England v Scotland Match Thread

You bet pal, send them tight as cramp, skirt wearing, porridge munching, caber tossing, Whisky sodden, bitter Sweaties back up the road with their tail between their legs, and out of the major tournaments for another 23 years lads. 👍
Do I get to send the Jock wife back also. 😂

3 nil England, the Jocks are the worse team in the tournament despite that muddled headed match commentator against the Czechs describing them as possibly the best Scotland team ever before the first goal went in! FFS 🤦‍♂️

Just watching breakfast TV and the Jocks of confident of a win for them.

I wonder how many of them have wagered bets on them. The bookies offering 10/1 odds for a win.

It will be a major upset if they do it.

An outside chance of a draw but I think of a comfortable 2-0 win for England.

This Scotland side has two or three top Premier League players. The rest are cannon fodder really. But you add in passion and they could make a challenge of it.

If England play well, they win.

Czech Republic must have been a walk in the park then....

The last time Scotland had something to cheer about at Wembley was in 1981!

Yes they beat us in 1999 but lost 2-1 on aggregate to eliminate them from Euros.

Only Robertson is decent enough to make the England squad.

Knowing England no doubt we’ll labour to a 1-0/2-1 win in a very tight game. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Oh and for the wokes amongst us the flag is not a racist statement. 👍
Give it a rest.

Anyway, we'll need a shocking performance not to win, cruising at 4-0 until a lapse in the last five minutes to make it 4-1.

It is just before Scotland v England in the Euro’s Group game.

Kane goes into the English changing room to find all his team mates looking a bit glum.

"What's up?" he asks.

"Well, we're having trouble getting motivated for this game. We know it's important but it's only Scotland. They're shite and we can't be bothered".

Kane looks at them and says "Well, I reckon I can beat these by myself, you lads go down the pub."

So Kane goes out to play Scotland by himself and the rest of the English team go off for a few pints. After a few jars they wonder how the game is going, so they get the landlord to put the teletext on. A big cheer goes up as the screen reads "England 1 - Scotland 0 (Kane 10minutes)". He is beating Scotland all by himself!

Anyway, a few more pints later and the game is forgotten until someone remembers "It must be full time now, let's see how he got on". They put the teletext on.

"Result from the Stadium "England 1 (Kane 10 minutes) - Scotland 1"(Angus McShagnasty 89 minutes)".

They can't believe it, he has single handedly got a draw against Scotland!!

They rush back to the Stadium to congratulate him. They find him in the dressing room, still in his gear, sat with his head in his hands. He refuses to look at them.

"I've let you down, I've let you down."

"Don't be daft, you got a draw against Scotland , all by yourself. And they only scored at the very very end"

"No, No, I have, I've let you down...

I got sent off after 12 minutes"

Going 3-0 England. I'm never usually this confident when it comes to our national side, but I think it'll be routine tonight.

Of course there is the slight worry that they will be bang up for it, given it's their cup final, but as long as we show up and play well we'll be alright.

Can only see one winner, hopefully by 3 or 4 …
Yesterday I had Ukraine/Belgium/Holland paid about 4/1..
Today i’m doing same (ie favourites) Sweden/Croatia/England..👍

I think we have to factor in passion and desire here lads, and when that's the case the underdog always raise their game and that will be the case tonight.

England's extra touch of class will edge it for us, but this is no stroll in the park.

Expect some chaos for the first 15 minutes, a few rash challenges and eleven red faced Scotsmen running their hearts out. Weather may favour the Scots as it is expected to pour with rain during the game. Hopefully we will weather this and not concede.
After the opening salvos, hopefully we will get the ball down and play it around them. We have enough pace to scare them and a world class centre forward, so we should score, perhaps more than one. Worst case scenario is that Scotland go in front and then go ultra defensive, that could be difficult (like Iceland) and is where Grealish comes into play. If they give us space we should score more than one. Mount, Foden, Sterling and Kane all have the quality.

Another observation, if Scotland take a high line like they did for the Czech second goal then we may have some fun at their expense. Suicidal against the pace that we have in several positions.
If alternatively they sit further back, then expect Mount, Kane and the full backs to come into their own.

There will be a lot of nerves from both teams, the weight of expectancy is on England, whereas Scotland know another defeat will probably mean the end of their campaign. All this talk of crushing England wins, I don't think will be the case. It will be very much like a derby game, I expect England to control the game but it will be tight and whoever scores first will have a great chance.

Hopefully England settle quickly and get that all important first goal, the more that Scotland have to risk, the more I can see our pace hurting them.

A side note, the referee is the very experienced Spaniard - Antonio Mateu Lahoz

Mateu_Lahoz.jpg

I've been impressed with most of the officiating so far, hopefully he handles the game with a little bit of commonsense.

What always puts me off about the England football team is the way that the press and the fans are so bloody cocksure about themselves before every tournament. Then, when they lose they go into complete meltdown: "it should never have happened", they shouldn't be beating us..."
I think England will win and maybe, comfortably. They are one of the fancied teams in this tournament but please, season your support with a dressing of humility.

That's bloody hilarious 😂 😂 😂

If it was Bloomfield Rd after the weather London has been getting surely the question has to be is the game going to be on?

Inspection shortly at Ascot.

We should beat Scotland as they’re not very good. Just like France, Italy, Belgium & Portugal should all beat England cos they’re better than us. Nothing to do with arrogance

A draw would allow us to more than likely to qualify with a game to come & give Scotland a sniff of hope. Will that happen I rather doubt it.

I would settle for that now. I've got a feeling the Scots will get a result today. Best midfield they've had for decades and this is like Bannockburn for them. I'm not sure England will be motivated. I wish the media would stop fawning over their fans though. They're like performing seals.

Team News according to Sky

Only two changes - both full backs being changed with Shaw and James coming in.

It's absolutely pissing it down here and has been since 6am this morning, temperature has dropped 10 degrees celsius too, it's reckon freezing. It's going to be a slippery old surface that's for sure. I think that will suit us more than them.

I should have copyrighted that joke when I posted it on the Friday joke thread this morning 🤣🤣🤣

I'm not surprised at some of these comments given the gulf in class (on paper at least) between the 2 teams. Nevertheless, in my 60+ years on this planet, I've seen pretty much everything in football, and it's not beyond the realms of possibility that there might be an upset tonight. England v USA 1950, England v Poland 1974, England v Iceland 2016 and there are probably more....Yes there is a strong possibility of an England win tonight but cocksure comments tend to result in one thing - a kick in the teeth!

If it was the players making these observations, then yes I agree, but in the main its a bunch of no marks making inane comments on an obscure message board - no offence 😜

England v Poland was 1973 and whereas we lost the other two games you refer to we did actually draw that game. Was my first visit to Wembley. Also think Poland went on to come third at the wcWC in 1974 so they were no mugs.

Arrogance in 1950. They decided they didn't need Matthews in the USA game.
