Blackpool v Oxford United Official Matchday Thread 12.12.20

6 league games in the next 18 days. Could be a real make or break part of the season. Next 4 in particular, but every game is likely to be pretty tight. This is where our strong squad should stand us in good stead but it doesn't guarantee anything and we need to click up front. My feeling is that Garbutt will give us a new weapon, he's starting to hit his stride, I hope we can capitalise on it.

Oxford H
Hull H
Accy A
Sunderland A
Rochdale H
Shrewsbury A

voy, think you're right there. These next 5/6 games will have a terrific effect on our season. One way or the other.

Here’s our opposition report to get an idea of what we’re up against tomorrow

It feels like a 0-0, 1-1 or 1-0 either way affair this. Looking at both teams recent results and struggles with scoring.

Cue a 5-4 mayhem encounter...

They play good football, like us, and don't score many goals, like us.

It'll be exciting end-to-end stuff and in the 91st minute Big Marv will head in the winner from a corner taken by Garbutt. Could be 93rd minute - not sure yet.

I agree with the first paragraph and also think it could well be exciting end to end stuff. But that could also result in a goal fest!!

Scrafter's tweet,
"Pictures probably don’t do it justice, but the grass on the pitch is looking noticeably longer today."
Obviously the Manager tells the (new) groundsman how the grass should be cut.
Suggests to me we will be trying to disrupt Oxford's passing game today and probably go long ourselves.

You'd imagine Woodburn must be showing something in training to be starting ahead of Yates.
I did wonder why Woodburn wasn't involved on Tuesday, now I know why.
I hope he does well, he needs a decent run in the team to perform like he did last season for Oxford.

The thing is whilst we are performing well and winning you have to say the management team has been getting it right...if we start a losing run (which hopefully wont happen) then questions will be asked of all these changes and tinkering

Woodburn was "cup-tied" on Tuesday, that's why.

If we're getting results when the team is being tinkered with from one week to next, it would be hard to argue that if we had a down turn in form the line ups changes would be the cause.

I think you have to look at both rotation to keep players fresh and also because the coaches and analysts have worked out who they think are the best players to play the system they want against Oxford. Will it be Woodburn or Kaikai playing off Madine I wonder? Some good players on the bench too to scare the beekeepers out of them. I would guess Robson has a knock as he would surely of been on the bench?

I agree that given the schedule there is a need to rest players but Woodburn has shown nothing so far.
