Blackpool's dance fever

Should be worth watching. Few in Blackpool appreciate how BIG this event is worldwide. So big in fact that the Chinese set up their own Blackpool dance festival. Oh and my daughter was part of the latin formation team that won the event at the Empress Ballroom, so I might be a little biased.

Just watched it, interesting. Note how they briefly mentioned the boycott. Caused by Blackpool refusing to allow another competition to use a title that Blackpool use. By all accounts it shouldn't be a big deal to the Pool. Poor response. I also think if we're supposed to be a big competition, at least we could have French and Spanish announcers alongside the English. Then again, Blackpool is nothing if not parochial.

Dont know how many come now but it was second to the pigeon festival, would imagine its no1 weekend in Blackpool. Not the biggest of spenders but the hoteliers must rake it in along with the airbs.

It wasn’t until I started driving a cab that I realised how big these dance competitions were.
As well as the dancers coming from all over the world, there are thousands of spectators from all over the globe, make-up artists and hairdressers come over to set up shop, and all of them rave about coming here.
I once asked a Russian dancer why they had the competition here, when they could choose Vegas, Paris, Rome etc, and she said that every pro ballroom dancer in the world grows up dreaming of dancing in Blackpool.
We should be very proud of the Winter Gardens and the Tower, they’re gems
