Crewe v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 17.10.20

I'm happy with that.
Yes it is only a point, but it is a massive step in the right direction.
We should have used the possession better, but that will come.
Add the 3 full internationals to the team (even though I was impressed with our back 4) and Dougall and we'll be a force to be reckoned with in this division.

Fair play to Critch for not throwing all of the new players in today; we've more than enough games coming up over the next few weeks where they will be blooded.

Ok, much better control in general.

Don’t knock Yates, worked so hard, will come good.

Interesting insight from Crewe commentary, we are clearly stronger than they’ve seen to date.
Yates come good? Don’t be ridiculous he’s dire. No control, one of the worst forwards I’ve seen for years. Critchley can’t think on his feet, no subs when 1 all away at one of the worst teams in the division. Shockingly anaemic performance. Have no faith in Critchley at all.

We played well there but really lack a cutting edge in front of goal - Hamilton has been nullified by doubling up on him, it's a shame KaiKai isn't on the other wing because that would present two problems.
We were very lucky not to go two down but at least we showed some resiliance - Crewe hanging on at the end
Well played, Williams MOM for me, Madine also had a great game.
We are not as bad as some on here say and maybe some of them even think that Critchley deserves another week in the job!

Some aspects very good, nice play but little cutting edge.

Stronger at the back because we didn't let them get there much but gain 1st lapse and they are in and score.

Poor in the final 3rd bit better with madine to hold it up, Yates trying but no quality, Hamilton hit and miss, being marked out and no one else stepping up to score much or offer much threat.

An improvement and a point away coming from behind, still need much improvement in final 3rd.

Why when we go for strikers, if were serious aboit going up, did we not cough up and pay for proven quality.

Not writing Yates off but so far not too impressed but we aren't creating the chances for them.

Er... no. He did switch wings for a while, but c'mon lad, gamble a bit!
Pleased with the point obviously. Disappointed we didn’t get the three we deserved.

I’m off before the Critchley Out Brigade start.
I'm off for the same reason.
A good performance that deserved more but a lack of cutting edge meant we didn't work their keeper enough.

That will come as the players play more together and build relationships

Overall very pleased and we will build from here, we will have setbacks along the way but we will grow stronger and stronger as we developed

Feels like a loss. Pleased Williams did okay - not impressed with Ward or Yates.
Shape looked a lot better and the players all worked hard. CJ was nullified again way to easily - he needs to hit the line and put afterburners on!
Madine had a good game and apart from one moment of bad defending Marv was good. Noticed we went long to him more often. No one had a bad game today which was pleasing just not sure about the effectiveness of Ward and Yates goal scoring instincts.

I understand people not wanting to play the new players immediately but when are we going to have a settled side that in the main can play week in week out ...we need to get his best 11 on the park as soon as possible and stick with them

55% possession

15 shots to 2 for Crewe

We should be getting more points from stats like that

I think we will improve as the games go on, just can be painful to watch with little end product.

With the defensive lads pushing for a place and the 2 midfields who look like they may be handy going off what we know, hopefully we can further improve.

Want to say we deserved all three but we just dont put the keeper under enough pressure. The forwards are all working independently of one another. saying that they were all busy, CJ had two players on him the whole game and we are not exploiting the space that creates. apart from the goal which was well taken i dont think Ward really did very much, but he was solid and busy again. Williams had a good game but he does give the ball away quite a lot, epki i thought looked much better. Good to get a point. onwards and upwards.

I agree. Williams was superb despite all the stick he got on here before the start -- good job he doesn't read this board. In fact, no one in that side let us down. Even Ward, who people love to knock, came good for us. Even Turton, who I love to knock was good! 😀

Then perhaps you should just not bother watching pal, it’s about putting the small positives together and seeing what we are capable of. It will just take time.

We’ll agree to disagree on Yates.

Granted we still look a little shot shy and wobbly at the back but for me we are showing signs of improving. Maxine was a real handful today, Williams was excellent and Robson continues to improve. Charlton at home on Tuesday and we have fresh legs a plenty to come in. Keep the faith #UTMP

Eh? Not sure about the effectiveness of Ward’s goal scoring instincts???

Whilst running into new positions and offering dummy runs may look impressive, without substance it's just so much prancing about.
It's alright a commentator saying that we're controlling the game but with no end product it's a waste of time.
We look pointless in the final third.

At least it’s a point, after all that possession must still do better, time to get those new players in and fingers crossed it gels and we get a cutting edge up front as well

The best assessment yet...I thought it was headed for nil nil but then we could easily have gone 3-0 down...1-1 fair result...need to get the subs on to try and win a game like that.

No patience, we’ve just spent a lot on him, and you obviously can’t see the little things he does. Take him out and you have nothing, no movement at all up front.
But I do see a lot of the little things he does. Yes, it helps the movement but I don't want him going looking for the ball when he should be in the mix waiting to receive the ball.
I suppose him being at Madine's side in a front three gives him more of a roving focus but we have other players to do that. I want Yates focussing on the goals.

As I said at half time, very pretty football.

We have little punch upfront, although a better ref may have helped, Madine was constantly fouled throughout the game yet the ref ignored it, with a more even ref, we may have had another shot on goal, or is that being too optimistic. Time and again we squandered decent movement to pass sideways or even backwards instead of getting it into the danger area, i.e. their box. The Crewe goal was a typical sucker punch, much like last week against Ipswich, we failed to defend and mark players out of the game. I must admit, I'm at a loss to see where we are going to win our next game.

ARGGGGGGG.

The match statistics say all that needs to be said - but steady boys, steady. Tradition has it that we wait until ten games have been played before casting a judgement. Six gone and two home games to come. Keep the faith.

This is going to sound like sour grapes, but the referees we have seen this year so far have largely been shit. there was a direct pull on a blackpool player as he was going through no action, and then a turton challenge for a 50-50 gets him a booking. Madine was being pulled, kicked and jumped on all game but didnt get a free kick in his favour until the 80th odd minute. there were times he was pulling both teams up and then letting quite nasty challenges go. rant over

Please don't say it's the same Nigel I'm thinking off. Had a few battles with him on FB of it is. He was a proper Oyston bumboy. Last name begin with an M?
The very same, yes we are all frustrated at the start we’ve made but some folk just live to moan about anything and everything, really makes my p*** boil!

Work in progress for me, big improvement still needed in terms of creating chances and just lacking that leadership and tenacity. It will come good. 👍🏻

We aren't creative enough and we are dodgy at the back. We have just brought in 2 cb a def mid and an attacking creative midfielder. It just takes time. There is a team there, we just need to tweak the starting 11 and add our new players into it. It will come. Confidence will also be playing a part.

Said it before, Jerry Yates is the new Joe Nuttall. Big fanfare when signed but unfortunately not very good. I don’t understand the love in with Yates, this time last year Nuttall was getting pelters but it’s like Jerry is immune to criticism. No goals is not a record a striker wants

Thought it was. The guy was a proper Oystonite. Makes sense now why he comes out with nothing but negativity and wants the team to fail. What a sad individual. And to be in bed with the Oystons. One of which was a convicted rapist. Wow. Morally bankrupt.

I'm grateful to read it. Thanks CP. My iFollow was juddery for long stretches so I didn't get a true perspective on Madine's complaints to the ref.

Played some good possession football again today, defensively looked better but we’ve got some good ammo on the bench to come in. Again lacked in the final third but l think that will improve as the team improves. l thought Williams was our MoTM and as I’ve said many times before he gets and does the dirty stuff very well.
