D.Mitchell

Funny thing is. We have a left back called James Husband. But he is playing with rubber ducks in the team bath having been played out of position (and also for defending shit) when TWO international centre halves were signed last week and not deemed good enough to be better than a short left back

Mitchell cannot defend! Should have moved Husband to LB ( his natural position) & played Ballard from start! Maybe would have been different. Then taking Madine off left nothing up front :(

Agree Mitchell definitely better going forward than defending. Did much better second half that being said, but first half was bad. He does look good attacking however, can go past players and I think has a goal in him too. Just needs some instruction defensively, once he stopped diving in he did better as he has pace. Some on the match thread calling him useless though which I find baffling.

I thought Mitchell was poor today defensively and offensively. He has the ability to drive at the opposition yet rarely does it and regularly makes sideways or backwards passes. Turton is clearly a more defensive player (and a solid and consistent one at that) but he’s doing fine getting forward and makes a lot of forward passes too so why isn’t Mitchell able to do the same ? He frustrated me on Saturday by not getting forward nearly enough and I’m not sure he deserves his spot... but thanks to Husband and Garbutts injury he’s got at least 3 games.

Totally agree with the O/P he‘s not a defender he’s a wing back at best.

I think if we played 3 centre backs he’d do well but this system isn’t for him.

I‘d really like to see a back four of Turton, Ballard, Viking/Epiteta and Husband. Husband can do a job for us IF he’s played in the right position.

We had 4/5 left backs, now none who can defend ( apart from husband when not suspended) pity Nathan Shaw loaned out? He looked decent pre season!

There is absolutely no way he is a full back!

His strengths seem to be running with the ball and his weaknesses definitely seem to be defending.

Been done about 3 times in the first 10 minutes!
Mitchell is a left half in a 442 with Husband at left back. Thats what we should be looking at.

We have wing backs so we have to play 532 but that means about 9 of our forward/wide players were the waste of a signing.

We would have been better with Evo as manager and Charlie as player coach 😉 (That is what I wanted when we were looking for a new manager)

Sending Shaw out on loan was another baffling, illogical decision. Him and Antwi: stars of pre-season. Shipped out / dropped like a hot potato.

For those saying it will all come good and give Critchley time, for me, this says it all. He is making really basic Sunday league football manager errors.

We thought we had 3 LB's and now we have none.
One long term injury
One long term suspension
and I have to agree Mitchell is beginning to look a liability in that position.
The potential is there but he looks far more comfortable going forward.
