I’ve got an ongoing problem my doct are aware of, but is getting worse. This afternoon I called to get an appointment and was told they only do telephone appointments and the first one will be 30th May. The doctor I’m seeing finished at 2.30 today. What on earth is going on, covid has ended, so what’s the reason for not being able to get face to face appointments, it can’t be lack of staff, they’ve still got the same number of doctors.

We have the same problems here. I think they've got used to the idea of not working for a living. 😂

Welcome to the world of privatisation, there's few independent surgeries left, most are now part of a company such as The Practice, which is actually US owned, a company called 'Centene', Corbyn and others protested against it buying UK surgeries, but he's a nasty commie don't forget.

Mrs Lytham is registered at Bloomfield and can easily wait an hour on the phone, they're ** abysmal.

If anyone can get registered at St Anne's Old Links then go for it, they're one of the last decent surgeries left.

1. There aren't the same number of doctors. Many retired during the pandemic, especially GPs.
2. Covid hasn't gone away, despite what Boris tells you. Jonathan Van Tam unable to get his knighthood today as he's contracted covid.

If they are privatised then they should have KPI’s and get rewarded accordingly or not if they don’t meet them

Around Garstang there has been an explosion of new housing and of course no additional services as ever.
So somewhere in the region of 2000 new residents but same schools and doctors.
There are a couple of new bars, restaurants and take away places so what’s to worry?

It's the same in the Wombourne area of the West Midlands, Chunky. Roads I haven't cycled for a while have houses springing up all around, no extra services though.

TBF i went to the walk in on Whitgate Drive a couple of weeks ago, Dr there referred me for further assessment, received call that afternoon for an appt the next day. Then referred for MRI scan which I’ve only had to wait 2 weeks for.

Excellent all round really.

Blimey, think I’ll move to Whitegate Drive

The walk in is really good, it's run by BTH though.

I'll let posters make their mind up whether he was poorly or not 🙂

I think the professor has answered for us:

I got Covid, so I wasn't able to get to the Kidderminster game and I wasn't able to get to the Fylde game either.

"My entire family went but I couldn't make it."

Instead he celebrated at home "dancing around the living room with a beer".

He added: "This shows us that much as we'd all like to think this pandemic is over and Covid has gone away, it hasn't gone - it's something we are going to have live with for many years to come.

"We just have to try and be careful and protect each other."

"Be careful and protect each other"?

It's exactly these types of platitudes that have trashed the health of the nation. I just find it crass for him to come out with that after dancing about pissed in his front room with the deadliest disease known to mankind ever, but each to their own I suppose. I won't be following his top tips whatever it actually means in practice 🤷‍♂️
It’s not gone away mate, after 5 beers and dancing round the living room he felt tired.

Could be long covid 🤪

It’s mental still isn’t it.

Yep ten million UK population growth in 30 years and we don't build the infrastructure for these extra people but it's OK to take their tax but leave schools and hospitals at breaking point.

As I mentioned above, this is why the service is crap.

It was a very interesting programme Lytham, a lot of information given that was extremely worrying. I hadn't realised that it was during the tail end of the Labour Government (2007) that the rules had changed. The practice I use is run by affinity care and it's been noticeable how things have changed since before the Pandemic to the present time. I'm awaiting an appointment on 27th June to check me for cardiovascular disease, which has been identified due to a recent scan. A worrying wait.

It's a scandal and a surprising amount of the NHS's current woes can be traced back to New Labour.

Corbyn was protesting about it still just last year, it didn't really make the news of course.

You can name any sector of healthcare and this crap is happening.

There has been a big move since the 80s away from the independent business in the healthcare sector, not only with doctor surgeries, but
chemists, dentists, and opticians. In 1984 the Optical market was 84% independent business and the market leader was Donald and Aitchinson Opticians with 14%. Now the UK market is dominated by large multiples such as Specsavers, Boots, and Vision Express which is owned by the much more powerful EssilorLuxottica which has 30% of the Global Optical Market.
In the UK the independents are down to less than 7% and falling year after year. This trend is even happening in the funeral sector as well.
Eventually, there will be 2 or 3 companies controlling the entire healthcare sector of the world.

In response to Mats experience , I phoned the docs this morning at 0810 unable to get through for the fist ten minutes, gave the receptionist the details of why I was in need to speak to a doctor, (abdominal swelling) no not through beer etc, and requested a phone chat'
He phoned me at 0830 and was asked to go in to see him at 0930. After a twenty minute examination he could not pin point the exact problem consequentlhy e mailed the oncology dept for further advice, I am now awaiting the outcome.
I have no idea the surgeries/population ratio in Blackpool but here there are three sugeries covering 36,000 patients.

Nobody is talking about this problem!! When doctors finish at 14.30, they toddle off to do private consultations and work. A lot of doctors are only working half days, and half weeks.
