Calling Young & Infrequent Posters

OK, this one might drop like a lead weight but now that we're in the business end of the season it would be good to read the views of our younger and/or more infrequent posters about how you think it's going to turn out for Blackpool, and why.

Us of a more...err, mature vintage post regularly about promotion being ironed on, automatic being a breeze, the play-offs no sweat, sack Critchley we're sh*te! (62), and so on....So to read the views of the less frequent or more junior AVFTTers would make a refreshing change.

Wasting your time my son occasionally posts but it's the old farts like ourselves who put him and his Blackpool supporting mates off coming on here they use other forms of social media.

As he said to me - Dad Avftt does my head in.
I'll see if he'll add to thread later when I finish work. 👍

I’m 30 so hopefully I still just about fit into the ‘junior’ demographic!

I’ve grown up watching a relatively successful Blackpool FC team, firstly under McMahon, then under Grayson and then the brilliance of the Holloway teams.
I’ve seen us play some of the very worst football (Hendry, McDonald, Grayson 2.0) and also some of the best (McMahon, Grayson 1.0 and of course Holloway).

This season we undoubtedly have a squad of players who are, as individuals, as good as any group of players we’ve had at this level. As a team though they’re yet to hit their stride. We’ve played some incredible stuff at times but I don’t think we’ve once done it for a sustained 90+ minutes. We’ve also played some absolute garbage and the first half of the Burton game was about as bad as I can EVER remember seeing from a Blackpool squad.

I can’t remember a squad having such a constant injury plagued season.

I can’t think of a team I’ve watched in tangerine which has so much potential and promise without ever actually showing what they’re capable of.

I keep expecting us to catch fire and play the high tempo high press of pre season and put a team to the sword with 5 or 6 goals. I know we beat Wigan 5-0 but I don’t think it was a 5-0 performance.

I’m incredibly impressed with the strides we’ve made as a defensive unit and the improvement Marvin has made over the course of the season is phenomenal. Turton, Yates, Dougal, Husband and Stewart (as well as Ballard and Gabriel) are as good as any player in their position in this division. Madine on his day can be unplayable and really does a hell of a lot more for the squad than score goals.

The attacking element of our midfield and our ‘wingers’ (Virtue, Ward, Anderson, Sarkic, Woodburn (when he was here), Kai Kai, Lubala Mitchell and to a slightly lesser extent CJ) have been the biggest disappointments for me this season. They all have or were supposed to have a lot of quality but have largely been impotent. I expected these players to push on and play with the freedom similar to that of the Holloway era and for at least a couple of them to step up and provide the goals and assists which we desperately need.

There’s still time for them, even this season, and during the last 45 minutes against Burton and for short periods throughout the season these players have shown what they’re capable of.

Our season now hinges on whether these players can hit form and find some consistency. If they can then goals will flow and we should find ourselves in the play offs.

If they don’t we finish relatively comfortable in mid table.

If it’s the latter we move into next season with a solid GK in Maxwell and a very solid backline of Turton, Epiketa, Grettarson and Husband with Stewart and/or Dougall sat in front of them. With Yates and Madine up top we have the basis of a very strong first XI.

We need to find the magic and creativity in midfield and on the wings.

I don’t blame Critchley or anyone at the club for assembling the team we currently have. Kai Kai, CJ, Virtue etc on paper should be able to provide what we’re missing. At the start of the season they looked as if they would and we were only really asking questions about the defence and the strikers.

It’s really been a bizzare season but I am hopeful for the future. Critchley is improving players young and old. We are playing a style of football which has proven to be effective at times and whilst we took a step back from the attacking to shore up the defence that did in fact work. I think we’re 1 or 2 players away (combined with some consistency from those we currently have) from being serious promotion contenders. Those game changing players are out there and available to us too. Accrington, Crewe and Lincoln have chanced upon them this season with much smaller budgets. With our developing backroom team and identify I expect we will eventually find our next game changing player - a Hoolahan and Adam made their way here under the Oystons so I imagine under Sadler we’ve a better chance of unearthing the next real player of high quality.

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought Virtue was injured from the start of the season for a long period.

Quite possibly was but he’s still failed to deliver what he’s capable of in my opinion. All the ability in the world to shoot but afraid to take the shot on unfortunately. I think if Virtue was a touch braver he’d be a Championship player.

I’ll think we will just miss out on the play offs by a few points, our slow start will end up biting us on the arse.

the main reason people who are my age (25) and younger don’t use AVFTT, is that the old forum was just too hostile, and most times it wasn’t about the football. You would start a thread, and just get slated on for having a slight different view/opinion.

a lot of the younger generation use mostly Twitter to engage in anything Blackpool FC related, just as it is a lot easier to communicate with other fans, and find out any information of what is going on.

Afraid or told that if there's a pass on, the pass is the priority?

Thanks for coming on and engaging. It would be good if you were to stay around.

Thanks for the very interesting post LA1. Yes, you do qualify as a junior poster (still...but time marches on ☹️), however, you are a seasoned AVFTTer who is more than able to fight your corner.
I will take issue with you on Virtue. It's taken time for him to get his act together after being out injured. Now, (past 4 games) he is showing his worth: linking midfield and forward play, getting stuck into challenges and having a shot - although I do agree he should be doing more of that. If we carry on at Oxford as we left off against Burton, then I expect Matty to weigh in with a goal.

I’m 27 and I prefer reading stuff on here than I do on other social media platforms, everybody here is a pool fan and it’s interesting to see people’s opinions on stuff whether I agree with it or not and it usually makes for a good debate. I enjoy twitter for football related stuff but the comments are mainly kids trying to troll other clubs or posting utter shite. I’d say we’ve got one of the best fans forums on the internet, never a dull moment 😂

I'm 29. I started watching the pool under Mcmahon at the start of the rise up the leagues. From what I've watched over the past 19/20 years things look very positive for the squad, the start was poor yes, but we seem to do better coming from behind and sneaking into the play off mix in April/ may time, and I can see us do that again this season, hopefully the goal machine, Ekpiteta, and Stewart recover for that run in.

You need a chat with deep challenger ⚽🍊👍

they use other forms of social media
When Twitter etc took off about 10 years ago, I did think it would spark the end of these sorts of forums but actually having read AVFTT over the years, this one seems as popular as ever. It does seem though as if fans come to it a bit later - I'm 44 with a 21 year old son who reads AVFTT but never posts. He says it's easier on Twitter as he only has to write a couple of sentences 🙄

I don’t think Twitter is about debate. More just mouthing off your opinion most of the time without the construct of actual discussion thrown in the mix.
I think this forum can be intimidating to break into, especially, but not only for youngsters.
That’s not necessarily a criticism of the forum, but a lot of the posters, myself included, have been posting for a good few years and it could appear as though we’re one big clique never mind just a few little cliquey groups. That’s also a good thing, as in the main we have each other’s backs owing to a long and mutual posting repartee, but new posters hopefully will look past that and not mistake it for an exclusive membership forum.
By the way I think the old board was far worse for cliques and much worse for tolerating abusive and intimidating behaviour.

I think it would be a great asset if some more of our younger Seasiders started joining in on here and we need to look beyond a username or it’s newness before we decide to get a little offensive with our responses, otherwise we’ll put them off. And they are the future 👍

Good post Lala. One of the reasons I put this thread up was because I looked at the list of members viewing the Board and thought, I don't recall seeing a post from this or that person before. I think it's good to widen things out and increase the number of regular posters.

Infrequent (very).
Avftt is my “senior” source of information. Differing opinions will always crop up. Nothing wrong with that. You can always dodge divisive subjects by not getting sucked in. There’s a lot of humour on here but cliques or offensive statements are a turn-off for me, and I wouldn’t want to change this board.
C’mon the ‘pool this Afto. (Oh, aye and, England cricket and RU.)

Very good post Lala, I agree about getting younger members on here, I keep trying to get my Son to post but he is reluctant to join us, why ? I don’t know . He does get a bit cheesed off with all the post match ranting by all the experts of everything. The forum would be much better with some young uns on!

All these 'young fans' are getting older by the day.
It won't be that long before they start drifting on to this Board.
It comes with age. 🤨

Who says old style forums are dead looking at yesterday's activity. I know a lot of Blackpool fans who stopped reading AVFTT around the whole #NAPM, Mushrooms and suing era because it did (understandably) turn toxic. A lot more chats I'm having these days with 'Pool fans are about AVFTT although most I know don't post on here. I've noticed the number of members (ironic!) is climbing and so maybe this run will prompt more to head this way. Still, 'on it's day', a cracking read - so much better now all the crap is on the other forum!

This place used to be quite fun but as with most things in life it has become sterile, overly PC and quite frankly boring. There are a bunch of posters that are like Critchley, as dull as dishwater and speak in even duller football cliches, then theres the ones who just say shit to get a reaction, theres the thick ones who misinterpret everything and theres the ineviatable repetition.

I do look in fairly regularly but not for a long time have I felt the urge to post, whilst I am imprisoned in a quarantine hotel I may be tempted as I see some of the posters who used to try and dominate the old board and annoyed the shit out of me appear to have left,or maybe flounced off, thank god.

As for the team, I've only watched two games this season, I thought we were excellent in the first back in maybe November, the second last week against MK Dons, it was dire but at least we defended well. As for our prospects, we have a chance of playoffs I guess but it occurs to me we need more goals to ensure three points more often than not.

I'm afaraid football has been losing it's appeal for me for years but I have had so many "adventures" and fun times following the Pool that they will forever be in my heart, alas I have to say it was a lot better 40 yeras ago, but then what wasn't?

Another slagger of Critch, some sad bastards on here 😬
