Booing the knee on Friday

I've just seen a bit of discussion about this on Facebook and now this tweet. I can't believe it's even being discussed really!

Even if you are vehemently against players taking the knee you should be able to bite your tongue, why on earth would you want to potentially offend any of our Black players (who I'm sure hold these issues close to their heart) when they have helped get us into this position and are about to take part in our BIGGEST game of the season.

I understand it is a divisive issue, but hopefully sense prevails in this instance. There should be absolutely ZERO negativity when those players are gearing up for kick off, everyone should be 100% behind them, supporting them in full voice.

Absolutely, mate. I was amazed to hear it.
You’d think after the long absence of fans, those lucky enough to be there would be on cloud 9, whatever their view on taking the knee.

Sorry....what part of being racially abused is political?
When you go to Bloomfield Road, do you ask everyone sitting around you how they voted....?
You looking for a stand without anybody who's voted Liberal Democrat in the last 10 years...

There was a similar thread last week about not doing anything stupid at the Bristol Rovers game.

Sadly, such messages are very neccessary and idiots like Dollar Thief just serve to underline the point

They can take a shite on the centre spot as far as I'm concerned. So long as they play for the shirt and give it 100% i couldn't care less
I was thinking similar, Jerry Yates could take a mic out on the pitch and personally hurl abuse at me whilst tarnishing my family name and I'd still be hoping he scores a hat trick.

I'm there to watch the football, I'm not there for political reasons.
Racism existing is political. Players being racially abused, as one of our own has, is political. Just because you don’t like the ‘solution’ (not that it is a solution) does not mean that there wasn’t any politics before.

I have said this in another thread so sorry for repeating. But if you are a gay footballer and don’t feel you can be yourself, that’s politics stopping you. If you are a working class fan being priced out of the game that’s also politics stopping you.

Wearing rainbow laces or protesting ticket prices are political actions and maybe you also want those things out of football. But by stopping that, you aren’t taking politics out, are you? You’re just taking away the voices of those who want change and helping uphold the status quo

BLM might be but many black players feel marginalised, and have been brought up in some cases in neighbourhoods where discrimination was rife.

Look at the player and not the supposed politically motivated group.
Taking a knee and raising a fist has been a symbol of black liberation and protest for decades. Long before BLM existed.

I hope players take the knee for the foreseeable future. Last summer I was watching a group of white 8-9 year olds setting up to play on the beach. Before they started they got one of their dads to take a pic of them taking the knee. Clearly copying their heroes and hopefully hearing the anti racist message. For that reason alone the players should keep doing it.
For those saying it's Marxist. Did you think of that all on your own?

Apparently everything outside of a particularly narrow world view is Marxist.

👏👏👏

Brilliant post.

Well I certainly won’t boo...if the players want to do it then let them...seems the vast majority are still in favour of doing so.

Why on earth should we worry about offending others just because we have a difference of opinion when those others have no qualms about doing likewise? Would I boo if I was there, no, but I would certainly turn my back on it. It's just become a minor irritation now, especially when the bloody commentators feel they have to explain what it's about every friggin' time.

So you're not behind kicking out racism in football......or just not happy with players showing their support for those being racially abused on social media and at the ground...BECAUSE......?
Please explain why you think somebody is not behind kicking racism out of anywhere just because they disagree with the knee. We're going round in circles with this thing, aren't we?

So, the first thing some people want to do when getting in to the stadium for the first time in 14 months is to show the players we don't support them? Why would anyone want to do that?
It's 100% up to the players what causes they support.
You're talking a load of cobblers!

You'd prefer fans to boo our own players at the start of a play off match? That should help them. I'm sure they'd be delighted.
I couldn't care less whether they take a knee, just as much as I couldn't care less if people disagree with it. I do care that the players feel the fans are behind them in an extremely important match.

No, I wouldn't prefer them to boo but if that's how they feel, so be it, why should they show any more tolerance for the knee than you do for them showing their disapproval by trying to have them kicked out of the ground? But I would rather see them ignore it in one way or another and then get behind the team.

' it isn't achieving anything now '. Why are we still discussing it then ?
We’re discussing it because the thread is about booing the practice. That’s certainly not achieving anything, in fact it’s the reverse. So, yes not only is it not achieving anything imo, it’s possibly having a negative effect.
