David Dunn: Blackpool players are starting to buy into my methods

David Dunn believes his Blackpool side are beginning to buy into the way he wants them to play.

The former Blackburn Rovers man takes charge of his third game as caretaker boss tonight(7.45pm), when the Seasiders take on League One’s bottom club Bolton Wanderers at Bloomfield Road.
While Dunn is still searching for his first win, Pool have delivered promising displays in their last two fixtures – and the interim boss is looking for more of the same.
He said: “I want the team to play with a high intensity, a high tempo and then I want us to get our passes in with some free-flowing, attacking football.
“That’s what I feel is the way to go, and from what you’ve seen from the lads in the last few weeks I think it’s fair to say they’re buying into it.
“Hopefully we can score a few more goals.
“I feel up until that final pass or that final movement in the box we’ve been very good.
“But we need to improve in that penalty box, whether it’s a run across a defender or a bit of movement, as well as that final ball.”
The Seasiders are still bedding in a number of new faces, with five of the 11 who started Saturday’s goalless draw at AFC Wimbledon only arriving at the club last month.
With so many new arrivals, Dunn admits it was always going to be a waiting game to get the best out of them.
“We made some good signings in January but they were always going to take a bit of time to gel together,” the caretaker boss said.
“I certainly see they’re doing that now and I’ve been very pleased with the performances over the last couple of weeks.”
Blackpool take on a Bolton side that are rooted to the foot of the table and appear destined to suffer a second straight relegation.
The Trotters were given a 12-point penalty at the start of the season, but even without that punishment Keith Hill’s men would remain in the bottom three.
Like Pool, Bolton are on a dismal run of form, having lost eight of their last 10 games.
Even so, Dunn says his charges must be at their best to get a much-needed three points on the board.
“They’re all tough fixtures,” he said. “I’ve watched Bolton a few times this season. They’ll be no pushovers.
“They try and play. They’ve got some good players and they’ve got some good experience in there.
“In every League One fixture, any team can beat anyone.
“I know Keith Hill and (assistant) Dave Flitcroft well, so we’ve got to be right at it.
“But I’ve got every confidence in the lads, and if they apply themselves right I feel we can be a good test for anyone that comes here.”

Think Dunn needs to go all out attack on this one and use the tried and tested route one style of play that Larry favoured , playing an 8 - 0 - 3 formation....bypassing the midfield.
The back 8 hoof it up to Maxwell ( playing as our fly keeper ) , with Howard and Sims capitalising on any hopeful knockdowns , giving them both the chance to play Tika - Taka and get it within 2 yards of Boltons goal line before Maxwell buries the ball with a vengeance ( showing da Fonz how it should be done ).

Leave Madine and Groot at home to recover, if ones not fully fit and the other is carrying a slight injury....don’t want any more nasty defenders bumping into them and hurting them anymore than necessary , do we.!
Keep Nuttall on the bench ( as we need someone reliable to lay out the cones and pick them up afterwards during the pre match warm up )
Then with 5 minutes to go, bring on Fonz, as we’ll need someone to applaud the fans after a scintillating 6 - 0 drubbing of the scum.

In all seriousness, throw caution to the wind, shoot on sight at every opportunity....with an early goal the floodgates could open, Bolton crumble and we win majestically.

What have we got to fear , or indeed lose, Dunny ?

Attack , Attack , Attack 👌

Reasons to be cheerful Part 4!

The biggest disappointment on Saturday and in general this season is the lack of intelligent movement from our strikers. Gnando aside, we rarely make near post runs or anticipate cut backs from our wide players. I note Madine's goal against Bristol but there were several similar crosses against Wimbledon with neither Fonz or Madine close to it. I really hope this is an area of focus on the training ground as I feel we are doing a lot more right through defence and midfield when it comes to passing and movement.

Virtue being in the starting XI seemed to drive the midfield forward up towards the strikers far more than when Spearing plays. Spearing sits so deep there is often no option to link up to the forwards without one of them coming back leaving the other isolated. This is probably one of the things Dunn spoke about when he said he's trying to get them playing in the certain way he wants.

“Hopefully we can score a few more goals."

erm 2 games 1 goal! do they actually think about what they are saying in interviews?

Having a fox in the box ( Lineker style would obviously be ideal ) , but I’d rather one or two of our younger midfielders became a ghost in the box ( never to be forgotten, Mr. Clarkson )

All out gung ho attack? Why not? Very little to lose (apart from the match lol) Would make for a more entertaining match, if all an sundry were shooting on sight. That’s if BWFC actually turn up for the match. According to their official site, they (at the moment) reckon they’re playing us on Saturday afternoon. Watch this space. 🤔

I do hope you disinfected your phone/tablet/pc after visiting the dark side of the internet that they call bwfc.co.uk, Ade. ☠️

Sorry don’t want to sound negative but buying into what, we have played some very average sides and our return has been very poor to say the least - In SS I trust but we need some wholesale changes for next year, a lot of this squad will not see us putting together a promotion push (oh and our best players recently are our loans who will not be with us next year)

He's trying to instill a more positive style of football, which considering how long we've been playing turgid, sideways football isn't going to happen over night. He probably thinks if he can get them playing a more attacking style, and can get a few half decent results, when the new boss is finally named he may still have a job.
He isn't a miracle worker, this team/squad has been all over the place for months.
In Dunn's favour, he's nothing to lose.

I much prefer his presser's that miserable old Grayson. He can see what is needed, I hope he gets the chance to get it right and the players perform for him. I would love him to do well for the rest of the season and then maybe he can throw his hat in the ring, considering they are looking for a head coach, not a manager.

I would like to see Nuttall get a go tonight with Madine, or in place of him if Madine still has a niggle. I think the new manager and his tactics will suit him.
