Covid - wrecking a family

Jim lives down our road in Thornton. He is 74, strong as an ox and still running his gardening business. His yellow pick up is a familiar site in the area. Two weeks ago Jim, his wife Pam and son Wayne were diagnosed with covid. Wayne's condition got worse and he was taken to the Vic where he suffered a massive heart attack and died last week, aged 45. Pam continued to have breathing problems and was also taken to the Vic. She wasn't in ICU and seemed to be ok. She died on Thursday.

God knows how Jim must be feeling.

That is terrible news, poor fellow he will need all his strength to get through the coming days, weeks and months, may also need help from any other family members and friends who no doubt will rally round.

Thats awful, very sad news.. and another wake up call to how serious this virus is..it certainly affects people of any age in different ways..and i'm not chancing my genes being the ones covid likes to destroy..masked up and laying very low. Keep safe everyone.

RIP OMG how incredibly sad & a real eye opener for the 'let It rip' lets all get down the pub merchants.
Unfortunately some people wont take it seriously unless they are directly affected.

That's a terribly sad story. Yet you still have to suffer all these people who won't wear a mask, it's all a scam and we are all being controlled in some way and covid is no worse than flu.

It’s wrecking many families. My cousin lost her husband with Covid in April...3 weeks ago she was diagnosed with early onset dementia.....yesterday her father, my uncle, died of Covid... take care out there everyone.

I think a lot more people now know someone who has been badly affected by the Virus, & that makes it more real... On the first wave, I knew no one directly or indirectly, now, I have a friend on a ventilator, & several work colleagues who have tested positive .... its getting close to home.....
I can only control my interactions, Little Lime is at school & Mrs Lime works in a Hospital, so high risks, eventually I assume we will be touched directly..... & being relatively fit for my age, seems no advantage... (although some may say, I'm a fat alcoholic, prone to football injuries)!!

Very sorry to hear that Newholland

Awful news, poor Jim and his wife and son.
Really hope he finds the strength to get through this.
I agree with Lime. I know of a death this week, aged late 40’s and my daughters mother in law was hospitalised , early 50’s. Seems more prevalent this time round.
Stay safe everyone.

Might be the same one my sister was telling me about, if he was 49. From same office. Shocking.

Terrible news, my heart goes out to Jim.

My mother-in-law who is very frail and in a care home showed some symptoms last weekend and has subsequently tested positive. We were thinking the worst but she is only showing symptoms of a mlid cold and has not got any worse. Fingers crossed that remains the case but goes to show how random the responses to this virus can be.

Lots of awful sad stories out there and not all people with the disease either.
Wife was talking to someone last week in hospital since the start of the pandemic he's lost his business and house now clinically depressed and from being a big bloke is now skinny.

Uncle got Covid last week he seems OK but only the week befote my Auntie had been diagnosed with Leukaemia and no cure totally distraught.

A friend of mine got it in march, 47 years old, ran 6 or 7 half marathons a year, played basketball and tennis every week, was in hospital for four weeks, two weeks being given oxygen although he was never actually ventillated. He got through it but even now he doesn't have full lung capacity back, and gets tired all the time, his heart beat since has been very erratic as well. I know a dozen people who have had it and been badly affected including a couple of teenagers, and i know a few who have had a positive diagnosis and have had no symptoms at all. Its the lack of real understanding that makes me err on the side of caution.

Yes it’s very sad and there have been lots of families who have been devastated in one way or another, by this awful virus.

Local cases and people we recognise or know do bring home the reality though and the need to each do our bit, which is important..

For the sake of our own sanity, however I do think it’s also very important to remember that it is still extremely rare to die of Covid and especially for people who are under 60 years of age and healthy...

As a resident of Thornton myself i know which pick up you refer to seen it often on the roads.
Absolutely gutted for this bloke and indeed his family it’s just tragic.

It`s just a little unfortunate that there are plenty of us who aren`t under 60 ! 🙄

I should add what a tragic story for the poor fellow and his family in Thornton. I think those who so irresponsibly ignore the rules should be sat down and graphically shown the consequences of their actions and what is happening to so many unfortunate families.

Yes, sorry for my clumsy response, I do appreciate that though 50’s. Obviously there is more risk for people over 60 and it’s important that we all do what we can to avoid making the problem any worse than it already is.

👍
