Doncaster Rovers v Blackpool Official Matchnight Thread 24.11.20

It's a similar story from beg of season to now. We are dodgy at the back (why Ballard didn't play instead of Ekpiteta I'll never know) and we generally aren't clinical enough going forward. We always look good in general play but if you can't score enough when your on top and can't hold onto a lead when you do score then you have a problem.
I’m not one to normally single players out but Ekpiteta was awful tonight. Hope Ballard is in for him from now on

Another game where Charlie Adam would have made the difference...set pieces and calming us down and organising us in the second half.

Thought we were awfull even in the first half despite being 2. O up Donny apart from the final third were much better on the ball .Time and time again We struggled to put more than 3 passes together and often went long .I got the feeling even at 2 goals up we would struggle as they looked a better side .

Just take comfort from the fact that a man like him is extremely unlikely to have any friends or a wife/girlfriend. A lonely, old, sad man with nothing better to do than try and wind people up. The guy is a loser. An absolute loloser.
I can't wait till we're back in the ground, someone spots him and bounces him off every wall in the West concourse.

That Peterborough player not getting sent off for that challenge on Hamilton, the Doncaster player blatantly handballing it in the box, could even argue TWICE with how it bounced..

So bloody frustrating these refereeing decisions

I’d have preferred us to have signed Alnwick over Maxwell in the summer. Similar situation at Sheff U, lose a decent keeper but replace with a ‘similar’ one, but doesn’t always work.

One thing I noticed is after Yates and madine we are short of backup up front. It needed a fresh pair of legs up there but we don't really have anyone else capable.
No other attackers in the squad . Was half expecting to see Bez after his excellent form in his last match

A bad afternoon at the office, with VAR we would of won. Still on a good run, gives Critch chance to freshen the team up, Ballard, Woodburn to name but two. I think Garbutt could be a tangerine star if we can get him match fit, Keshi, Ward, Gabriel, Kemp somewhere in that lot is a world beating first 11. UTMP

We'll be flirting with the bottom 4 again. Is it a lost season under Critchley?
No, I don't think so. The team have shown what they are capable of but there is still some way to go, the same with Critchley, but with Calderwood providing experience he can improve his decision making. I wonder who it was that decided to delay subs until the 70th min?

We also seem to get punished more than I can remember.

I wonder what the stats must say about chances created which lead to goals conceded. How many real saves do we make in a game?

So presumably he's known exactly what he's doing and been very astute in the last five games? Bodes well.
The last 5 games we have only played one decent team. What works against non league and under 12s won’t work against more astute teams and managers.

I've commented on every game win, draw or lose. You must have your tangerine specs on befuddling your mind and vision. Critchley and this bunch will finish below half-way.
Have you? I've not seen you congratulating the team on wins and performances. Maybe I was just too busy celebrating like a real fan would do. Yep, top 6 no probs. You think we are going down though right?

Why has Lubala suddenly out of favour? I think he’s done ok whenever he’s had a chance and was excellent in the Leeds game.

Lots of learning points all round, based on some real skill and ability. Leadership needed to pick heads up, need to focus for 90 minutes, need to get more goals in front to beat dodgy refs, and Critch needs more confidence to change systems or players when things need freshening. The leadership thing alone would have got us a point today, need 3 or 4 players who will encourage, bollock, put arm round shoulder, the team is not yet resilient enough.

It will come, they are all still learning from top to bottom.

The architypal game of two halves. i thought beforehand doncaster would dick around in their own half and invite trouble, and they did. second half they came out with a bit more intent, played more directly down the wings. Husband was a bit exposed. Jerry i think had run himself into the ground by 60 minutes, probably needed to change it out and maybe even switch to a 4-3-3 at that point. A few players just seemed to run out of steam. Dougall was not at his best, even in the first half, maybe just not used to playing with Robson - who knows.

Madine looked as though he was carrying a bit of a knock second half as well.

Bit of a setback, should have been three points really,

Ref made some truly terribe decisions maybe even our pen, haven't watched it again but it was soft. Their first goal they must have had six players offside. Their second though we would be calling class if we had scored it, good run good finish, got to question the defence and the keeper. Their pen really dont think so. The handball in the last 5 mins about as blatent as could be.!!!!!!

Second half - bad day at the office, complacency possibly but we lacked the intensity we have shown for the last 5 or 6 games. roll it in - back to Squires Gate, not the end of the world - looking forward to saturday.

Lubala has done very little to impress other than the Leeds game, which was against an under 21 team. He needs to show more than that surely.

70th?

No matter how positive we get on this Board and, yes, over-positive at times, it takes just one crap 45 mins for it all to turn to doom and gloom.
There's no doubt we were rubbish second half but what is the opposition to do, lie down and conceed after the first half?
If we're going to do anything this campaign then we've got to make it happen. It won't be handed to us on a plate.
Roll on Saturday.

Pal, we’ve gifted them the game, not been ripped to shreds. In terms of quality, we were head and shoulders above them. There was nothing astute about them, they’ll feel very fortunate tonight.
Sorry but ripped to shreds is exactly what happened in the second half. We were made to look very poor and Critchleys reluctance to make subs was incredible.

Anyone else wonder why Maxwell is our captain ? Who is the person that can drag the team up by the scruff of the neck when the shit hits the fan ?! Spearing may have past it in terms of ability but his personality will be being missed
I said that as soon has he left, even if he was only on the bench he'd have still had a go.
