Councillor Blackburn

Been suspended by the Labour Party after serious allegations,he denies them but is standing down as leader of the council until the investigation takes place.

The Teflon coated, smug, man-child will no doubt come out of this unscathed (hope not). Referring to Blackpool folk as "donkey botherers" and his comment in a meeting referring to the Gestapo (or similar?) and his friendship with Koko and his steadfast refusal to support Blackpool fans . . .

I hope whatever it is he is humiliated in the most public way possible and we never see him again.

As an exile I’ve never quiet understood how he kept getting elected given the Obvious animosity and clear lack of quality.
Unfortunately, football plays very little part when it comes to electing people into office. So as much as we all despised Blackburn on here for pretty much siding with the Oystons that played no part in the wider issue of electing the leader of Blackpool council. And is really why Andy Higgins failed to get elected.

Not living locally I personally know little about Councillor Blackburn except that I have read many posts about him on here and I can honestly say I can`t ever recall a single poster who had anything good to say about him so on that basis and also with his continuous support of the Oyston`s, which tells you all you need to know about the man, I would hope Blackpool will soon be rid of him once and for all.

So can he be counted as a good councillor and council leader, despite his football allegiances and friendship with Karl? Genuine question not being obtuse as 1950 says he literally has no defenders or advocates, only detractors. Just seems strange to me.

But... do you like him ???

Ive no real opinion on him as I’ve lived away from the Fylde Coast for 11 years now and I’ve only really heard snippets about him on here, the Gazette and a handful of family members. So I’m genuinely puzzled about how he lasted so long as he was clearly not very well liked.

I'm certainly not the best person to ask. Generally though, he's a labour councillor in a strong labour ward so in that respect it's very much a safe seat. I guess people on the whole vote for either red or blue and pay little attention to what is actually happening in the town. Whether the buck stops with him, I'm not sure, but in these times of supposed council budget cuts coming from govt, it seems that Blackburn has wasted millions of pounds of council money by failing to plan properly for what is needed. My biggest instance is the Talbot Rd fiasco. Personally I don't think we need a tramline running from the train station a couple of hundred yards down to the Promenade but even allowing for that, the sheer number of times Talbot Rd has been dug up and re-laid is sheer incompetence on the councils behalf.

No it’s interesting to hear about it from someone living in the town. Sad really that people only vote along party lines regardless of talent or merit. I also imagine it was an incredibly low voting turn out and lack of any challenge.

They got in this time with a vastly reduced majority, hopefully in 4 years time they will be out altogether.
Let’s not forget the town had its first Tory MP for 30 years at the last election.

Under him, some things got done. Unlike other recent past leaders. A poor leader though, dont know too much about his minnions and oppisition but a word floating about is USELESS.

Surely someone has connections on here & could give an alleged hint of his none law breaking misdemeanour.

Hey I live in Australia but still know it couldn’t have happened to a nicer man! Good riddance Blackburn

Blackpool North has had a Tory MP for the last 10 years and Labour held South for 22 years.

His deputy councillor Lynn Williams is now the acting leader and will remain so until a new one is appointed at the next full council meeting on 20 July.

Christ! Talk about out of the frying pan into the fire!! Williams is as bad if not worse than Blackburn 🤦‍♂️

Kangaroos in season on here are they?
I'll wait until I (a) know what the accusation is and, (b) see whether he is found guilty. Until then it is right that the Party has suspended him and it is right that he should stand down as leader of the Council.
My attitude towards Blackburn as a 'friend' of the Oystons and mouther of stupid jokes about Blackpool FC is a separate issue.

The general consensus is that he's a fairly smart bloke for a local Councillor in a small authority. Definitely a very confident fellow. Which can be a both a strength and a weakness. I hear he didn't plan to be in post as long as this, which makes you wonder whether he hasn't had the better offers he hoped for?

According to the BBC the allegation is from a woman and the police are not interested.

Make of that what you will!!!!

Ummmm! Well not quite in the same league as that tory corrupt sleaze bag Jenrick, now that is what I call serious and should have been launched out of parliament with a boot up his fat bent backside straight into the dock.

I have never been a fan myself but started feeling sorry for him while reading this thread and I too have never heard anybody have a good word about him.

I wonder if his mother likes him ?

Is he still in a relationship with Cllr Coghill from down south.
Yup. Theres some various articles around about it -Waltham Forest which has connections with Imposter BASIL.

Its where Ron and Reg buried one or two of their former clients 😁
