Blackpool v West Brom Official Matchnight Thread 23.11.21

excellent game of football, both sides. West brom are better than i thought they were going to be, i think a fairly balanced game, we probably rode our luck a couple of times but their keeper made one hell of a double save in the first half and there were a couple of other clear cut chances for us, west broms finishing probably let them down, but husband and Marv were just epic. keshi was immense. dougal and wintle both had fantastic games. James did everything you would expect of a full back.

Maybe Madine and Lavery and Madine didnt really work but neither were given any protection from the ref, and lavery was getting kicked, elbowed trodden on and whatever else by their centre halves. Keshi the same, and the ref had the audacity to book keshi for simulation when he was quite clearly tripped.

THe EFL not content with finding shit refs in england have gone all the way to australia to find this twonk.

A very hard earned point, some players may not have been at their best but what can't be doubted is their effort and determination to take something from the game. We never stopped running and created some great chances but overall I'm delighted with the draw.

We did well to get a point there, against a strong side that fluffed it's better chances. Husband, Marv, James, Dougall, Wintle and Keshi all superb. Gabriel ok. Lavery ok but rusty. Bowler, Madine, CJ and Dale pretty ineffective. Two players short of an XI for me. Hence we are put on the back foot against these better sides, need improvement in those two positions. In my opinion of course.

** hell. How has CJ not scored there. You can't miss that in at this level.
I think you can after most of the season out. Match fitness and it would have been in. You don't cut much slack do you Kurt? Mind you you ve posted positive stuff tonight too. Quite rightly. A well earnt point against a multi million pound team. Great point

great second half performance. Not to say we were poor first half but really noticeable from the second half start how we had took it up a notch.Stand outs James Husband motm top class goal saving blocks at least twice.Reece James again impressed me I thought he was excellent on Saturday aswell and obviously Big Marvin.

I thought we would get beat tonight.

5 yards out? He's never been the most composed. I don't rate him but he needs to find his finishing from the start of last season.

Classic ref comment there. Elicited a chuckle

Great rearguard display. Looked at table and we've gone up a place. Nobbers only 3 points behind us now. How did that happen?
Yet they want to boycott, absolute bunch of pathetic wankers, when they win some lose some.

The only reason I see is because we beat them and are ahead of them in the table.

Thats it, spoilt brats.

But some want to call our boycott out 😂 we don't boycott when we lose a game in the championship.

Well twitter is full of praise for Reece James with some calling him the best in the world. 😆😆 Shame he'll never get the song "One Reece James, there's only one Reece James"

Oh they'll be all smiles tonight. Everyone who was never going "on" again after Saturday, boycotting etc, will be kissing Ridsdale's and Frankie's feet tonight. The 2nd and 3rd coming of Christ respectively!!!
Fickle bunch of doomers

You mean there's more? Sign em up 🤣

There's been a few dodgy kicks from Grimshaw creeping in recently, think there was 2 in this game that put in trouble.
And far more really good saves, catches and kick outs. What is your negative point exactly? He's still a young, very inexperienced but very good goalkeeper playing against one of the biggest and best attacks in the Championship and he totally helped us earn our point.
Now why didn't you post something positive like that? You'd have felt so much better if you had. I did 😁

What a tensely enjoyable hand of football that was.

We are well in this league with players who are perfectly capable of going toe to toe with the best of them.

Take each game as it comes and all that, but it augurs well for the rest of the season.

Oh and please can we sign Wintle.

I take it your heads been buried in the sand over the last few weeks? I've been saying for ages he shouldn't just lose his place to Maxwell and has been very good.

Just pointing out a few dodgy moments he had this game that put us in the shit.

One right near the end that luckily came to nothing but had them charging at our goal.

He's done well but needs more composure there as you can't give it away like that.

great game of football and a draw was a fair result. We had two or three great chances though and for me Keshi should have been that fraction quicker to knock that rebound in, He had a very good game though. Husband and Marv were fantastic. All their threat in first half came down Gabriels side where they were getting too many crosses in. Bowler overall had a shocker and Wintle twice in the second half gave the ball away in our box. Last fifteen minutes or so think many of our players were running on empty and we were very careless on the ball leading to making of so many errors. But we hung on and got a well deserved point which could have been three.

Two Reece James there’s only ....... would work.

Put us in the shit? Really? Ahh yes. When the Baggies didn't score any goals and didn't beat us. You do say some very odd things

thought the ref was very decent and had an easy game. Nothing of note happened which he needed to be involved in

They had some good chances but did we have the best? The Madine one then Keshi was so close, as was the other Madine one he hits their player but CJ is clean in and just has to connect on his turn.

Can't blame him much as he's rusty but ahh well, definitely take the point.

Anderson? Really? Not from the commentary I've heard. Very few off the mark tonight. Exceptional performance. Holding our own and playing good positive stuff. 100 % effort and that's the most you can ask for
Anderson man of the match for me although Husband and Marv were huge
Great point really

Gabriel vacates his position too often for me. He's a good prospect and is getting better all the time but some naivety still. Bowler was poor, yes.

You really do seem to pick at odd things. I've praised the effort and how tough a game it was and that a point is very good, but were not allowed to point out a few things to improve?

So when a keeper slices the ball and their attacker is running at us when it should have been way up the pitch, that's not putting us under real threat.... 🙄

from the north end of the west it wasn't easy to see if Gabriel was being overloaded with players because Bowler wasn't working hard enough to cover but they seemed a threat every time down that wing.

Thought he was probably the best ref I've seen this season. If you're expecting them to get everything right all the time, you're probably going to be disappointed.

Made a dozen or more truly bizarre decisions and was incredibly inconsistent. Keshi was consistently quicker than their CH and was tripped half a dozen times by the same player, I think he gave one free kick against him and that was when he booked him. The booking for keshi was outrageous, it should have been a red card for their defender.
If you are going to consistently penalise madine for backing in then you have to apply it at the other end as well but he didnt

didn't see it that way at all. Thought the ref was excellent.

Gabriel gives us more going forward but Sterling keeps us tighter, much better defender, for me. Gabriel just isn't there at times, the wide area is wide open. When I look for him he's usually near Grimshaw. Does he choose to avoid the difficult but necessary task of dealing with the wide player? I'm not sure he trusts himself. Or does Critch advise this course of action? Sterling marks the wide player and backs himself to win the challenges or hold the player up. But yes, he's exposed by Bowler. Critch may accept what he does as a consequence of Bowlers weakness defensively, and Gabriel's learning curve. Not sure though. I'd be playing Sterling behind Bowler. I'd probably drop Bowler tbh and use Gabriel or Mitchell there in front of Sterling. For now.

Take those tangerine tinted specs off, he had a decent game. Keshi had been lucky not to be booked before for diving.

Spot on 20’s, exactly the same at Sheffield United. Bowler is the definition of a luxury player at this high level, in a team that is built on hard work. He offers no cover and in the second half gave it away near our box, then made no effort to track their player. In the first half he bottled 2 challenges and ducked a header, because he was waiting for a challenge.

In contrast, even when he’s played poorly, CJ does make an effort to get back behind the ball, as does Mitchell. When Bowler plays it makes the game more challenging for Jordan.

On the other side the work rate of Keshi was fantastic, and Dale carried that on, for such a smalll lad.

when he plays behind bowler hes got more work to do, down the left today they were strong, but gaabrielle held his own i thought. it was a good batlle between them. With Mitchell in front of him hes got a bit more defensive cover when we are under the cosh. at Swansea Gabriel was epic today he was just very good. hes getting better and better as a player. The other thing about Gabriell that isnt always immediately noticable is just how good he is in the air.

I mostly agree but I don't think he's quite as good as you do. Some issues with his defending, and not that effective going forward. Good athlete, puts a shift in, stuff to learn.

really didnt see it that way, but hey ho each to their own
Put it this way, I'd have him every day of the week, over some of the shite I've seen at Bloomfield so far this season.
But as you say each to their own.
As for the match, Keshi, Husband and the Ekbeast, the pick of a great collective performance.
Not sure what Grimshaw could do about that giant bobble he got from the late back pass.
