Do loan players ever come pre-season?

Other than a few days before a season starts, do loans ever come at this stage of the pre-season?

I think so. Just been having a scan of movements among our Championship rivals and quite a few of them have announced loan deals already. I would have thought those loanees will be involved in pre-season games to get to know playing systems and styles.

Yes, but it tends to be senior professionals going to the bigger clubs, usually on substantial wages, and not the academy players we tend to borrow.

If the players 100% not in the plans of their parent club and the loans with a view to sell then they tend to happen pre-season. The best of the academy talent and fringe players don’t tend to leave on loan until the end of pre-season as their parent clubs need to finish their own business and see where their players can fit in.
Would be a real kick in the nads of you loaned out your brightest academy prospect to then miss out on your targets and suffer a spate of injuries in the run up to the season and then not even have a player for that position.

Yes. If it’s someone who is clearly never going to get near the lending team’s squad they can go early, like the lad Bradley who went from Liverpool to Bolton. Promising but they’ve just brought in a RB from Aberdeen who will be miles ahead.

If it’s someone the manager wants a good look at, who will see some pre-season action, then obvious it’s going to be later.

Swings and roundabouts and more complicated than some people care to realise.
