Blackpool Football Club, in conjunction with the Club’s Community Trust, has today launched a festive fundraiser to support the local community.

The initial objective of the campaign aims to address a startling statistic that shows at least 700-800 children of Primary School age in the town will wake up on Christmas Day without a present to open.

With your backing, we are looking to raise money to provide every Primary School child identified with a toy and a gift box to unwrap on Christmas Day.

The project is to be delivered by the Community Trust through local schools and organisations.

You can donate to this initiative by visiting the Trust’s Just Giving page before Monday 14thDecember 2020.

Simon Sadler, Owner of Blackpool Football Club, said:

“When Ash made me aware of the stark statistic of quite how many local children would go without this Christmas, I felt that the Club and the Community Trust had a responsibility to work closely together to try to address this issue.

“To show our support for this fundraising effort, Gillian and I, along with the staff and partners of Segantii Capital Management, will look to match, pound for pound, all of your generous donations given via the Trust’s Just Giving page.

“As we see out this most testing of years, let’s all pull together to spread some festive cheer.”

Ashley Hackett, CEO of Blackpool FC Community Trust, said:

“This year has been a tough year for many in the community, and to think of local children waking up on Christmas Day to nothing is truly heart-breaking.

“Our intention is to deliver these presents to children of Primary School age thanks to your fundraising. However, we would love to be able to raise enough money to go even further and assist even more children in the town and community.”

Wow, a very depressing statistic. Makes you appreciative of what we have ourselves at Christmas and the fact we have a club willing to help those in our town who need it!

I hope we raise lots of money - in fact I know we will! 🍊

With our owner we are in dreamland compared with the nightmare of a few years ago. To think my small donation will be doubled by such a loving family.

Just donated, c'mon Pool fans get your money out. There is always someone worse off than yourself and what SS and the comunity trust are doing is brilliant for the people of Blackpool we should also be there for them👍🏻🍊

Let’s all get behind this & show Sadler once again he was right to back us. Anything helps 🙌

It’s an absolutely amazing gesture from the owner of BFC. I haven’t had a penny of income since March due to my buisness being closed by the government but I will donate £10 to buy a little toy. If they decide to do a food or toy parcel too I can do these too. I did three last year for homestart etc via BST. I did one for a child 0-2 years and one for the elderly and a food parcel for the homeless. These included gloves hat scarves toiletries and food tins and packets

What an excellent thing to do, will donate later today. My church have done something and my little girl loved picking out a present for someone else.

Heartbreaking statistics however about 700-800 children in the town not having a present to open on Christmas Day. Whether that is down to genuine financial hardship or awful parenting I feel so sad for those children. As a child Christmas should be the most amazing time of year. What are we doing to the next generation?

Be great if some local businesses could get behind this too. I'm not on social media, but if people could share this on Twitter and facebook then I'm sure that would help.

Sad thing is the club will not have to be the only people having to doing this. My old man has helped out at the salvation army for past few Christmas's organising donations and creating gifts for kids.

Scouting in Blackpool is having a tin drive to help supply food for local food banks.

Donated, great initiative. Everyone deserves to have happy memories of Christmas when they were a kid and if this helps that to happen it's worth it. Great to see fans, owners and players pulling together like this, it's what we've missed for so so long.
