Opposition Report: Bolton Wanderers
A Brief Look At The Trotters

Large

Bolton Wanderers visit Bloomfield Road tomorrow evening in Sky Bet League One.
The Trotters are rooted at the bottom of the table coming into the match, thanks to their points deduction at the start of the season due to financial problems at the football club.
Bolton are 20 points adrift of safety, picking up just five wins all season, the last coming at the start of February in a 2-0 home win over fellow relegation candidates Tranmere Rovers. They have lost their last four matches since that win.

Despite their position in the league table, performances have improved since the appointment of Keith Hill in September 2019. Before the 50-year-olds arrival, Bolton had picked up just one point from their opening five matches and conceded a whopping 22 goals, which included three consecutive 5-0 defeats against Tranmere Rovers, Ipswich Town and Gillingham.
The points were shared between these two sides earlier on in the season, with the Seasiders taking a single point from the University of Bolton Stadium in a 0-0 draw, which was live on Sky Sports.
Last Three Results:
  • 22/2/20 – MK Dons 1-0 Bolton Wanderers
  • 15/2/20 – Bolton Wanderers 0-2 Wycombe Wanderers
  • 11/2/20 – Doncaster Rovers 2-1 Bolton Wanderers
The Manager: Keith Hill
Keith Hill was appointed manager of his hometown Club Bolton Wanderers in August 2019. The 50-year-old has nearly 15 years experience of management, having managed both Rochdale and Barnsley before joining the Trotters.
Hill’s success as manager comes from his two spells at Rochdale, where he has guided the Club to promotion to League One twice in 2010 and 2014, respectively.
Hill joined Bolton last summer following the Club’s relegation to League One. Despite starting the season on -12 points, the Club have given themselves faint hopes of league survival with victories over the likes of Fleetwood Town, Tranmere Rovers and Southend United in recent weeks.

The Star Man: Joe Dodoo
Ex-Seasider Joe Dodoo has been key to Bolton’s plans this season. He joined the Trotters in October 2019 following a spell at Rangers in Scotland. Since his arrival at the University of Bolton Stadium, Dodoo has four goals and three assists to his name. Only Darryl Murphy has scored more goals for Bolton than Dodoo this season.
The 24-year-old enjoyed a successful loan spell at Bloomfield Road last season, making close to 20 league appearances for the Seasiders, and scoring a couple of goals.

I have no expectation of a Pool win. I reckon 1-1 or 0-0. This season is littered with pre-match “comfortable win” comments, few if any have materialised.

Can’t say I’m excited about it what with this sodding weather & the lack of home games this year. The performances don’t help but I can live with that. 1-0 or another draw hope I’m pleasantly wrong & we batter them.

3-0 to the tangerine bastards. Gary Madine hat trick. Bloomfield Road rocking. Heard it here first

They've only got 1 point from their last 8 away games. But 4 of the defeats (including Cov & P'boro) have only been by a single goal.
So anything less than a win would be disappointing. But any win will do, especially given our striker problems.

Bolton haven't won at Bloomfield Road since 1977 - 43 years ago.

It would ironic if this ramshackle Bolton team ended that run....

Sound like it will be fun

that's just league, who could forget the northern final of the LDV. Remember being gutted at not getting to Wembley thinking it was our only chance.

I'm going for a draw.

Wanderers will play without fear as they are doomed to the bottom division next year. For the first time in 30 years 😁

Pool will have to improve on Saturdays dozy efforts if they want owt out the game.

I think it's all down to the first half. Score early (and by that I mean the first 30 mins) and I just don't think Bolton will fancy it - if they get an early goal, then they might just fancy a scalp in front of a decent away following?

Hmmm, don't think I'd play Thornily/Spearing or Nuttall, we played ok Saturday so keep same team apart from Edwards for either Turton or Husband, both would be unlucky if they did get left out

Gutted I can't make this one. I'm feeling quite positive after Wimbledon tbh. I thought we played well and just lacked that bit of compusure up top and I think less wind, the better pitch and the Bloomfield Road atmosphere will give us a big boost tonight. 4-1 to the pool. Delfounso x 2, Madine x 1, Virtue x 1 and Dodoo x 1.

Also...Am I alone in thinking Delfounso's miss at Wimbledon was because he had his heels clipped (albeit lightly)?

I have been saying for some time we are well overdue a decent win, however I am beginning to lose faith in this squad so sorry 0-0 at best.

It did look that way

I watched the game at Bolton when they were in deep doodoos and we were so unambitious it was unreal, we seemed happy to draw 0-0 an early confirmation of what a poor choice Grayson was.

It`s hard to know what will happen tonight, pure guesswork.I just hope it`s better than last time.

I'd have liked to have seen Nuttall given a chance, other than that, no issues.
Turton is the best available to play right hand side of a back 3.
