Blackpool's injury crisis.

A few quotes from Scrafters.
"Gary Madine is still not right, either. He's been forced to step back and rest a little bit."
"It's bad news from Kevin Stewart's scan, I'm afraid. Neil Critchley says he's likely to be out for a "number of weeks". CJ Hamilton still doesn't feel quite right with his foot injury either."
"Marvin Ekpiteta and Daniel Gretarsson making good progress though."

If we still had Oyston in charge the Madine injury would be starting to look like it was more about being kept to within a certain amount of minutes played to avoid contract triggers before the end of the season.
That had crossed my mind.....but I’m sure we’re a different club now.

There’s no way that any of the players are pretending to be injured. Madine, for example at his age needs to be playing games and doing well to get his next contract, wherever that might be. I’d be more concerned about the quality of the rehabilitation and treatment they are receiving. Also whilst we are playing twice week, the work that’s done between games to prevent injury would in my view also need to be questioned.

Going to have to play well on Saturday to get anything.

Ekpiteta, Grettarson, CJ, Virtue, Stewart, Madine - all players at some point this season with long term injuries. I’ve never known anything like it in 31 years of following Blackpool. Ridiculously unlucky with LONG TERM KEY INJURIES.

Is it down to the schedule cos of the pandemic or something to do with our training/physio team?

Anderson aswell

I’m beginning to also think there’s more to it with Madine that we’re not being told. Spose to be a little niggle in the groin area. Surely doesn’t take this long to recover as he’d been playing 90 minutes with the niggle. So not to see him after so long just doesn’t sit right with me
Groin injuries can be very difficult to get right, my lad took 2 months and another of the squad has been out for over 6 months, under the guidance of the physio. If Madine just carries on playing, he could do irreparable damage that impacts his career. I don‘t think there is anymore to it than the injury.

Madine's injury problem started at the closure of the transfer window, maybe it just a coincidence or maybe not. But just watched the press
conference for the Oxford match and for me Critchley seems quite stressed. With Ballard soon to go on international duty, two or three bad results now, and it will probably be season over for us.

Gents, you’re not going to believe this, but sometimes injuries look like they will clear up in a few weeks and can be prolonged by unforeseen complications. I know, it sounds far-fetched, but apparently it does happen!
To EVERYONE who has had an injury at Blackpool this season!!!

No, just the ones that didn’t come back on their expected date, as in there doesn’t have to be a conspiracy around pretending or refusing etc.

Klopp’s Liverpool have basically proven that the theory high intensity training and massively increased running distances can lead to a complete breakdown of a whole squad at a similar time. Definitely that could be the case with us as it as I agree it is uncanny. The only thing I question is, are we really doing a lot more intense training than in the past? We’ve not really ended up taking many pages out of the Klopp book at all, so I don’t think it is a matter of training.

Stewart feels like a miss as they were using him as a midfield spoiler. Which to me seems the more effective tactic in away games where they set up to stop the opponent first. Feels like a slightly different control when Dougall plays, like he's got a three foul allowance before a yellow card. But he's had his rest now and he was the main man before KS signed.

Will be tough either way if Oxford if are starting to build momentum again and if they score first.
Absolutely mate

Missed out Keshi

Missed out Keshi
It sounds like he arrived at the club with an underlying issue that's flared up and he's decided an op and an early finish is best so that we get to see him again before the end of his contract.

----
“It’s not easy (cutting the squad) when you’ve had the injury list we’ve suffered from. It’s becoming a weekly occurrence – especially Keshi,” said Wellens.

“Every time we scan his hamstring, he’s fine. But it’s easy to see from his reaction when he took the ball down that he felt his hamstring.

“It’s got to a stage now where we need to get to the bottom of it. Keshi is a big player for us, and we can’t keep it like this.

That can't be right Alf, just look at the physio expertise displayed on this thread all saying it must be more than an injury not clearing up. No, its a plot by Putin or Preston to undermine the very fabric of our club, its can't be anything else can it?

When you put it that way, it’s hard to disagree!

You also have to factor in last season ending early and the impact on normal training and then pre-season. These are professional athletes and their routine was lost. I’ll guarantee there are plenty of normal people, non-professionals, who have stiffened up during this pandemic, due to a change in exercise routine.

I don't think there's anything suspicious about Madine's injury, just bad luck. CJ was bought back too quickly, it was obvious because he was way off he pace when he stared and should have had a few games on the bench. Stewart\s injury was because of a truly awful foul by the Fleetwood scumbag who got away with it scot free. Good news about Marvin and Grets though and we have enough to put out a good team tomorrow.

I am no medical expert, but Marine's injury looks like it needs either a prolonged rest of surgery to cure it. I don''t think we will see too much more of him this season!

Are we the only club with injury concerns?
I'm as frustrated as anyone about enforced absences, but Oxford have had several out and continued to move up the table.
Read their forum.
They've lost a couple in the last five games, but still picked up more points than us.
Building a squad strong strong in depth and working hard on the field to impress when given a chance seem to be the keys to success.

To have seven players missing from a first team match day squad Is a big ask for the ones to pick up the pieces. I think Blackpool have done excellent this season (apart from the first 6 or 7) with what they’ve had to do with long term injuries and seven out with covid.
missing
Madine
Keshi
Gretarrsson
C J Hamilton
Ekpiteta
Stewart
Plus a few others. We’ve had more than our fair share of problems this season.
