MrsDP and I were sorting out some cupboards etc.
We found a sheaf of papers, which I didn't know I had.
It was about Don McLeans' great song 'American Pie'.
Went through the whole song line by line explaining what every line means.
Too long to write on here, but very interesting. 10 foolscap sheets.
I don't ever remember it from my past.
Unfortunately, as I said, just far too long to print on here.
Of course I am a great fan of DM, went to see him in Gateshead a few years ago. Brilliant.

Thought it was going to be another thread about how you strip searched him Dave at Luton airport. 🤣

The analysis of the lyrics attached above strikes me as making some wild assumptions. I agree that the quartet practicing in the park is a reference to The Beatles. However, the writer states that Lennon reading a book on Marx is about John Lennon but he doesn't get the Marx connection. Couldn't it simply be, "and while Lenin read a book on Marx"...?

My little kids love the song. It gets played several times a week. It's a great song. Legendary.

Once asked for it on karaoke in Portugal and they put the full version on. Had to sack it off after about 8 verses lol.
