England v SA 3rd ODI

Typical England looking like a huge score looming when the series it’s all ready over.

I see Bethell finally gets a big score (had to happen eventually I suppose) well done on his ton let’s hope Root follows suit.

Could well be a 400+ score here with 10 overs still to go currently 299/2.

And just as I speak 🤦‍♂️

Next stop the Aussies, let archer, wood ,carse , and 1or2 other pacey lads wreck havoc and for crying out loud make sure there’s a spot for rehan Ahmed as one of the spinners

England to bat first.

Bookies have England as favourites for a third time. Ridiculous.
You're right it was ridiculous, the most one sided game since...............errrr well since the first ODI when we were the ones getting walloped!!

Archer was simply unplayable in his opening spell, if we can get Wood fit then we have an exciting pace attack ready for the Ashes.

Really good we finally hit our straps today, we have a very talented white ball side and we finally saw what they were capable of today, sets up the upcoming T20's nicely, they are finally giving Duckett a break and which is well overdue as he's struggled for runs for some time now, best thing he can do now is play some red ball cricket and prepare for the Ashes, with England resting opening partner Jamie Smith, Tom Banton, Phil Salt or Jos Buttler would seem the likely replacements as openers and Rehan Ahmed and Sam Curran will be pushing for places further down the order depending on pitch conditions. I still cannot believe they've not picked Jordan Cox for the T20 series, the highest run getter in the Hundred and who also happens to be bang in form.

Sam Curran will replace Duckett for the T20 matches.

I agree Rehan Ahmed should be in both short form teams. A great spin bowler with a raft of variations and a thug with the bat.

Yes but they also have to replace Smith and Root so basically our top three from the ODI's are being rested and remember Sam Curran aint no opener.

Rehan Ahmed has been selected so with three batters rested may well get the nod.

The plan always was to rest Duckett but now they've decided to rest Smith as well, I thought it would be a good time to bring in the in form Jordan Cox, for me the guide here is the form in the Hundred as it's the most recent indicator of form and strangely they've not picked Cox, Crawley or Livingstone who were all in the top five batters in the tournament.

Looks like they're going with Salt, Banton, Buttler, Brook, Bethell, Jacks, Curran as the top seven batters which is pretty good considering the talent we're resting.

I still think Cox should have been selected purely based on his scintillating current form.

Agree with all of that. And whilst Cox has been around for a good few years he was outrageous in The Hundred this year and certainly deserves his opportunity.

Not that many years Mac, the lad is only 24 pal.

Well at least he is in the squad for the Ireland T20 series so should get some game time there.

I meant he's been around the T20 scene since he was young. He's a talent. Would like to see him given his chance.

Respect. Always enjoy your opinions on sport.

Cheers Mac, I'm a firm believer in picking form players in sport and none more so than in cricket than a lot of other sports because batting is all about timing and bowling is all about rhythm, add the obvious good form breeds confidence factor and selectors have to pick players in form, picking Duckett for the ODI's cost us the series because having a form player like Cox, Crawley or Ahmed in his place would have been the difference maker in runs on the board, much as I rate Duckett as a multi format player, he's had an awful August and it carried on in the ODI'S which came as no surprise.

On to the T20's which I'm looking forward to I'm surprised they're resting opener Jamie Smith who is in form, it's a gamble having a completely new top three, hopefully they can hit their straps early.
