Boca v Benfica now.
Have to confess, those Argies are great fans.

South America has some of the best fans in world football. Much better than alot of the European clubs.Boca v Benfica now.

But the antics of Boca Juniors on the pitch and sidelines are a ** disgrace as usual. Scumbags.South America has some of the best fans in world football. Much better than alot of the European clubs.
I was looking forward to watching that but due to work commitments I decided to watch it on catchup so basically you’ve ruined my eveningSounds like we all missed a thrilling 0-0 draw between Al Ahly and Inter Miami in the opening game
a very eurocentric view - that game is a 10pm kick off in Brazil on a Sunday night - prime time for a Brazilian audienceStarts on Sunday.
I take it we'll all be staying up to watch the huge clash between Botafogo and the Seattle Sounders at 3am on Monday??
Really hope this tournament gets f'cked off after one year or the players that are playing are completely exhausted come the start of the season and thus forcing the clubs to reject a future invite.
You've actually raised another point around the quality of the teams participating. Neither of those 3am KO teams are current champions of anything.a very eurocentric view - that game is a 10pm kick off in Brazil on a Sunday night - prime time for a Brazilian audience
Why does everyone say that these day, not gonna lie, have we all gone American! Not gonna lie overall I've quite enjoyed the tournament so far.
I used the phrase as it goes against every other post on here (apart from td53 who is also enjoying a summer football tournament)Why does everyone say that these day, not gonna lie, have we all gone American!
Just wait until the knock out stages. Bet they do. PSG for instance will certainly want that trophy to sit alongside the European Cup.Only watched the second half, but if anyone thinks the European teams are taking this seriously and not as glorified friendlies, I think this game put that to bed.
You may be right, the money alone should be a motivation for them. The players get $24m to split between them if they win it.Just wait until the knock out stages. Bet they do. PSG for instance will certainly want that trophy to sit alongside the European Cup.
It's nice to see teams like Boca, River Plate, Palmeiras etc. We rarely get to see South American club sides.I was predisposed to dislike this with the money angle and that I like to have a break from football in the summer. I've actually found myself watching it though and quite enjoying it. It's something different.
I suppose I better try the Hundred as well hadn't I?
Absolutely. It's nice to see teams like Boca, River Plate, Palmeiras etc. We rarely get to see South American club sides.
Americans are definitely turned off by scoreless games they just don't understand the concept of a 0-0 game. If you look at their main sports NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL there is always multiple scoring in each game and there is always a winner.I'm not a great fan of this tournament for a number of reasons, but it is interesting to compare styles of football. European v US, Middle East v South America etc. I don't expect the goal-less first game will endear football to the US crowds. Looking forward to the PSG v Athletico game today.
Which is a shame as I’ve seen some really good 0-0 draws .. often better games than if there’s been a goal as both sides go for it until the end.they just don't understand the concept of a 0-0 game.
Money, the winners get $24m to split between the players, the club gets over $100mWonder how the clubs squared this one with the players - free holidays for their families?
Next time a big club - let's call them Manchester City - complains about fixture congestion and tiredness, remind them that they chose to put their players through this. They did it just for the money too, because this competition proves nothing about who the best clubs in the world are.I think that the longer this competition goes, the more its obvious that some clubs ans players would rather be anywhere else. Watched the Chelsea game tonight and they couldn't care less. There have been some good games dont get me wrong, but its really starting to resemble a pre season friendly competition now.
I had this conversation with a lad from work yesterday and he said how can this be about who the best club in the world is, when the Champions of England, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Argentina aren't there. He's bang on with that, Barcelona were clearly the best Spanish club in every competition for gods sake. Even a club like Arsenal who were better in the league and Champions league than City aren't there, Bayern Leverkusen have been great for the past 2 seasons aren't there. Its a money grab and I can't wait for Pep to start going on about fixture congestion again, the comment section will be entertaining.Next time a big club - let's call them Manchester City - complains about fixture congestion and tiredness, remind them that they chose to put their players through this.
