Could Fylde dodge a bullet?

The Football Association is believed to be due to make a decison on how many teams will be relegated from the fifth tier this campaign.
Ordinarily four teams would be relegated from the National League but after Bury FC were expelled from the Football League in August it means only one club will come down from League Two.
However, two teams will still be promoted from the National League this season which means the division would be unbalanced for the next campaign with 23 teams instead of 24.
One way the problem could be resolved is by only having three relegation spots in the National League this season, which is what happened last year when fourth-bottom Aldershot Town were saved from the drop at the expense of Gateshead who were expelled.

A lot depends upon what happens to Bury, doesn't it? If they are somehow admitted into the National League then the problem doesn't arise.

That does look highly unlikely though ; if Bury aren't allowed in then I would be amazed if they change the rules on promotion from the sixth tier at this late stage. It would be really difficult to do, for one thing. It is much, much easier to do as you suggest and just relegate one less team.

Having said that, are Fylde going to finish as high as 21st? They are 23rd at the moment and their run in looks very tough - Harrogate, Solihull, Dover, Hartlepool, Woking and Notts County all still to come, plus three or four games against teams in the mire with them.
