Discrimination in English football

Has anyone else seen this report? I must say that it surprised me a bit, in the sense that I don't come into contact with this kind of behaviour all that often. I'd like to think that it is just that football fans are a microcosm of what happens in wider society. But when you see the antics of organisations like the Football Lads Alliance you do wonder.

Reading this board, it doesn't surprise me one bit. Just look at some of the justifications around not supporting BLM for starters.

Last overtly racist chant I heard was briefly sung by one person only ( well-oiled ) at Coventry ( Brum ) away
I regret not tackling him though to be honest I was initially stunned by what I heard and then he'd moved on so I would have had to chase him down
Think if he'd sat near me and I heard again I would have
Agree about the ' gay bars ' chant - and add to that the ' Rather have a Tower ... '
It's just cringeworthy

Sorry to disappoint you lads but there is far less racism in football these days than say the 80's.

There are far more black players and they are accepted.

One instance of racism is far too many but with all the problems that football faces, I find it very strange why so many Blackpool supporters continually ram the subject of racism down our throats.

In the last 10 years, I have witnessed one instance of racism at Bloomfield Road, DJ Campbell came on as a sub for Blackburn against us and a chap in the North shouted, "Campbell, you black b@stard", there was an immediate silence and then members of the crowd let it be known to the chap who shouted that it was not acceptable to behave like that.

There is not a big problem of racism at our club and I don't know why people are pretending that there is.

When it comes to the gay bars chant, I can honestly say that as a lesbian (most of my friends are LGBT as well) I dont know anyone that is offended by it. Most of us just think it's funny and in some cases accurate. I've found that most of the people that usually get offended by chants like that are getting offended because they think that the LGBT community is offended by it and get on their high horse wanting to be white knights for us. We're not offended (at least no one I know is), it isn't derogatory and is meant as a bit of fun. If people started chanting about faggots or queers then I would have a problem. I do agree about the rather have a tower chant though.

Edit; I used the word offended way too many times in this.

The Kickitout people tend to be subjective and pursue their own agendas, indeed it would be nice to post why Lord Ousley left as its head last year.
There were allegations of bullying and abuse of staff and I've made a complaint concerning alleged anti-Semitic comments from one of the OPs National Council colleagues.

Interesting that the OP referenced the Lads Alliance which seems to be intimidatory and rather selective, where possibly he's targeting a rival Blackpool fan and another Seasiders' forum.

As a matter of fact a Football Supporters Association caseworker did reference the Lads Football Alliance as 'are not real football fans' which included the Muckers who stood at the town cenotaph* during those protests.

*its on the Prom next to North Pier if you're interested BRR.

Setting Plumbs' usual falsehoods aside, it's a huge over-reaction to a fairly mild observation. I did start by saying that the findings sounded a bit counter-intuitive.

And how an observation about the FLA fighting all and sundry at anti-BLM rallies translates into an attack on Blackpool fans is beyond me. I see DSOL and OG appear to have fallen for it, so I suppose it's job done for the Leeds fan. A Leeds fan who only seems happy when he is setting one Blackpool fan against another. Pity that.

Marvellous stuff. Bring Leeds into it when you've nowhere to run.

Hoisted by your own petard as they used to say at the Tower of London and tarring all the FLA with the same brush including your own fans.

Fairly mild observation?.....totally rubbishing the FLA twice in this thread and labelling the organisation as racist........it’s an opinion on your part which is up to you but it’s not a mild observation ........assume you’ll mention Man Utd if you reply?

I don’t support BLM but I’m not remotely racist Wiz.........why would anyone need to “justify” not supporting any Group btw??...genuinely don’t understand why that could ever be the case?
Only becomes justified when people attack it which happened after a tweet appeared on the BLM account, demonstrating that there was a malicious and contrived agenda behind it.
Nothing to do with the genuine issue of discrimination with black people but something a tad sinister.

I'm surprised BRR fell for it 😀

There's a few who have been obviously trying to justify racist views under the guise of trying to make the BLM movement into something it's not.
I don't doubt you're not a racist btw

No problem with Blood and Plumbs posting comments Robbie. They are good guys who care about football which I thought you would support. We don't want this forum to be a closed shop Shirley.

Wiz, I don’t have to justify whether I am or am not Racist ......anyone with a modicum of common sense or a whisp of intelligence clearly isn’t going to be racist......my issue is how if someone doesn’t “take the knee“ or “raise the fist” they are racist/non supportive.......what have we come to When wankers are “demanding” that I must do this or show that.....fuck them all to death......I live in a FREE Country and the commie cnuts aren’t getting the thin edge of the wedge in cheaply with me.....I ain’t racist or homophobic at all.....I disagree with sexual self identification ....that’s where I am

Also what is actually wrong with being a Leeds fan? BRR seems to genuinely think this is a crime, an insult. He uses it as a tactic to negate anything that a “Leeds” fan may say and to try to turn other posters against that person...he’s used the tactic many times before on others......it’s a bit childish tbh for a man who watches University Challenge

No answer forthcoming...thought not but expected a supercilious bit of nonsense at least
He'll be watching reruns of University Challenge-the ones where Cambridge won with home produced contestants.

In black and white hosted by Bamber Gascoigne of course 😁
