My deal with BT is finishing shortly & they want to increase it by £9 per month, up to this week it has been a faultless service, however last couple of days Ive had a few blips, & loss of service.

I have been looking around & can get the same speed from many alternatives, for less than Im paying now, even Plusnet (who are BT).

When ever I check the companies on trustpilot trusted reviews, they all have awful reviews, in the 80 t0 85% 1 star. So no help there.

I tried Yayzi, who advertise at the club, & I am exactly 1 mile from there offices at the airport, they dont cover our area???

Any advice, suggestions?

PS I cant get Virgin.

It's a minefield & just as frustrating as what I've just done (car insurance) I'm with Virgin & that's going in December, well at least the TV part, I think I'll just buy a HD recorder for the Mrs to record her soaps on. Good luck searching & I hope you don't go cross eyed reading all the small print.

I'm with Plusnet, the connection is fine no problems to speak of but the customer service is erratic, some are excellent others don't seem to know what they are doing. Like all the others there has been an unexpected price rise after I signed the contract due to CPI ? rises.

If you can't get Virgin, your services will be provided by BT whoever you go with.

What may be different is the contention rates and the customer service.

Contention rate is to some degree as nearly as important as speed - the lower the better.

Blackpool seems to be getting erected these huge 6g home Internet poles everywhere not sure how that will effect price.

Spoke with a BT engineer friend of mine, & he confirmed these are some sort of fibre connection, but he's unsure how they do it? something Six telecom he thinks??

When mine came up for renewal a few months ago, (BT), I'd had several offers worse than what we were on. Strangely enough, as I started googling SKY, etc, all of a sudden BT sent a better offer, 135 Fibre at less than I was paying for 75 fast. Odd, that.

Pretty much all of the telecoms companies are doing this now. They have an annual increase written into the contract of X% + CPI.

They will often promote deals just before the rise is due to happen to tempt people in and then hit them with a rise.

Found that new company, 6G, they have a mast on Park Rd, some type of 100mb wi fi? Prices seem OK, but no coverage in Marton 🙄

Totally naive about this stuff (didn't know that 6g existed) but can't we just get them to pay top dollar and stick their stuff at the top of the Tower?

You're lucky, Virgin is frustrating. Can be great with 200mb speeds but has periods where it drops off to a snail pace!

It all depends on what speed you are looking for and who your moving from . I have been with BT and had no problems but I am probably going to take a punt on Shell Broadband via MSE using link below . Seems reasonable and only 12 month contract.
Shell bought out Post Office Broadband I think they use Talk Talk kit but might be wrong 🤷

Is there anywhere one can compare contention rate of providers by area?

Can't get Virgin here. Nothing quicker than 66mb through the landline. What happened to that super fast cable being layed under the tram tracks - or did I dream that?

Am guessing Yayzi & this 6G malarkey is benefiting from the big undersea cable, but roll out seems slow, & sporadic in area, sadly I need a new service now, so looks like plus net despite terrible trusted reviews...

Re: customer service and review scores.

As an industry, every company has the same issue. None of them have great customer service and the nature of openreach being separate to the front end providers and outside of their control is such that it is inevitable.

The majority of service issues are ones that can only be resolved by openreach, and they are a mental organisation to deal with, that the providers have no control or leverage over.

The nature of broadband as effectively a utility, is that people only post negatives. When your broadband is working, you don't notice it, you take it for granted. The second there is any problem, it is one that impacts you heavily.

Long story short, I wouldn't place too much stock in negative reviews in this sector, except where they relate to financial issues.

The 6G people have just rung, they need a pole within 1 Km, & transmit the signal to a small dish on your house, speeds promised seem good, but not sure Im prepared to take a leap into the unknown with this just yet..

They offered to put me on a traditional openreach line, until the 6G masts are erected locally, with a free switch over, but still not sure

Not Vodaphone , they have been useless from day 1 . Also if you manage to get assistance on the phone ,it is usually some Asian that is difficult to understand . We have also been lied too on a regular basis. They are the pits.

This is where these things are interesting and kind of futile.

Over my last few contracts my experiences have been:

BT: Average
EE: Very good
Vodaphone: Excellent
Plusnet: Shite

Strange seeing that comment about Plusnet, apart from the erratic customer service I have found the provision excellent. I live near Wolverhampton by the way, I have no idea what the performances are in other areas. I used to like BTPlusone but they went AWOL many years ago.

If you’re happy with the speed of your current provider, swap to EE , I believe it is the same as BT but cheaper !

Never had any issues with Virgin and I’m one of those lazy bastards who relies on it to work from home.

That was kind of my point. It seems so variable from person to person, postcode to postcode etc.

If you have had no problems with Vodaphone then you won't have had to chaise them up . If you do get a problem then GOOD LUCK.

Not true, TalkTalk connect about 900k homes now with their FTTP service. I have it at my house at 500Mb and it's turning out better and more resilient than the Virgin connection we also have.

The days of the Openreach monopoly are coming to an end.

That's not contention rate!

That’s a great deal 16 quid a month all in.Only 12 months and the cash back is automatically credited into your account.

I’d be going for this if I was coming to end of broadband deal

Went for Plusnet, as it is still BT, 66mb service again, as before, £25 a month, over £12 a month cheaper than BT offered, plus £75 card, & £54 cashback via quidco. I'll bin their router, as I have my own, same fibre to cabinet, new copper the 100yds I am from cab, should be all ok
😎🙄🙏

I'm not that clued up on this so could do with some advice. I am on virgin at the minute but am moving house in the next month. It's semi rural without high speed, the current owners use BT but I'm one of those lazy buggers who works from home. Any suggestions?? Is sky any good or would I be better off with BT.

I've just been on talk talk and at the address I'm moving to the speed will be about 14mb which is a lot slower than my virgin connection which is 290mb

The green boxes at the end of your street need replacing to cope with all the extra wiring that is needed to keep up with demand.

500mb……I assume that means everything is “instant“?

We have Superfast Sky Broadband via the new fibre cables they've just installed in the street. Miles better than BT and Virgin.
