Proper cowardly whack with the baton from the copper there imho. Preston fan or not, I don’t like seeing that sort of thing….pathetic 👎
But why wave the copper on saying come on in such an intimidating way?

He could have easily backed down and walked away, got what he deserved for me for being so aggressive.

I noticed he was the only one being aggressive so rightly got a whack he soon calmed down afterwards so it obviously worked.

Who knows why he was doing that... Maybe he'd had too much to drink.... Maybe some preceding incident had provoked a reaction. It really doesn't matter...He's not the one being paid to act professionally and he's not using a dangerous weapon that risks serious (and even life changing) injury...

I'm probably not the best person to give a balanced opinion in any case as I'm really not a fan of police people.

I think you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned drink. 👍

So it's alright for baldy to act in a threatening aggressive manner to the police in public. Totally got what he deserved and could easily receive a football ban if he continues in that manner throughout the season.

The bald idiot is Waggy ( I don’t know his proper name ) one of Wigans original Goon Squad , he’s a very angry man with more bans than Roy Keane - shame the copper isn’t allowed to wack him across the chops

No... I'm not sure I said it was alright for him to behave that way... And no... He didn't get what he deserved at all... In fact you've got absolutely no idea what provoked him to react that way, which if my own experience is anything to go by is very likely something idiotic on the part of the Police... That situation could have been dealt with differently and professionally and without the need for a violent, unnecessary and potentially life changing assault.

And you deal with plebs like this on a regular basis?

It was a short video and nobody knows the background of what happened over a period of minutes or what was said.

'Cowardly whack'...so you'd advocate a bobby having a fight with idiots like this rather than control a situation without any unnecessary injuries to either?

'life changing assault' 😅

Yes… Attend Football Matches regularly throughout the season and the plebs in blue are generally out and about causing mayhem.

You’re right nobody knows what was said, but harsh words don’t justify an action that could cripple an old bloke for life.

It’s fairly obvious he just needed to be calmed down rather than lashed out at.

Idiotic and antagonistic act by the a policeman, which could have resulted in a life changing injury or escalated the situation.

Fair point, he actually looks like he's complaining that he's on the verge of a coronary.
There’s clearly something happened to the poor old chap. He’s evidently fuming …. Something’s got his goat.

I’d have just let him have a few minutes to calm down and then asked a female officer to guide him away for a sit down… Maybe offer him a nice sweet cup of tea.👍

He still looks game … although his mate, the bloke who comes across to tell him to calm down looks a right unit !! 😃

Standard GMP practice is to wheel out the ones in body armour and balaclavas to totally over react.

I think your last words sum it up.

I'm not defending the cop, but we don't know what verbals / threats were being made by Thanos the nobber.
I'm told that cops are taught to use certain 'strikes' to defuse a situation. It's all a matter of proportionality.
If he feels hard done by, he can lodge a complaint and the video evidence will be used.
Simple lesson - don't be aggressive towards other people 😡, especially the cops with metal batons ouch!

Cops have enough weed in their lost and found so he could have been offered some.

We don't (and in all probability won't ever) know the prior events or what was said by either party (mainly due to the mind bending camera being panned in and out, and the operator shaking like Wigan had just been hit by an earthquake), but taking the footage as a whole, it does seem like the follically challenged chap (I can say that, 'cos I have the same hairstyle....!) is the only one amongst the small group who was suffering from a severe case of drinking on an empty head.

Immediately before the baton strike (which landed more or less in the 'green' zone of the thigh muscle, which is the preferred area for a warning strike, as opposed to one over the head...) both the angry gentleman, and the plod adjust their stance, with the aforementioned baldy clenching his fist down the right side of his body and turning his body slightly to be able to throw a punch, and plod made movements with his baton on his upper arm.

In the end, bar the blood pressure of Mr Neanderthal going through the roof, nothing other than gesturing took place.
The threat to plod dissolved as quick as it started, and caveman turned slightly to his right and clearly appears to have second thoughts about punching plod.

For me....... that threat was was over, and plod should have held his ground, and kept his baton in the high carry.
It doesn't come across on camera too well though really when he did the opposite..

Saw nothing wrong with ‘the whack’ guy was being an aggressive prick. Total embarrassment of a man, should have enjoyed his day at the footy, gone home or back to the pub after the match instead of wanting to goad away fans/police
