Never seems to get much of a mention on here, thought he was a fantastic centre half who formed a solid partnership with Steve Hetzke. It always baffles me why he chose to join Gillingham when he could of aimed his sights higher imo. Any memories of Alan Balls protege?.

Yep I remember Colin Greenall and Steve Hetzke as a solid central defensive pair at the level we were at that time. But if I recall correctly, CG chose to leave for Gillingham to make himself more visible to scouts of the larger London clubs.

That always struck me as slightly odd when we have Liverpool, Everton, City and United on our doorstep (I know City and United weren't at their best in those days though). sadly it didn't work out for him in terms of long term advancement to the top tier.

A very good player who gave his all. I remember one game v Gillingham where Tony Cascarino was far too good for him. Not long after he signed for the Gills. I always thought the only reason he signed for them was so he wouldn’t have to face Cascarino again.

Gets plenty of mentions from me. My earliest memory of my favourite player really. Excellent centre half 👍

Favourite player. Didn't need pace as he was a fantastic reader of the game. Maybe lacked a bit of height and as everything was played generally in the air struggled sometimes with the physicality,
Born in the wrong era and could play more comfortably now.As a youngster he was great to learn off👍

He was a very good center half and ahead of his time really. I used to love his partner Steve Hetzke, his free kicks were real old school 100MPH pile drivers. They either went through the wall or knocked the wall over, happy days!

I was looking at the last ever Green over the weekend (as you do). We beat Reading 1 0 with a thunderbolt from Hetzke.

I've known Colin for many years having worked with him at Blackpool when he was in charge for a while and again when he was at LFA.
A thoroughly nice guy who cares about the person he's dealing with. He's now passing on his great extensive knowledge to other upcoming coaches at various levels within the game. I love hearing him on Radio Lancs, as his in depth knowledge of the game supercedes that of the likes of Ian Chisnall and others. He would do a great job back at Blackpool as Director of Youth.
