Blackpool is a spooky place.

Read about this one time. It is said there is one from the tower to Raikes Parade.

There’s an extensive tunnel network under Fleetwood, for I expect less nefarious purposes, typically transporting cattle.
The entrances are
1) at the rear of the mount, bricked up - left side of Gate Lodge on Mount Rd, opposite London St.
2) underneath the Euston Hotel, in what I believe is now a gym - also bricked up.
3) in a raised bank? somewhere towards Rossall school.
Someone I know who’s been in the tunnels said there’s holding pens down there and it’s vast. Easy to get lost.

I was also told of a tunnel under Bourne Hill, nr ICI, where the old farmhouse used to sit - now demolished and next to a mini roundabout and pub.
I thought it was Roman origin, because it went in the direction on the old Roman road and port at Rossall Point, but now I wonder if it was actually part of the cattle tunnel network. It would make more sense.

In the 1980s I worked at both Blackpool tower & Blackpool winter gardens for a number of years as operations manager and there is no tunnel linking both venues. They both have vast cellar networks under the buildings but there is no direct link between them.

There’s a lot of ‘underground’ history in Blackpool, a lot of it forgotten about.
Plenty will remember the underground toilets at Talbot Sq, but there was also something outside where Popeyes stands. I’ve never managed to find out what, I’m guessing more toilets, but on some photos of the old Hippodrome you can see the protective railings and stairs going down. I’d be interested if anyone knows more.
When the council drilled test holes on the car park by the Hop a few years back for the proposed Hotel, the story going round was that they’d cancelled the idea on discovering an unexpected cavity below the surface, with no idea what it was. But they’re building on it now, so not sure if that was true.
Also, supposedly, a lot of hotel cellars along the prom were ‘mouse holed’ during WW2 to aid defence against invasion.
I’ve never heard of purpose built tunnels though.

Interesting, always interested in local history and I am sure that there will be a tunnel network of some sort, Blackpool grew in size and importance during the Victorian & Edwardian times when ‘secret tunnels’ would have been common place town planning by the authorities of the time. I think Blackpool of that era would have been strategically important at a government level and a tunnel network is very plausible. However, The authors speculation about Illuminati and human sacrifice are a thing of fantasy

I think the car park you are referring to next to the Hop Inn is where St.John’s market stood which was very old and I’m led to believe that there were massive cellars under the market.

There used to be underground toilets where Popeyes is.

I know that the one under Fleetwood had a telecoms network that was maintained until at least the late 80's.

During the first and second world wars a lot of government offices were moved out of London and Blackpool (being then one of the largest and most North Westerly major towns / cities with the best rail, air and sea links) was identified as a potential sight for any temporary government. There are tunnels and bunkers in the town centre for this very purpose.

"While entrance points at the town hall are designed to give local government freemasons access to the tunnel network, the Winter Garden entrance has allowed senior Illuminti Satanists and paedophiles such as Leon Brittan and Edward Heath to access the complex during the conference season."

Brilliant 😁

That’s not true. Can you imagine what the drop would be! Why would anyone want to go from the Tower to Raikes Parade?
I tend to agree it’s just what I read. Interesting though. I would like to learn more about these tunnels
