Could this be the year Burnley run out of steam

They have been clinging on in there for a couple of seasons and have survived thanks to a purple patch in their season but they do go on these runs where they look like they're going to drop like a stone. A poor start this season and might they ditch Dyche and see an inevitable return to the Football league?

Could well be. 2 of the 3 teams that have gone up look decent too (Leeds and WBA).

I think with Burnley it's always been a case of when, not if. They have a ton of injuries right now so could be in for a poor start.

What I'd like to know is, having received hundreds of millions of pounds in the last five years, what are they actually spending that money on? They rarely spend large transfer fees (as far as I'm aware - feel free to correct me), they've done nothing to improve the stadium either. If I was a Burnley fan I'd be wanting to know where all that money is going!

They’ve spent a lot of money regenerating and helping local communities, but they really need to invest in the squad. There’s a couple of issues-Dyche has had a few misses when he has spent money (especially Ben Gibson), and the club run a very tight ship. I can’t see how they stay up with the current squad with 3-4 signings.

Basically wages. They've just signed Dale Stephens from Brighton who was on 40 to 50 k a week there. I doubt he's come for less and that is typically an average wage for an average premiership player. A squad of 22 and it mounts up.

Yes they will go down if they continue to play " 19th century style football".Hoofball tactics make them the most dull side in the Prem.

Burnley turn over a profit most years 2018 it was 36 million last year 4.3 so fuck knows where the money is going and in last 5 years are minus 55 million on buying selling players which averages 11m a season which is sod all with the monies that come in.

I’d like them down.
when I saw Dyche ranting away about how the Prem should not help out EFL teams as his analogy was “would top businesses like Amazon or Facebook do the same for minor rivals” I was spitting.
When have Burnley suddenly become an Elite club? All smacks of Bolton wanting a two tier Prem league with no relegation from the second when they got full of theirselves.
I bet they’re not voting for that now the dirty murderers.....

Exactly. Burnley should be using whatever influence they have up there to argue for more distribution of the wealth down the leagues. Because they are absolute certainties to end up back in the EFL in the next few years.

Yes, they've lost a lot of goodwill through those comments. I still think there will be three worse teams than them unfortunately.

Fulham for one and Sheffield United are badly missing Henderson.

Anyone know what they've done to the ground, training ground, legacy etc?

Heard a rumour that they have special 6 fingers on each hand permisson from the Premier Lg to field any Burnley born goalie even though other clubs feel this gives them an advantage.Isle Of Man FC also have permission from the FA to select local three legged players.

They deserve great credit for what they have done.
They may have been rather careful with funds & run a tight ship but their stay in the top division will end.
As long as the money isnt being extracted by greedy owners keeping some cash reserve should help sustain them in the future.
That should be the goal of all 'smaller clubs' imho.

Having said that hope the feckers get relegated sooner rather than later! 🤞

Burnley have had bad spells before under Dyche, but he has always pulled it round. They get on a good run and do enough.

Bottom of the league and away at the Baggies tonight - I think the Dingles board have been wanting to get shut for some time and I reckon Turkeys have a better chance of surviving until Xmas than Dyche!

Early on there looks to be a few teams that will struggle this year, is there 4 or 5 of them at the bottom yet to record a win?

Will make for an interesting relegation battle at least.

Even if they lose at West Brom tonight i'd still back them to stay up under Dyche. They've been written off many times but still manage to prove a lot of people wrong. They just have that knack of doing whats needed.
Talk of an American takeover as well so they might be a bit stronger financially in a bit.

Whatever any of you say, you can't deny that Dyche has done a fantastic job in the time he's been there.
Can't see any other manager do what he's done with that team, and on the limited money available.

I don't see the attraction of continuing to stay up. They have another season of hoping to achieve mid table at very best, what an existence.

If I was a Burnley fan I wouldn't be too disheartened with relegation as it means the season after, as the club is run well, it would see them be a promotion pushing team. Cannot beat seeing your team winning and marauding up the division rather than just survive or have no hope of winning owt, which 15 or 16 of the Premier league set out to do every season.

Totally agree Dav, Dyche has done a fantastic job to keep them there. But I don't like his brand of football and I hope they come down.

The attraction is £200 million as opposed to a salary cap of £18.5 million in the Championship.

It is a pull!!.

I was thinking more than from a fans point of view. What does a Burnley fan dream of at the beginning of a season? 9 wins in 38 ganes and a 16th place finish?

Not for me season in and season out, rather see my team competitive and a dream to win a league.

Disagree with you Ghost.
Would I rather look forward to fixture release day and looking up when we were playing ManU. Liverpool, City etc or M.boro, Forest, Derby [3 big Championship clubs]. No contest imo. Same on matchdays too. The only big negative about being in the PL is the lack of 3pm kick off on a saturday. But I'd put up with that to be back there. Can you recall your individual match days in the Championship better than you remember the day of the PL matches. Sorry, for me the PL is the place I want Blackpool to be and I also daresay that the vast majority of Burnley fans would prefer to be in the EPL than the Championship.

Disagree away 20s but it's something I have always thought.

I would look forward to that once every 2 or seasons, absolutely. But every season, no I wouldn't. I want my team to be competitive at the top of the league. In the Prem unless we got an Arab owner (which I wouldn't want) then it's not going to happen.

You are correct I do want to see Blackpool as high as possible but competitive and not for survival. The PL is a mis-match.

But there's no guarantee you're gonna be at the top end of the Championship is there? I know we blame the Oystons but let's face it there's much bigger clubs than us now in the Championship who have gone down to the third tier. Nothing is guaranteed.

I have to say that I admire Burnley, they way they have gone about their business, they are where we should have been! Having said that I am of an age where Burnley were our great rivals in the late 80’s early 90’s we had a great rivalry. During that time after Knobbers the Dingles was the most intense derby. So for that reason I will smile if they are relegated

100% 20s. But on the balance of probabilities there is significantly a greater chance of being stronger and seeing your team win in the championship.

In a cycle I would take:

Season 1 - promoted to PL - fantastic we get to play the big boys and get Bloomfield Road on the map.
Season 2 - stay up, shove 2 fingers up at the critics and show we can do it.
Season 3 - if we get relegated c'est la vie.
Season 4 - challenge as one of the stronger teams in the league and the fans would be buzzing as we will be winning most of our games.
And so on..

I know this is simplistic and for me WBA for a long time had this model. And yes I would prefer that to the Burnley, Bournemouth, Bolton, Blackburn model when they were in the league:

Season 1 - 17th place, but we got a draw at arsenal.
Season 2 - 16th place - but we beat Chelsea.
Season 3 - 17th place, but we got to go to anfield, get the bunting out.

I do agree with you 20s, I would love us, PNE, Burnley etc all at the top of the PL being competitive but it isn't going to happen.

I'd just take us to be competitive at the top of league 1 for now!!!

I can't see the fun in being a West Brom fan who are the archetypal yo yo team and the one who Karl Oyston used to wax lyrical about.
Once again they've arrived in the premiership completely unprepared and what I don't get is their manager smiling all over his face after a goalless draw at home to Burnley. Neither of them will be getting anywhere near our 39 points.

I didn't see the game, and the thought of watching west brom and Burnley leaves me cold. I hardly watch any PL games if I'm being honest.

I may have switched on for tonight's game if fans would have been in there, would have jumping and also had an edge in the air.

You wouldn't have tuned in or would have cost £15 for the privilege sack that for those two bag of shite teams you could have put your mortgage on it being a draw.

so would I and I know it's a pipedream but I want us to be in the PL and I'd be happy to be a reasonably established mid table PL team which has been pretty much the case with Burnley for a few seasons now.
And yes it is a simplistic view your first scenario - nowt wrong with that in this case though - and sure right now I'd take it and on paper it sounds more appealing/exciting than option two but ultimately the PL is where I want us to be.

I'll just add and it's each to our own of course but I love the EPL and the excitement, stacks of goals, quality of games has been fantastic. Every week. Jeez, even the shiite interpretation of VAR is exciting and controversial too.
