Brian Cox thinks we might be a Hologram.

I mentioned this on another thread yesterday, after I heard Professor Brian Cox on the radio saying that modern scientific studies are leaning towards thinking we might all be a hologram.

I thought I must have misheard him, until I heard him say it again on ITV this morning!

This is a fascinating school of thought coming from our most prominent, living scientist.

What's he been smoking this time.

I suppose what it boils down to is:

1. The Universe is big.
2. Homo Sapiens think they are the dogs bollocks.
3. But really they are a bit limited. And only have five senses.
4. And haven’t been around that long in terms of the age of just this planet; never mind the Universe. Dinosaurs were around a lot longer.
5. And Homo Sapiens are working hard to replace themselves with Homo Deus.
6. But yes. It might also be a dream. Or a Hologram.
7. But so long as we’re warm, and have enough grub.....we’ll still grumble.

He doesn't necessarily share the view. He's simply explaining that it's a theory that has been posted. It's not even a new theory either. It's an offshoot of the philosophical argument that we may just be a brain in a vat or a computer simulation etc etc.

That’s all well and good. But if the “person” in charge of the vat or the computer has a choice why do they choose “unhappy” as an option?

And don’t give me any nonsense about freewill. If I had freewill I wouldn’t be in a vat or a computer program.

Seems to me there’s not a lot of difference between theology and advanced physics. All a lot of theory.

Pass the spliff mannnnn.

Dave from the 'Stute says these ideological theorists dont drink enough alcohol , and I personally think his theory holds more water-or Guinness actually.

We put this to the test and the Tangobears were first to come forward-in fact they're working on it right now.

Don't get me started on Free Will and Determinism. I taught it for years. More mind bending than your average acid tab.

Hawking said that anything entering a black hole is lost forever. He had to change his mind and accept this was incorrect having considered the hologram theory.

This is best explained by an example of a book...in this reality on earth you can burn it and you’ll not ever be able to retrieve the information it held...yet the particles that contained that information (the physical book) still exist in an altered state as smoke and ashes particles. It’s just the info that is lost forever.

Imagine the same book burning on entering the event horizon of a black hole. The quantum physics of the infinitely dense black hole reverses the situation so that the particles enter the black hole but the information remains and is projected back into our reality as an infinite expanding universe.

mind boggling stuff but a workable theory!

Well I’m trying to decide between yoghurt or toast for breakfast. Am I wasting my time? Should I have both?
If I was you I’d use a random number generator to pick a house on your street and then ask the owner to pick another neighbour who you can ask to toss a coin ‘heads for toast - tails for yoghurt’ and then eat the opposite, whilst imagining you are actually eating the other.

Sounds like a plan 👍

I am quite peckish though so think I’ll opt for toast.....no yoghurt.

Oh I dunno.

Think I’ll skip breakfast.

To be honest as long as I can continue to get drunk and wank myself off over porn Hub once a day until I die I'm not really arsed if I'm living in a yeast vat or a hologram. What difference does it make in all honesty?

I'm not sure wanking until you die is doable, I've tried it a few times mind.
