Burnley losing Pope

Just wonder how well the Clarets will do this season. Bit of a hangover from last season, new unproven boss, lots of changes behind the scenes and a crowd who I reckon will expect to go straight back up. My money would be on them not even making the Play Offs tbh.

Reported on Twitter that they've bid £4mil for Scott Twine at MK Dons... think if they've got that money to splash about then they'll be okay...

I heard a clip of Kompany's interview on the radio and he came across very well (as did our MA). He declined to talk about promotion (as did MA), which shows he has common sense. If his defenders are half as good as he was, then they'll do well.

Would you rather have Kompany and Burnley's budget, or Appleton and our budget?

As a manager, Kompany has a couple of unremarkable years behind him in Belgium, whereas Appleton has vastly more experience, given the choice, and setting the names aside, I'd probably go for the latter.

On budgets, we know that much of the parachute payments are going to be eaten up by debt repayments, and they appear to have a number of players on significant wages who might be hard to shift, parts of the squad look a bit aged, they're losing a number of players out of contract, they'll presumably free up some cash from player sales, but those players will need to be replaced as well.

It looks to me like they need to bring in 10 - 12 new players, and at short notice (due to uncertainty surrounding relegation) they might not get the best value for money, in terms of which is the better job, I don't think there's that much in it between the two clubs

I was under the impression they'd be screwed this season given what came out re their financial situation but when I saw Kompany appointed, it suggested that the picture for Burnley wasn't as bleak as some would suggest (or they're just doing a Leeds / Derby and massively overspending as a last roll of the dice).

A £4m bid for Twine plus others I've read suggests they'll be a force to contend with this coming season.

I don’t think they will do a Fulham that’s for sure. At a guess playoffs challenging for the second automatic, whilst BFC dominate the division all season.

It feels very much unknown to me but I think they'll spend a lot more than us and Kompany has the potential to go well. Will attract players. They could do anything really, too early to say.

I'm not that up on the Belgian football league, but Anderlecht have won it almost 50% of the time over the last 70 years or so, a third and fourth place finish isn't all that impressive for them.

Maybe he'll do a great job there, but I can see this going horribly wrong.

I hope I'm wrong but it would be a surprise if Burnley and Norwich don't go up automatically. I think Watford will have to make do with play-offs with a new manager and, as the three best teams went up last year, I just can't see anyone else making a play for automatic unless Boro or Sheff U have fantastic seasons.

Be a very young and very different Burnley side. Lot of mainstays gone. Suspect they’ll probably go the way of Sheffield United … slow start but be in contention for the play-offs at least by the end.
