Blackpool v Gillingham Official Matchday Thread 05.04.21

As soon as the match day thread starts so do my nerves. Not sure how I'll be feeling in 24 hours time 😬

COOOOMMMEEEEE OOOOONNNNN YOOOUUUUU POOOOoooOOOOOOLLLLLLL.

Strong North West wind forecast tomorrow.
Hope Pool win the toss to decide which half will they fancy to their advantage.

1-0 Pool

Still dreaming of that 25 yard free kick sailing in the net!

1-1. And I’d take it now. Good team Gillingham and in good form. Keep winning away and drawing at home and we go up. Simple as that

Hopefully we'll start a little brighter tomorrow in light of Gillingham's apparent intention to go
"gung ho". Don't want to be chasing the game

I was leaning towards a draw but I think we might just get a more favourable result. UTMP!

Massive game for us. Even bigger for the Gills. They have one tough April. If they lose to us, they would have just six games left including away trips to Oxford and Peterborough. They'd be pushed to get more than 70 points.

Apparently police have been in attendance at a local hotel. After complaints from customers who were kept waiting for their breakfast. On further investigation it turned out that the Gillingham team we’re staying there & two things contributed to the hours delay. Firstly their manager cleaned everything out, then having restocked the players took an inordinate amount of time getting theirs. A spokesman for the hotel apologised & pointed out they were just practicing their time wasting tactics, the police are still taking statements from the team, but it’s slow going.

Hope it’s not unlucky 13 for us. Gills looking at this as their biggest of her season.
Seems to me he is using the old psychology card on this one.
I'm predicting they will park the bus, Iceland V England style; get the players to work very hard and try and nick a goal if any lack of concentration comes in from us.
0-0 looks likely today unless the class we ooze can come through.
An early goal could be vital today.

The form tables show both teams close to each other. However, I think pool can shade it. 2 -1 to pool and don’t let them score first.

Come on the pool...Hope they come out like they did against Peterborough all guns blazing....This would be a massive win and highly unlikely that Gillingham would pass us for a play off spot...An early goal would be nice as it 17 games when we have scored first and not lost...on the flip side its 20 games since we have come from behind to win a game.Should be a tight game.

I haven’t got a clue how this one will finish, I hope it’s in our favour, I do wish I could rid myself of this pre-match anxiety though.

This will be a very tough fixture due to Gillingham's style of football, our stretched squad and the importance for both teams. Whilst we will try and impose our possession based game and try to get their players chasing shadows, they will be in our faces, trying to capitalise on strength and height advantages. Think Burton but with better players and even more sh!thouse gamesmanship.

Gills in great form (as are we), very good away record, and have already beaten us this season. I see today as a pretty good indicator of how much we've improved this season. One of those games that if we want to play our football and cause problems, we'll have to win the physical battle first. Interesting game. We will need a first class performance from Ballard, Gretarsson and Dougall - all three are capable of giving us that. None of those three were at the club when we played the away fixture. Hopefully they will fare better.

I hope that we pick an attacking line up and formation that has worked for us recently and let them worry about us. No changing our style to counteract their shïthouse tactics.

Thorniley/Ballard

Didn't expect that, maybe he needs a little more time in order to return after they've assessed him or something. Great to see Ballard, Gretarsson and Ekpiteta all in the match day squad though, two of 'em are on the bench but bodes well for the coming weeks.

Simms getting a well deserved place in the squad again after his strike on Friday, another goal like that please Ellis!

Looks like Critch is expecting an aerial bombardment we all expected then !! Ballard and Thorniley probably best placed to deal with that, likewise Turton over Gabriel too. Great to see Marv back on the bench along with Husband. It's a VERY strong bench that now.

Decided to spend ten of my hard earned pounds today. Not seen us win yet this season.
