DEMITRI MITCHELL

I think this lad has had a rough ride all season and is the unlucky man in the squad. He looks dangerous when given rein to maraud up the lines at pace and with some increased confidence he could be a big player...his pace is a big asset that we havent used properly and he has plenty of skill...I dont know why he doesnt get more game time in a position in front of Garbutt...I think the two would link up well and create a big threat...he can also play on the right and would be a good link with Gabriel although that would be very attacking

Had some serious injuries in his short career and is being managed accordingly

Critch’s way is for inverted wingers playing as 3rd or 4th strikers when in possession.
The job of full back is whipping in crosses from wide position.
Critch prefers Garbutt or Hubby at LB so as third choice LB he is then fighting it out for the RF position against CJ, Embo, Ward as KaiKai is his preferred inverted LF coming inside.
We took a punt signing Dimi on a free so he was always going to be back of the queue- if either Garbutt or Hubby leave he might find himself back as a considered left back again or back up RF
He’s certainly got potential but needs game time at this level and not academy level.

Didn't know he'd actually made an appearance for Man United, last game of the season against Crystal Palace in 2017. Just gandered at his wikipedia page.

He seems much better suited to playing as a winger, rather than a left back. He clearly causes problems for defenders with the amount of fouls he wins.

Seems to me that you would have to leave out KaiKai to accommodate Mitchell on the left or change the formation.
He was doing well on the right side of the 4-2-3-1, in a midfield three of Kaikai - Embo - Mitchell.

I think with our injury crisis we've had to scrap that formation in recent weeks (especially so yesterday due to Embleton being ineligible) and revert back to the 4-4-2 which I feel hinders us going forward - you have to put Kaikai out wide where he isn't as effective and play two defensive minded midfielders centrally. We looked miles better in that 4-2-3-1 featuring Mitchell, hope we can get back to it soon.

I remember him at left back being ripped apart by the Ipswich winger Williams at Bloomfield road. Always appeared susceptible to speedy wingers and did not look a fullback. On either wing he looks a completely different player. Frightens defences when he runs at them and looks a decent prospect. This could allow Kaikai a more central role.

I think the problem yesterday was that we didn't see enough of KaiKai ( which is not unusual) as he was playing too wide. Mitchell, I thought played well and was a threat, which should have at least lead to the sending off of their player.
At the end of the day, the referee created problems for us with his abysmal decisions, which started with the one where he gave a free kick until Simms missed the goal and he gave a goal kick instead.
When most of the decisions were going against us, their players were allowed to use illegal means to gain the upper hand, which they took advantage of.
My only worries for the away game are the referee and the fact that when we scored we then defended too deep.

I thought he had a really good game yesterday and defended really well when he had to and he has frightening pace going forward. I. hope he has a long stay with us as he is going to get better.

I like Mitchell on the right. He can either turn back to cross or take a cut inside at pace.
Kaikai is better cutting in from the left. He could be a brilliant player but he needs to be trained how to weigh a forward pass. Too many of his through balls yesterday would have tested a greyhound.

He has pace to burn which is a huge asset, he also has quick feet so seems to glide past defenders, a perfect example being the non-yellow card incident yesterday. I suspect he will be an absolute diamond if he can avoid injuries and build up his confidence.

Very rapid, love watching him run at defenders, puts the effort in tracking back. Also a decent shot. Much better in a forward role.

When he signed he was described as a left back, but early appearances suggested he wasn't a defender at all, so he's being reformulated to his original Man Utd youth position of winger. He doesn't look like the finished article at all to me, I guess Critch and co saw raw material that they could work with. Still learning, but gradually contributing more and growing in confidence. His pace is useful in the current line up, especially when Gabriello isn't playing. But I think there's a reason that United tried to convert him to a wing back, and then released him. He's doing well for us now and next season will be a big season for him, I think, his moment to push on and forge a career. He came to the right club.

Here is a different perspective...he has been the unluckiest player at the club and deserved so much more game time...he is brought in v Sunderland and we win and then he is the one dropped (AGAIN)...he must be totally pissed off when he saw how poorly Kai Kai and Embleton played last night and I really dont see him staying. Who could blame him for wanting to leave because what he needs is game time in the first team in this division. Some of the managers decisions are just plain wrong and his treatment of Mitchell is one of them. Another is constantly picking his mate Turton in front of Jordan Gabriel when Gabriel is different gravy...bizarre.

I'm more than happy to leave selection decisions to the architect of our recent 16 game unbeaten run, Neil Critchley.
I think that Mitchell will stay at the club, he has played a small part in our success and may well get more game time if we do not replace Embleton in the summer. Turton has improved under Critchley and IMO is a better defender than Gabriel.

The turton argument falls down in situations like last night where we're playing against two banks of defence and when he gets into their 3rd, he doesn't have a single clue what to do. And generally breaks down our own attacks by having to go back to the centre backs. He wasn't the worst on the pitch last night, far more candidates. He and Garbutt weren't helped by how poor the movement was from our widemen/CMs. Kaikai marked himself last night. Never an option. He needs dropped/resting.

for me his best performances have been on the left where Kaikai plays. I don't like inverted wingers, to me its an admission of poor coaching from an early age of not encouraging players to use both feet. Give him more game time on the left and work on him shooting with his right. I don;t think he enjoys defending enough to play full back Next year he could be a star performer with help from the coaching staff.

Not sure what Embleton was doing on the left last night, his best position is in the hole. Kaikai clearly needs a rest.

I would like to see Garbutt in front of husband on the left (a position he played effectively at Ipswich) and Mitchell on the right.

Not sure why everyone raves about Mitchell, yeah he’s rapid, but his final ball is truely one of the worst in the squad - like his work rate, but attacking he’s a bit of a headless chicken

I disagree, but that’s what footballs all about. Game of opinions

Mitchell has a lot of potential but is very raw. His physical attributes are phenomenal but his decision making, his passing, crossing and shooting all leave a lot to be desired. KaiKai is technically better, whilst he lacks judgement and 9/10 seems to make the wrong decision, he does possess the passing, crossing and shooting ability that Mitchell currently doesn’t. KaiKai though is far too comfortable at this club and we’re getting 10 minute cameos every other game from him. His poor performances for 90% of his time at the club is being overshadow by some good work in the other 10% of his time on the pitch. Personally think we should look at getting rid and bringing someone else in. A less able player who plays more consistently would ultimately do a lot more for us and our team than KaiKai has done this season. KaiKai performing the way he does still leaves himself with fairly good statistics (goals, assists, points won as a result etc) but when he’s not performing it lessens other players opportunities as they’re having to carry his weight. That in turn means less goals and assists from the team and ultimately less points on the board.

IMO Mitchell is a fabulous athlete but a very average footballer. Nothing he does down the right ever seems to come to anything and his decision making is also poor.

He's only involved as a squad player due to CJ being out and I doubt he has a long term future in Critch's plans other than as a squad player. Has a great attitude and will be a good player for someone in the lower echelons.

Couldn't agree more, definitely something to

Turton is very definitely NOT a better defender than Gabriel,
Just watch the goals we concede. The Lincoln match both goals were conceded because Turton was not quick enough to close down and easily gets closed down himself when he is in possession, that's why he continually passes backwards.
Gabriel is so much better, is a better athlete and does not get bullied, that's why his opponent ends up fouling him to stop him.
I will however admit I think Turtons game going forward is showing signs of improvement.
He just doesn't possess the skills and attributes that Gabriel has.

Wait till he scores that goal I told you about

I like Mitchell,he really should of started at Rochdale,he didn’t do much wrong against Sunderland but my god he’s very one footed,he just can’t use his other foot which will always work against him plus he’s very lightweight.

Agreed - he played ok v Sunderland and should have got their left back sent off. Given that Critch has been so loyel to performers I would have kept him in the starting line up especially how absent Embleton became.
