According to the local Rotherham press Tilt is due to miss the next four months after undergoing an operation on a persistent hip problem. This sounds very much like the injury he had when he played for us, which would never go away. It makes you think how he ever passed his medical when signing for Rotherham. It now looks like very good business on our part, to get in the region of £100,000 for a player who did not want to be with us any more and may have a career shortening injury. Apparently his problem is very much like that suffered by Andy Murray.

It’s a bit of a myth about players passing or failing medicals. A player is assessed which will involve all sorts of tests on general health, previous injuries and so on and then it’s up to the club to make a risk assessment based on how much the player will cost/earn against the likelihood of them having any issues in the future.

Clubs usually use the results of medicals to adjust what they will offer in a wage or a length of contract for example.

That said if the issue is similar to Andy Murrays then Rotherham have dropped a bollock there.

Agreed with that. I do often wonder however what happens when players sign for teams when the whole deal gets done in the last hour or two of the transfer market. Presumably skipped altogether?

Wasn’t Kyle Vassell crocked at the time when he signed for Rotherham ? If so, the medicals they undertake are indeed based on many factors.
