Embarrassing

The ship is extremely complex and almost brand new.

Never worked on a ship in my life but its almost certainly a case of infant mortality and one of the reasons you take a ship on exercise is to drive out the latent errors.

That explanation wouldn't trigger enough tax payers though, so you'll never hear a newspaper say it.

A 3 billion war ship and its sailing away meanwhile thousands of economic migrants that have in many cases come from safe countries invade our shores in rubber dingys every year, we pay to house them in hotels. That’s embarrassing.

'Economic migrants'. The vast majority of people arriving in the UK in small boats across the Channel are refugees.

For the top 10 countries of origin arriving by small boat, 61% of initial decisions made in the 18 months to June 2021 would have resulted in refugee protection being granted, a report commissioned by the Refugee Council states. This compares with 52% of decisions made for all nationalities in the same period.

The report shows that for Syrians, 88% are granted refugee status; for Eritreans the rate is 84%; for Sudanese and those from Yemen, 70%; for Iranians, 67%; for Vietnamese, 65%; for people from Kuwait Bidoun, 61%; and for Afghans, 56%.
If an asylum claim is refused by the Home Office at the initial decision stage, the applicant has a right of appeal to an independent tribunal. The report shows 59% of appeals are likely be allowed for the top 10 countries of origin, compared with 46% for appeals allowed for all countries. For example, 59% of appeals by Iranians are likely to be successful, as are 69% of Sudanese appeals and 73% of appeals by Syrians.

Perhaps it would be better not to believe press releases from Scott Benton and Priti Patel.

Refugees are supposed to stay put in the first safe Country they get to. Not leave a perfect safe Country to risk their lives crossing the channel to get a better life.

Some people honestly! If you think they are so good why not house one or two like your Gary Lineker mate. You lefties are beyond my comprehension.

So, why have the majority passed all the rules required by the Home Office for settled status? You seem to need them as a bad thing. People to despise. Call them economic migrants then, when it's shown that they aren't, fall back on the idea that they should have stayed somewhere else. When it's shown that the Home Office has passed them for settled status, what then? What is the next desperate defence of your need to hate them?

Over 50% are now from Albania, a safe, reasonably prosperous country.
