He was more a victim of Critchley`s assessment as the season progressed that as a striker he was increasingly not good enough to start or indeed even come on at all sometimes despite our lack of a regular goal scorer.
That's just not true... Crichley rotated throughout the season ... There was no change from start to end in terms of how he dealt with Yates.

We clearly need a striker and the clubs attempt to sign Bishop and Simms show that Appleton feels the same. That and a right back so Connolly can move to his best position in CM.

If we achieve those two I feel we will be good to go.
Yes ,particularly disappointed that we couldn`t signed Simms who might well have made the difference. We currently have no natural goal scorers though I still retain a faint hope that Lavery might just regain the form he showed early last season but I`m not holding my breath.

We lost the game in midfield. Far too lightweight with no one putting a foot in. Bullied out of it.

Having said that, if Bowler scores at the start of the second half, it's a different game.
Carey getting a free ride for me at the moment. He either need a goal or need to create something of note. Looking pretty on the ball in that position just won’t do I’m afraid. only an opinion before the haters go on the attack.

No he started the season as a frequent starter but in the latter end of the season he was more often on the bench. I haven`t got the stats but I have a strong impression that was the case.

Yep our midfield today was poor but as I said last week if your to play a 4-3-3 your need a holder Fiorini isn't that.
Also the idea of that system is your full backs push on and give you width majority of the time today it was just a flat back four until MA changed it second half but still the link up to our forwards was non existent.

Carey is another victim of the whole ‘player suddenly turning into a world beater the less he plays’ thing.

He showed a few glimpses of brilliance last season when the side had a decent game, however he’s still very green as far as Chsmpionship football is concerned and ideally needs to be brought on alongside better (more experienced) players…

He’s not suddenly going to become the answer to our Midfield issues that’s for sure. He’s a player who I expected would be in and out for at least another season …

If he’s going to make it at this level, now is the time to step up. If he cant, that’s fine. I can accept that, let’s just stop putting him on a pedestal

Indeed it is. Let's not forget that Quitch wasn't all bad.
There was probably only one change that we could have made today and that was Dougall for Carey. Tactically I'd have played Kenny and Matty as No.6's and given Fiorini a bit more freedom as the No.8. Stoke made the pitch look very narrow which didn't suit Bowler and negated his impact.
TTV packed up here in Albania on about 80mins so I couldn't see the impact that Patino made.
Virtue was awful v reading and was worse today...no more chances...not fit enough not quick enough and not good enough for the Championship

He's only 21 and made the transition from Non league... He player 490 minutes over 11 games last season (an Average of 45 minutes a game)... I'm not quite sure where the hype or the pedestal has come from (as I say it's the magic 'he's not played for a while so he's suddenly a genius' factor IMO)... He has ability but he's a season away from being a full time edition IMHO.

Issue in first half was no press allied to being half a yard slower than Stoke to the ball - simple to fix but wasn’t. Second half quicker to ball and pressed and looked better.

Fiorini was awful by and large - didn’t want the ball, hid and when he did get it he didn’t look composed and did little with it. Contrast with Pautino who demanded it and was always available. Thompson was raw, poor early on but stuck at it. Connolly is not a rb. Carey is a liability in his own half but does offer something going forward (but please shoot !).

Stoke got on top for the last 15 but thought they were bang average for much of the game. That said they did score decent goals and could have had more, but we enabled all their chances by our mistakes, lack of closing, nor tracking runs etc.

So, need a rb for next week and swap in Charlie and Dougall for Fiorini and Virtue. As for up front, Fu** nose. Canadian kid looked tricky, Jerry worked his bolux off and Josh different class.,

It’s game 2. No need to panic.

No, Appleton kept faith with a Winning side.
Something Chrichley never did.
That winning side wasn’t good enough and probably didn’t deserve to beat reading. Virtue was poor against reading and starts today and another poor display from him, I like sonny carey and I think he will be a player but again he’s not quite doing it either, patino should have gone straight in today, he’s our best player.

Usual emotional incontinence which follows most defeats
Not sure how this team are going to pan out ,I remain hopeful Beesley will come good
Agree with have a few good league 1 players ( some who are often lauded on here) but do we have an average championship budget ? No.

Early doors ,Reading game may have turned some into giddy kippers but I thought we did well to win

Objective is to maintain league status and I'm still quietly confident but as old Van sang " there will be days like this" and a good few

Not gonna argue with that, the problem is a lot of pool fans him have down as the next coming. That he may be and I hope he is, but he’s not ready. IMO.

Probably the last 10 games really where we used him less frequently... He started 3 out of the 10, which started after a good performance vs Reading... He then came on for 7 Minutes V's Stoke and made the goal 4 Minutes vs Sheff United and then started in the home drubbing vs forest.

Right lets get some perspective in today’s game we we’re simply not good enough in key area’s of the pitch with the exception of the defence. When Big Gaz went off and moving Jezza into the no.9 spot it weakened the spine of the team, although we played and passed the ball better in the 2nd half we were always 2nd best.

We lost, yes I’m disappointed but still love my BFC 😘😘

striking difference between today and last week was the start we made. Last week started very well got an early goal and it gave the players confidence. And we had something to fight for. Today was totally different and we were second best from the kick off. We had creative players like Fiorini and Carey who simply weren't getting on the ball enough but didn't seem to want to either.

I'd be very surprised if after that that MA doesn't know exactly waht and who he wants.

At 2.01 I knew we would lose.

Why’s patino not starting when he’s the best player in the stadium ?

We need Callum back in CDM ASAP

Fiorini not good enough
Virtue not good enough

We need a striker that can score

Carey had to score first half to make it 1-0 Blackpool

Bowler had to score second half to make it 1-1
And Blackpool not good enough - I've heaqrd and seen enough through the summer to say here and now ....it'll be a miracle if we stay up without major improvements or even with !

Poor game overall but did he not cross to Yates in front of a open goal where the fajntist touch would have possibly changed the game?

Maybe, I want him to succeed, on his own talent. A goal here and there wouldn’t go a miss, start to carry and push the rest of them.

3 points last week simply painted over the cracks, a poor Reading team battered us second half. Today we were really poor other than a 10 minute spell second half, we didn't have a single shot on target, we were overrun in midfield and Appleton didn't bother changing tactics.
Reading deservedly beat Cardiff today.

He has to play Dougall as the 6 and maybe another holding midfielder with him, both games so far we got done in the middle of the park.

So you don’t play someone incase they get injured ? Then why bring him on at all. What a stupid post don’t even know why I’ve replied to such nonsense.
You replied to the post because I gave you a number of reasons why he did not start. Strange that the manager thought exactly the same as me . So don't answer stupid post in your view because it means I don't have to explain the managers thinking to slower Blackpool fans.

Yeah and it was WRONG we lost the game 2-0. So the manager agreed with you and we lost well done, congratulations what a manager you would make.

He did make that cross but did he have to put that much pace on it?
Probably being a bit critical but he puts less on it and Yates comfortably nods it in.

** hell!! Throwing in the towel already? Plus Fiorini is NOT a holding midfielder, he should have played in front with Dougall starting (who coincidentally isn't good enough for the Championship) 3 good signings and we'll be fine, it's going to take some time that's all.
He's proven he's good enough for us and Barnsley, give it a rest.
