Civil Servants

Sorry my post wasn’t directed at you. It was referring to the spat between the two previous posters. Bit of history I suspect 😂

Mex, it's quite a story. I think that all he has ever wanted is my attention, and approval. 😀

Nope.
Just my opinion/experience having worked in both local government and in my own business for 35 years.

Agreed TN, that’s the basis of where my opinion is coming from too. Experience of working alongside sadly an awful lot of talented colleagues, but an unhealthy mix of colleague who’s talents are not befitting of their position.

The private sector unfortunately, in positions of influence, unfortunately has so many lacking in ability. Their judgement is often so woefully short of what’s required.

Lauding their former educational institutes, or having a supercilious attitude to others - Doesn’t make them any fitter for office, than the next man, or women.

I have just read this thread for the first time and even before the O/P's second message I knew immediately it was sod all to do with the Civil Service but everything to do with a certain retired Civil Servant in an attempt to ridicule him and try and sound clever. Well, it was more transparent than a transparent thing from someone who clearly has an axe to grind but hasn't got the bollocks to just come out and say what it is, he would rather play silly games and try and be clever, when in fact, he just makes himself look foolish. Get over it (whatever it is) and stop denying what is patently obvious.

Bit disappointed Robbie posted in the end, he had done well to refrain, but as soon as he did, the eyes lit up and the O/P slithered forward in his chair closer to the computer screen.

Oh, and no need to add your usual retort, like "Why do you defend Baz when he has called me out on here over the years...... It's because we actually know each other and are quite capable of settling our differences of opinion face to face and still remain friends, you should try it!

My OP posed some points on a political forum. Mainly whether The Civil Service has a part to play in developing and implementing policy for the current Government - and if so, are they exempt from being held to account, and or, to be questioned by the electorate, and does their work actually mean inadvertently the Ministers carry the can for their ill judgement.

Of course I’m not maligning millions of people I have never met, don’t be so dramatic.

I am simply questioning the ability of a proportion of people in these positions, and pointing out the fact they often serve under many differing Governments, and they maybe mistake prone, make ill judged calls, and now you mention it, not politically impartial.
How many bleeding times....the civil service is accountable to the elected Government, not to the general public.

It was a rhetorical question. I think there should be more methods for the Civil Service to be held to account - Specifically because they aid the Government to develop and implement its policies.

The poster CalmDown thinks the political forum on AVFTT is ridiculous and laughable.

And so he (or she, or they) are never off it getting all hepped up and none too jolly over these pages. Bless.

Poor CalmDown. Deep breaths and relax.........

I don’t think it’s ridiculous or laughable.

I think in terms of the political debate, it’s often abusive and intolerant of others views, and therefore no debate even occurs.

I also feel the likelihood of the more fanatical types changing their mindset is zero, and their rants and bile is akin too speaking to a wall.

I’m on this forum no more than you are and not angry with you at all, often liking some of your less stress and abuse ridden posts.

After all, you’re the poster stalking me most nights after midnight, on a regular basis.

If you’re looking to accuse of anger issues, pot, kettle 😉

Baz was asked to leave aged 27 as he insisted in writing with a quill and failed to embrace what was considered modern technology at the time. His £4.33 a month Civil Service pension is the lowest ever recorded according to the Guinness Book Of Failures.

If you cannot succeed in business privately or as an individual then become a civil servant.

As a matter of interest Nick, how do you account for those people who manage to make a success of both public and private sectors?

I'm very interested in your theory on why - by your definition - I seem to have been quite extraordinary. 😀

You really are a 🍆 ......and where do you work Trammo, what have you achieved that we can all view?
I don't know BazBob but if you had said that to me.......I would come down your corner and knocked those big issues right out of your hand......

Sorry, I do apologise to Recidivist3 and to any Big Issue sellers that may be on this forum for associating them with Trammo.
Big Issue sellers are trying their very best and to have that thrown at them must be embarrassing....My bad.

They , like yourself ,are as rare as chickens teeth. You are indeed extraordinary.
For me leaving local government was like finally saying goodbye to Mr Incompetence, adios Mrs Useless, adieu Mr Coffee break, and sayanora to Miss jobs worth. Plenty of those types in the private sector as well but I don't have to deal with them.

Why bother finding the good in things when you can cherry pick your personal vendettas and use them to castigate a whole service. You, sir, are a charlatan.

Those we have, or indeed do - work in local or central government for a reasonable amount of time, will, for sure, agree with the body of your post.

Sadly, may I add!

In a nutshell why is the public sector so bad?

Lack of accountability. In a nutshell.

Charlatans make up a large proportion of middle managers in local government and the civil service. I sir, am a geezer.

Edit. I was often in trouble during my 25 years in social care mainly because I didn't suffer fools and my good northern common-sense often rubbed people up the wrong way. If there was an elephant in the room I pointed it out. Wasn't afraid of questioning and looking at other perspectives. One of the reasons I like most of the posters on AVFTT is that they have those qualities.

He wont be busting any inflation rates on that.Anyway he went to work for MI6 but isnt allowed to tell anyone, and was given the job of infiltrating an embassy in London. When he asked 'Russian?' they said 'no, just take your time like you usually do '.😁

*some good comebacks on here BRR-looks like you're catching on (smiley)

Those are good qualities Nick so there's no need to go on about the public services as if it's all tea breaks and skiving, when that's far from the case.
