Do we have any Ipswich links?

Am struggling to think, maybe because of the geography, many links that we have with Ipswich Town? Never ventured further than Colchester myself and so haven't done Portman Road - believe it's a nice town though?

Can't think of any player links apart from Mick Hill who played on loan for us in the Anglo Italian in 1972. I think he played and scored
in the Lanerozi Vicenza 10 0 match.

Doing a search on Ipswich, I came across this about Eric Lazenby Gates:

"Gates' career came to an end in a bizarre circumstances, after the Carlisle United manager had firstly annoyed Gates by making him travel to Brunton Park to catch the team coach for a midweek away fixture rather than catch it as it passed his home some sixty miles away, Gates then found himself to be on the bench. With only a few minutes of the match remaining on the cold wet night the manager told Gates to get warmed up, with no further ado Gates rose from the bench to proceed straight down the tunnel, stripped off and jumped straight into the bath. " 🤣

Darren O'Dea had played for Ipswich. He made his debut for us against Bournemouth when we lost 6 1 and he gave away a penalty.

David Norris played for both. He also got in some bother for his handcuff celebration when he scored a winner against us

Colchester is actually further than Ipswich if you are travelling from the North West.

Ipswich used to be a nice town but was heavily bombed in the war and a lot of its character lost. There are pockets of the town that are still nice but it's not somewhere I ever want to spend any time.

The surrounding villages and coast are lovely though.
