Clubs going under

Given today’s news about fans not being allowed to return anytime soon, I wonder how many clubs will disappear by Christmas, or at least by the end of the season, and what impact would that have on the league? If a couple of clubs go under and can’t fulfil their fixtures, how will promotion/relegation by decided?

By the games between the clubs that don't go under.

I assume relegation and promotion will be decided by the number of points as always.

But I know what you mean. What happens if you lose to a particular team in the first fixture, but they aren’t around for the second?

Hopefully number of games played by all the teams left standing will be a factor. But who knows?

All games involving teams that disappear are nullified and points/goals removed from the table.

When Aldershot went under in the 80’s (?), we lost the three points we had won from the game we played, and I’m pretty certain that Tony Rodwell’s only ever league hat-trick was expunged from the record books as well. How annoying!!!

Good call but I cant see it being 'a couple'. Plenty of well run clubs it has to be said who have responsible owners, which I think is often overlooked by the agenda pushers as it were.
Difficult to see how clubs can survive more than say a season, given the bulk of their income comes from the gates.

Looking like the PL might have to intervene in that case which sort of flips the whole thing on its head; if the 'Greed League' hadnt become awash with the billions it has then it wouldnt be able to provide such a bale out.

Why would the PL intervene? It's a totally separate competition who have no obligation to the EFL in strict legal terms.

It makes you realise how lucky we have actually been with all that has happened over the past 18 months.

Have to feel for any club that doesn’t survive this pandemic not helped by the governments shambolic ruling or the equally shambolic EFL through no fault of their own.

This would have been BFC had the stains still been in charge - I’ve no doubt & Bloomfield road would be one big car park.

Its been mooted today because it keeps the competition alive although the Championship was becoming a sort of cul de sac for the EFL.
A good story on the BBC website earlier and even BRR's boss at the FSA has chipped in.

I’m sure that some of the top paid Prem players on the most disgusting salaries imaginable will sacrifice a weeks salary to help out the most needy EFL teams!🤔🤔

Im sure bale and co can save a few.

Will never happen but why when earning that much (600k a week) in these dark times would u not help the game/ clubs that gave u them richest

Denis Law scored 6 in an FA Cup tie that was abandoned so that great feat never made the record books either.🏐🏐🏐🏐🏐🏐

If notloB are one, I wont laugh (out loud too much)
Sorry Evo, but seeing that (local to ) sham of a club get 3 successive relegations is deserved.
They should hve been kicked out well before now.

Cant wait to see their next set of Accounts

I don't want to see any club go out of business, including Bolton. I'd sooner we had more opportunities to beat them tbh.

For those who didn't see it, Boris hinted at lunchtime in the HofC that there could be financial support announced by the Chancellor soon. No idea how that would be done but the simple fact is that if we have to go a full season with no fans in the ground, multiple clubs will fold. They're often important community assets that have positive benefits for towns so there is definitely a justification there to use public money.

I'd like to see (when restrictions are lifted), the cap on season tickets removed, and a rota system employed so that all season ticket holders get to see x number of games during the season. This would provide much needed revenue and ensure maximum interest is retained to maximise the sales of ifollow tickets too. I'm sure this could be done with a little planning and organisation.

I seem to remember we were the only club that had beat them twice . After the 6 points we had won were deducted we dropped a shedload of places .

The second most important thing he ever did in football; the first being scoring the winning goal for Man City that relegated their near neighbours from Salford in 1974-the year Dirty won the league.
If Carlsberg did football seasons 😁

Law had a bit of a feud going with Alan Ball. In the 1964/65 season at Bloomfield Rd Law was sent off after clashing with Ball. Some years later Bally scored the winner for England against Scotland at Hampden Park. On the video on You Tube you can see Bally after scoring mouthing some probably profane words in Law’s direction as he makes his way back to the centre circle.😀🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿👍

The league system below the Prem can’t go past November without collapsing. This doesn’t need Government assistance as the game is awash with money... it needs an emergency levy on the Prem... it could even reboot the game.

Sean Dyche was interviewed about prem clubs supporting elf clubs and he was totally against it making some valid points. He said, why is the clamour for prem clubs to fork out, they’re business like any other, plenty of othe businesses in other fields make fortunes, but are they going to throw money at those in trouble, why would they?
Of course that doesn’t take account of the community element of football clubs.

I could be wrong, but I think we won 5-2 at Aldershot

Surprised at Dyche of all the PL managers. Spent all his playing career in lower league & you feel Burnley, very much a six fingered community club are only ever one season away from relegation. Yes PL club's are a business like many other business's out to make profit but I struggle to think of a similar scenario where the gulf is ever widening and you can't escape from the word obscene.

Dyche is an admirer of Margaret Thatcher, so I imagine the thought of rich clubs bailing out the less well off will fill him with a mixture of horror and bemusement!
