Covid seems to be spreading like wildfire

I've been suffering from really bad flu like symptoms for nearly a week and feel like rubbish. Although I work at home the missus is a key worker and so I went to Banks Street car park for a test last Thursday. Thankfully it was negative however I've since learned my manager and a colleague / mate have had positive tests. They have both been working from the office.

Going back to March I didn't know of anyone with Covid19, now I know 5 people in total who have got it.

Do others know more people with this 2nd time round? Is this all down to increased testing availability or is it the "new normal"???

Dont know anyone who has it now. My next door neighbour had it twice within 6 weeks when it first kicked off mind. She is tested every week as she works in a care home.
But no. Not heard of anyone having it in Fleetwood recently.

Mac, like you I didn’t know anyone who has tested positive.....until the last 7 days, 2 work colleagues and my sons mother in law. Also the school behind me closed for a couple of weeks recently due to a staff member and student testing positive.

Increased testing. You couldn’t get a test for love nor money in the critical months earlier in the year.
It’s the hospital admissions and deaths that tell the true story.

First time around it was (mostly) London and SE, this time around it's more NE/NW.

That said it's only October, things are likely to move around in the next 5 or 6 months, Lancashire may be in T3 today, it might be Surrey 4 weeks from now.

Testing going through the roof at the moment.
Where last month we did 100 tests in a day.......now it's hitting 800 - 900
Local sites doing 200 - 300 a day
Every region will now be getting their own site based testing centre......and they are currently trialling the new "20 minute" testing machines.
If these "Work".......then it's, obvious that those at risk can isolate and anyone with a clean bill of health can get back to work.

I suddenly had the vision of C-19 testing machines outside Wetherspoons.....A pint and a test £2.99
If you pass you can go in.........💰💲💵🤑

I didn’t know anyone first time around, but two work colleagues, albeit at different locations have tested positive and two children in my granddaughters year 7 class tested positive.

Another friend of mine tested positive yesterday. Just cold like symptoms , and a friends son in law did on Friday, again cold symptoms. It’s everywhere, but it probably was in Feb, March and April just without the testing to confirm.
Remember the common cold is a Coronavirus.

Aye. My friend that tested positive yesterday has to self isolate and it’s her mums funeral on Thursday 🥴

Funny that the Southerners were moaning at Andy Burnham about his stance on lockdown and how Mcr needs to take its medicine whilst their areas are tier 1.
Quickly forgetting that the north was thrown into full lockdown earlier this year when cases were minimal and the south was riddled.

Liverpool’s Mayor lost his brother to Covid yesterday.
Manchester want time and patience to come to an agreement apparently. Don’t they realise Covid waits for no man. It’s a risky strategy from
Burnham.
Hope it pays off for everyone’s sake.

The difference this time around is testing, we know where the virus is and can target the response accordingly, back in March the only solid information we had was hospitalisation and deaths, an indicator that lags by 2 - 4 weeks.

It's quite possible that by the time we're out of this the roles are going to be reversed with the south in T3 and Manchester in T1, do you think Mr Burnham will be calling for a national lockdown in those circumstances?

It’s not spreading like wildfire. The increased testing is identifying more cases. A guy who works for my company has tested positive ( the first person I know) . He had no high temperature, continuous cough or loss of taste but had a test as he felt a bit rough and his wife is a keyworker. I’ve spoken to him via Skype every day and he feels tired and a bit achey so thousands could have had it in March-May and not known and spread it as the Government’s world beating test and trace wasn’t available then😀

All a lockdown will achieve is to buy time but for how long until a vaccine is available? See you in a couple of years then.

Cycle threshold for tests increasing over thirty five cycles, amplification rate at these levels too sensitive to determine dead viral fragments from active fragments.

False positive excess 2.3% of all completed tests (over 26 million) not being deducted from daily positive tests published which is deliberately misleading and pushing up "cases" increasing.

Guy I worked with recons he had it although not tested, his wife did have it & as a nurse was tested around April. Daughter has had it, again nurse. Plus 2 others one another nurse & the other a secretary. 2 people at work (not that I’m there anymore) so it’s closer to home or appears to be, probably due to more testing.

Thousands will have done . People have tested positive for antibodies in my office who just had achey legs in March time.
The science and medics were very poor at accepting it was doing the rounds Feb and early March in the UK.
My daughter couldn’t get a test in March because she hasn’t recently come back from China or Italy. Bloody ridiculous they were so off the ball when the public seemed to recognise it was knocking about in the UK by then regardless of where you’d travelled.
It’s a good thing in someways now though as we probably have a sight more immunity between us than we actually think 👍

My wife went there for a test yesterday lunchtime. When did you get your result, Mac?

AFAIK the test only picks up something like 70% - 80% of cases, it could be that your one of the false negatives, esp if you've been in close contact with people who have tested positive.

My nieces daughters nursery nurse has tested positive now . Again cold only symptoms 👍

I wonder when the reports of people not actually having tests but receiving positive results will start to hit the mainstream media 🤔

I don't normally post on this side but just wanted to say my wife is a Manager at a local government unit and in march the unit was covid free..the NHS then discharged people with covid into the unit.....6 people died within days.
All 50 staff are tested weekly and all have showed negative...then last week all staff were given the antibody test for the first time.....48 staff members came back positive inc my wife.....i think far far more people have had covid than we think.

Me too and I think that’s such a positive reality and maybe why we aren’t seeing the hospital numbers and death rates climbing as significantly as they did in March and April 👍

It is actually a good thing that a lot more people have actually had the virus because we hope they have some immunity. Like others I am aware of a lot more people this time round that have got/had the virus but of course there's a far greater chance that they will have had a test and now actually know.
The Government test figures do seem to be levelling off over the last few days and that's possibly because we've got over the university/school surge.
Provided the NHS doesn't get overwhelmed I can't see why we need a National circuit breaker just yet but things can change quickly.
I think you need to look after yourself, avoid potential trouble spots like city centre bars and follow the hygene advice which is the olyn sensible thing the Government has to offer.

That makes sense. I feel I had Covid 19 earlier in the year and I'm also not convinced I haven't got it now despite being tested. I've had very strange flu like symptoms (not proper flu as I thought I was going to die of that a good few years ago) where I feel terribly weak, have no sense of taste or smell and breathing badly.

Hope I don't catch the asymptomatic

Think I had it last week but I was asymptomatic.

So....You cant get a test unless you register your details on the GOV.Com
You cant get on a testing site unless you have a QR code which is sent to the email you registered with
And you wont be allowed to do the test unless you have ID to confirm the name on the test when entering......

So how 🤔 are you going to get a test result sent to you if you didn't do the above?

Some friends who we had a drink with this lunchtime ( how naughty are we) went for a drive in test, two people in front of them-so no wait.Result back the next day, negative. Still can’t recall why they went for a test
In the first place but at least I know we are safe. But are we? Oh no it’s the end of the world as we know it

I may have done 350 or 400 tests yesterday......it's all become a blur....🤪😷

And Laytonian......we see families making a day out having a C-19 test........just keep doing it so you know your safe...👍

There are numerous reports that people who have registered to go and take a test have still received a positive result despite not actually taking the test.

I'm sure there are no issues, from top to bottom this thing has been managed magnificently.

The problem with the masses is that they think to themselves "I had a test on Tuesday and I was negative! Happy days!"....

But today is Wednesday...

The test only let's you know a day in time... Like a car mot.. Your car can break down the next day... The antibody test is the one which tells you if you have ever had it.

Only 5 reported cases in the world
You can however have long Covid and continue to tepositive

Nope. Tested positive for it twice. Early on too. No reason to believe she was lying about it. Be an odd thing to lie about actually!

That’s irrelevant, my nephew works on T&T also, many a member of staff have been tested no problem. What’s your point.
Your "nephew" would have told you that my original post was 100% correct....but you said it wasn't that way.

And if members of staff need to have a test....they are not allowed to work until they arrange a test and then get a negative result.....
And they have to follow exactly the same steps as everyone else......So my point is you don't know what you're talking about ....as usual.
