Blackpool v Burnley Official Matchnight Thread 27.07.21

He’s 19 ffs. One of Burnley’s central defenders is a capped England international.
Our young players may well read the comments on AVFTT and they deserve to be supported by BFC supporters and not criticised based on one game against an experienced PL side. We all await the proud day when our home grown kids break into the first team and they need every encouragement to develop.

Pretty happy with that performance especially considering how many of our first teamers were missing. 👍👍👍

Looked like a big Ellis Simms-sized gap in that team between 30-50 mins when they were attacking. Approach play was there like last season but trying to fit that extra pass in always causes more panic than composure on the finish.

Mitch Clark did his defensive work well.

Was alright for a friendly but Colin Greenall makes every game sound better. They should play him over the tannoy.

Dingles "You're going down with the bastards (Rovers)"
Our lot "You're going down on your sister"

I've missed hearing crowds

There was no disgrace in losing to Burnley tonight, when you consider we have just been promoted to the division below them, and they are an established Premier team. I enjoyed the game, plenty of things to be happy about and some things need tidying up, but, that's what friendlies are for. I agree with ilson, MOM Trialist. a very handy right back. we'll come a cross a lot of teams worse than Burnley in the Championship. Just a quick mention for Trusty again, who looks very comfortable on the ball. Come on you Pool.

A very decent run out that. Sarkic looks proper fit, sharp and switched on. Liked Tayt Trusty.
A very decent friendly to watch and nice to have a look at lots of young keen players.
Lot of first teamers in there for Burnley, same on the bench too, overall, lot of positives there. Nice shape, some good passing and some senior players to come in too.
Maybe not so far off as some have been thinking. Hopefully all ready for a steadier start than last season and see where it takes us

I would say the big gap is Kenny & Kev in midfield.
We look decent at the back and our front options will cause teams issues.

It’s the control that Stewart gives and Kennys pure energy and pressing that we miss.
Ward is quality but I’d want him in there with either K or K or even as a 3 with both of them.

I think Ward and Husband where the pick of our players.....Clarke was ok defensively but couldnt pick a pass going forward....Cant see Connolly starting many games for us...The youth players need to realise they are playing for a championship club and when given a chance need to be busting a gut and I dont see that.
Trusty seems very compossed on the ball.
Still it was a entertaing game.

Very enjoyable game that with loads of positives that leave me optimistic for the new season. The result is of no real concern but some of the individual performances were encouraging. Mitch Clark the RB trialist looked very good - get him signed up and tell Forest to lower their valuation of Gabriel to something more realistic.
I think the obvious area we need to strengthen is up front - not seen enough of Lavery yet & Bange/Ho;mes need some careful management before they are ready - but both look to be fantastic prospects.
I am so looking forward to the new campaign now.

I think that was a keenly fought friendly from both sides and we didn't let ourselves down at all. We were missing 8 players tonight and as we all know we are going to get another 3 or 4 that will be players who will go straight into the team.

Standouts for me, Maxwell, Husband, Garbutt, I thought Keogh looked assured and partnered well with Husband. Cook, the trials had an excellent game and can see him being offered a contract, even if it is as back up right back. CJ was quick and his crossing excellent, I thought Carey looked really assured and full of flair and creativity and is one to watch this season. Yates should have had a brace but he was excellent, making things happen, he is like buying a 10 million pound striker getting him to sign a new contract, he just needs Simms or Madine up alongside him.

When the subs came on I thought Trusty & Antwi looked like they belonged there and are exciting prospects. I also thought Bange put himself about really well and will be a real handful, a proper old fashioned centre forward. Sarkic looks like a different player to last season, he looks fit and full of running, could he be a surprise package this year?

Husband was MOM for me, he is going to be on the team sheet every week. We certainly missed Dougall & Stewart and we are absolutely fine for defensive midfielders, we have several.

Another striker, I would still hope it will be Simms, a creative midfielder, a right back and we won't be far off.

Agree with all of that
As I said earlier we are not too far off under the radar surprise package and going to bookies, tomorrow

It was a very encouraging performance that, for me. With KD back into the midfield and a striker up alongside Yates we would have looked pretty sorted tonight. First half hour had a lot to do with the makeshift midfield that hasn't played together, Ward, Connolly and Carey.

What did you think of Carey Voy, he looks an exciting prospect to me. You could tell that we need Simms back as that is a frightening partnership with Yates. I would go as far to say that Gabriel, Embo signed as our players and Simms on loan would do it.
