Blackpool v Shrewsbury Town Official Matchday Thread 24.04.21

Shrewsbury have lost three in a row, but I'd be expecting a reaction from them as they won't want to be dragged down into the relegation places (even though it is unlikely).

They (like Rochdale) play a 3-5-2 so we could be overrun in the midfield.

I'd line up similar to how we did against Peterborough with a 4-5-1 (or 4-2-3-1 depending on who you ask).

Maxwell, Gabriel, Ballard, Thorniley, Garbutt, Dougall, Ward, Embleton, Mitchell, Kaikai, Yates.

That was one of our best performances of the season and I think we should go back to that formation when playing teams who play stack the middle of the pitch with midfielders.

Such an important game. I know that's stating the obvious, but I do think some are overestimating how many points will be required for a top six place. Win this and we very much have one foot in the door. Big effort required from the players to bounce back from Tuesday, and I think this game will tell us a lot about the state of play. There's no question about our determination - we've just been on a 16 game unbeaten run. But do we have the mental strength to shake off a defeat? Do we have the legs to keep playing twice a week for months with little change to the starting lineup? One final big push required, because I reckon if we make the playoffs we'll get stronger with the return of Keshi, Stewart and Madine. Tantalisingly close, and I really think these lads deserve it.

I need a win tomorrow just to settle the bloody nerves.

I think we'll be revitalised by the loss, a rocket up the arse and we come out like men possessed. A solid win, not going to attempt the scoreline!

A rocket up the arse isn’t in Critchley’s armoury. He, according to his post match review, thinks we dominated Rochdale.🤔

We will win tomorrow, no problem. Theses players are determined and will want to put the disappointment of Tuesday behind them.

We dominated possession to be fair but just did nowt with it 😂

We'll be like men possessed tomorrow, Critch and Calderwood will have worked their good cop/bad cop routine on 'em and Shrews are in for a pasting 😉

They’ll be hurting after Tuesday, at least I’d expect they will, so I expect them to fight to the death for the shirt as we’ve seen them do recently. Only problem is if they’re knackered and run out of steam.

As others have said, the last thing we want is for the midfield to be overrun which will drain the players, so possession will probably be NC’s message, let them do the running.

As always, a win is vital to steady the nerves and keep us firmly in the playoffs.

I’d prefer a comfortable win, with early goals to give us a cushion.

An early goal for us would be great, ease the pressure and control the game.

Scrappy 1- 0 to the Mighty

Just think we are running out of gas, the number of minutes some of these guys have played is crackers, Critch was saying a few weeks ago, two matches a week does not allow coaching time.

We could really do with some fresh legs back

Confident of 2 things today.

1 - A good win and performance after a minor blip on Tuesday.

2 - The negative comments on here if it’s still 0-0 after 7 minutes.

2-0.

Wonder if this is the game that Ekpiteta returns? He could do with a run out before more crucial games.

The lad at my local Albert Heijn came over to tell me I didn’t scan my beers properly. He then accidentally took them off my receipt altogether and I went from a half price deal to accidentally getting 12 free Heinekens. The Heinekens are bright tangerine as King’s Day is coming up.

It’s destiny.

I’m rubbish this predictions thing, so confidently going for a shocking 0 - 0 performance that will cause uproar on here for days, doom gloom and all sorts of premonitions of failure - It being the Blackpool way, never easy!

I’d rather have seen 4-5-1, Simms and Yates must be knackered by now.
Critch knows better than me though.

I think, in Critchley's mind, he's the only guy who can come on as a sub and get us a goal.

One day, he might realise that heMitchell will cause more mayhem, and score more goals, if he actually starts the game.
I agree with that 100%.

I’d prefer we take the initiative from the start. The result at Rochdale didn’t bother me, but the performance did. Embleton was utterly ineffective in that wide position.

So few it's difficult to tell. I suppose. He's improving but I wouldn't drop anyone for him. An understanding has developed since Embo settled in.
I feel Mitchell and Gabriel are a huge threat on the right. Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m not sure what Embleton has invested in our future.
