Dale Taylor linked

Sounds like he’d be an excellent addition

If it’s season long they can’t recall him

And the winner of Todays Run To Thread is........sorry Bob can't get the envelope open, ah here we are, the winner is......(drum rolls)...... DALE TAYLOR.

Similar to what I posted in the transfer thread, everybody is getting far too carried away here.

Would love Sadler to prove me wrong, but surely absolutely no chance that this is a permanent?!

Ye but i cant see us going for that .

Could cause serious disruption to our promotion hopes .

Hopefully it’s a buy but season long is ok .
It's usually not something we can avoid. Assuming he's any good, and more than one club are interested, the parent club just insist. Look at Louie Barry with Stockport last year.

18 goal involvements in the league.

Wigan were the lowest scorers in L1 last season, so Taylor was involved in nearly half of their goals, which is pretty impressive by any standard.

Ryan Lowe's end of season comments...
"He's the kind of striker you want to work with, because he listens, and he learns."
The Latics boss is well aware there will be many clubs higher up the food chain that will have been alerted by his fine form this season.
"I'm 100 per cent sure Nottingham Forest would demand a huge fee if they are looking to sell him - and they probably still have hopes of him maybe playing at a higher level."

If the Florists were indeed looking to develop and keep hold of him, I'd have expected him to be loaned to a Championship club rather than another L1 club.
So maybe - maybe - it's a permanent.

If its a permanent deal then the Apter money is going straight back out on him. His fee would easily be £2m+. I've got a Wigan mate who wouldnt stop talking about this lad last season and lamenting that they would never be able to afford him. I'd love for this to come off.

Based on this, I would be astounded if we signed him either on a perm or on loan. Here’s hoping.

Wigan fans saying that they enquired about him and were told Forest want £2m for him, so you're bang on. Would be a club record fee. Im hopeful, but doubt it happens.

Will be a serious signing this, loan or permanent. I hope it’s a permanent deal as I believe that he will grow into a great player, one capable of playing in the championship at a minimum.

As giddy as we're all getting it would not represent good business sense to lay out £2m on him either.

We would be much better off signing 3 quality players for £600k-£700k each in terms of strengthening the squad.

If he can come in and get 20 goals and help us go up, he would be worth every penny. Saying that, I just think £2m is too high for us.
I know what you mean, we are so used to not paying high fees, it's ingrained in us, but the Apter money was not budgeted for and if it was 2.5 million as touted plus add ons then a deal worth 2 million for money we didn't know we were going to get would be well spent on a player like this.

Just seen a Forest fan saying they want £1.7m for him, so its dropping. 😂 Truth is we have no idea hwo much they want, its all just speculation.

Not a chance, but I could see us paying £1M plus add ons and a decent sell on. Maybe they still owe us some money from the Bowler transfer? But I agree, talk of £2M means it's either a loan or filed in the bin.
that’s a good point

I wonder if we are still owed money and they can do a deal with this player?

Don’t know if that’s even possible

If everything seemed right and all boxes were ticked I’d have no doubt SS would be willing to break our transfer record.

Speculate to accumulate and also show your intention. The Apter money was a surprise so why not buy a player with it who is likely to help get you promoted.
I get your point but it would be daft to lay all that money out on one player.

We've proven with the signings of Ennis and Brown that you don't have to spend big fees to get quality through the door if you recruit in the right way.

Granted, this guy seems in a different league to those 2 (especially in terms of resale value), but we would be far better off spending £2m across 3-4 additions rather than laying it all out on one player.

That being said, I won't complain if it happens as it would be a great signing!

A team aiming for top 2 always need a statement signing while other players we have signed are good this would be next level especially after losing Apter
