Changes on Tuesday

Do we expect them? Will NC utilise his squad. I hope so.
Be surprised if Robson isnt back in midfield. Hopefully see more of Kemp and Sarkic too.
We have the squad. Lets use it and get some fresh bodies in.

Can see him resting Woodburn because he hasn't had much football and will probably need to be rest. Can see Kemp coming in for him and Robson for Ward. Hamilton looked tired today so he might get rested as well and have Lubala come in for him with Kaikai playing on the right.

I am a very cheery soul this evening thanks Gareth. A much needed win, and several beers later the evening is getting better by the hour. Why change?

Sorry pal. Misinterpreted your post. Thought you were saying home win on Tuesday.

I actually started trying to reply with a message of the 11 I'd pick and I can't actually decide what I'd do so I abandoned it!

I think critchley will make a couple of changes just for fresh legs as games are coming at a pace now and for the next few weeks, although we may see changes for the game next Saturday instead to get round the silly trophy game rules on number of changes (if that is the week after). He might potentially even give CJ a breather and have him as an option for last half hour. Kemp needs to get a start soon as we're wasting his loan by not giving him some minutes, and he has impressed me whenever I've seen him.

I think he will twist but probably no more than 2 changes with Yates most likely to lose his place and possibly "rest" Woodburn for Madine and Kemp.
Yep, Yates is the enigma. Two issues for me. I think it fair to say we'll probably come under a bit more pressure than we did today. You need Yates work rate but then I also think you need the target man of Madine. Yates clearly isn't a target man as he's simply not tall or physical enough with his back to goal. He's meat and drink to a centre half. Don't know which way he'll go on that if it's a choice of either or. Think he'll bring Robson back in too. But that's about it.

Agree that we should see some more of the squad on Tuesday, and I think CJ should be a sub and used only if required
He not only looked tired today but he looked as if he was either carrying a slight injury or was feeling a bit sorry for himself for some reason. A couple of times a ball was played forward to him but he was on his heels and the defender managed to track back to win the ball. His "body language" (a favourite term of Chisnall) didn't look great.

Good call about Madine as well. When he came on today, he won the first high ball and retained possession in the final third (sadly nothing came of it of course). A good target man/outlet, especially away from home.

The players not getting a place must be wondering what they're doing wrong after watching the 5 defeats so far! I saw a post suggesting NC has lost the dressing room. I hope not, but giving other players a chance might help anyway

It’s been nigh on impossible to judge anyone up to this point.

Which ever version of our season you subscribe to, Critch needs to be given time to bed in or these tactics are insane, the players are the ones suffering at the moment (along with us).

Ive been highly critical of Ward but in reality he’s being played out of position when pushed up forward and out wide would suit him, Yates isolated or shoved out wide with no help gives us an impossible task to assess him. Keshi obviously has attacking talents but is seldom used in that role. Kemp gave us a glimpse today but has been largely overlooked. Sarkic? Could be amazing could be awful we just do know.

I don’t think the odd change in personnel here is going to do much. We’ve signed a plethora of similar players, which on the face of it don’t seem to fit the system.

Plugging and playing them in the current shape I believe will bring about little change.

Personally I’d give 442 a go, but Incan also see the merits of 352. This is the real change not only for Tuesday but the season.

Both of the above however make about 50% of our signings pointless.

For this reason I can see us plodding on with what’s being served up at the moment.

Isn’t the definition of insanity continually doing the same thing and expecting different results.

Joins midfield to attack. Quick feet. Fresh. Has a shot. Stretches defences. Well, that's what he did at Burton. He hasn't had a chance here.
Fair enough if he did that at Burton but as you say, he hasn't done any of that here so far.
What do you think Critchley said to him today before coming on? I think he said '...see that Kazumo(?) bloke... he gets the ball every time off the keeper so close him down and take the ball off him and we'll be in on goal...' and yet every time Sarkic was second to the ball and invariably gave away a free kick. I'm afraid he's in the Lubala camp for me. But, plenty of time so let's hope things work out for him.

I'd start him pal. Rest CJ and Yates, start Sarkic and Kemp. Give them both hands time and a real chance to prove themselves.

Obviously Hamilton's place depends on his fitness.
I'm certainly not going to give any definitive judgement on Sarkic on the few minutes I've seen him play. I do like his body language on the pitch and he looked like he'd lost a bit of timber since I first saw him. IMO he's one to watch and for the hundreth time he calls himself a striker.

Chisnall was saying Hamilton was struggling with a slight knock today (although who knows if he got the player right!). If true though, he may be rested with Kemp coming in.
2 goals conceded in 3 games suggests that the one thing he shouldn't touch is the defence with Williams in front. I'm not sure Williams is the best player, but he's done well recently and it's working so leave it alone.

Williams certainly played well today but will Dougall be even better?
Or do we play with 2 holding mid-fielders? If we do we'll definitely have to play with attacking wing backs.

Well Dougall certainly comes with some encouraging reports. Two holding midfielders could be a way to go against the better sides, and I think in Williams, Robson and Dougall we've got options there. Assuming Dougall is decent, as we really have no idea yet.

I do think we need to fit the Viking into the back 3/4 he’s international and you feel he and Ballard will suit together It’s weird that Robson missed out on a place and you’d think he will be in Tuesday Madine is macho and surely needs to be present given the youth we have

It has to be as win at Wimbledon next for some first rm of stability platform

I am a little scared

I think Critch will want us in a good winning position to get him in a game or his hand is forced like Ballard's introduction.

He's got one (I think) cap for a country that's about the size of Wigan Borough in terms of population. He's got to earn a shirt and the defence isn't the issue in the last three games. Don't disrupt the one bit that's working surely?:

I agree on the goal machine and Robson

I think the Wigan defence is susceptible to pace, so NC needs to be mindful of that when looking at the foward line.and midfield. I do think Madine may help mix it ip with thrm. I also think he needs to use Kemp and Robson more for this one. I don't think he will change defence, unless the are are injuries. I don't think Dougall will be match fit for a while, as he had no pre-sesson

That may of been a winning team yesterday but it wasn’t a good performance. Changes are required as the games are coming thick and fast and we need to try and avoid injuries as well as potentially finding someone who can take his chance with a great performance.
I would still like to see NC try a different formation from the start. Maybe in the FA cup. Keep the faith UTMP#

Yates should play wideish left, CJ central and ? right.

Never understood the clamour to have subs start after coming on with little pressure and the game situation set up.

I fancy Robson will come in and Ward take Woodburn's spot. Apart from that I can't see much else, maybe KaiKai replaced, but for who- not Bez or Anderson (if fit) I hope.

Its Wimbledon up next...Wigan game is a week on Tuesday

I would play Thorniley at left back he did well for Accrington in that position., and perhaps move Mitchell into a midfield role.
Is it a case of we have to keep a clean sheet to win the game because we don't look to have more than just a single goal in us each game? If so, that's a big ask.

Those were the lowest % possession stats we've had this season (39%), the highest were against Gillingham (70%).
We even had 15% more possession against Ipswich.
It is all about effective possession and we certainly gave the ball away too easily yesterday which was probably because we tried, clearly unsuccessfully, to play balls over the top to use CJ's and Kaikai's pace. It didn't help that CJ appeared to display a complete lack of interest for much of the match but he did of course give the killer pass from the right, with his right foot that created the goal.
So I wouldn't change anything for Tuesday. Let's keep a clean sheet and win ugly again until we start playing with a bit more confidence that comes with a winning mentality.

Thorniley cant even get in the side when his own position becomes available let alone when he would be asked to do a different job. He must be ready for off as he has been completely snubbed by the manager

Not sure why people are suggesting CJ through the middle. He isn't a central striker.

Well that’s where some Mansfield fans thought he was at his best. Not sure he has the all round game, trickery and so on to be a top winger?
He would need another striker alongside him though I think so that would mean a change of system, so it probably won’t happen.

Utilise the squad on Tuesday Neil. Get some fresh legs in up top. Look at the midfield and see how we can freshen things up. Robson perhaps. The back 4 and keeper is pretty much sorted.

Kemp for Woodburn, Kaikai for Hamilton, Robson back in the midfield 3, defence unchanged.

It was a winning team but one i would definitely change, Hamilton looks like he needs a rest and Kemp looks like he is raring to go, Woodburn needs to be eased back in.

Having him and Hamilton on the bench shows how strong our squad is in theory, could make a real impact coming on in the last 20 minutes.

Robson for Ward, Kemp for Hamilton and Madine for Yates.
I would definitely give Ward a break - I think he only featured on Saturday because Critchley felt bad about taking him off after Husband's dismissal. Not sure Kemp is ready for a start yet and I'd leave Yates on - the sooner he gets a goal , the better.

Wonder if he will swap Ballard for grettarson to give him a breather.

I would keep the Ballard/EKP partnership together as long as possible so they can develop an understanding. Players would much rather play a game than have to train. Grettarson should be given time to get up to speed. I would like to see Gabriel given another chance he was given a baptism of fire against Edwards of Ipswich.

I'd agree and I'd say that none of MK Dons' possession was effective. Most was passes between Keogh and the keeper.
