EU Selfish on shellfish

I think that it is pretty clear that the Bridlington shellfish company will not 'gradually replace' it's EU customers with other customers because it has just gone out of business making all of it's staff redundant. The owners blame Brexit.
This story is gaining momentum. The Yorkshire Post below expressing some concern and asking for a renegotiation. I thought that we had got Brexit done.

There were articles as recently as November 2020 hopefully predicting Bridlington would become the European capital of shellfish. It's a classic example of how one-sided selfish, thinking (not realising there has to be a buyer for you to be a seller) leads to disaster. Sums Brexit up.

The head of JD Sports spoke on BBC World at One saying that he is probably going to have to open a distribution centre in the EU as Brexit is costing the company millions. That's 1000 new jobs in Europe and redundancies in Rochdale. He is scathing about the Brexit deal.
Made up by the Media according to a prominent Brexit supporter on here.

The Rochdale Brexit vote was 60.1% to leave so it's likely the majority of those now facing losing their job will have voted for it and will probably now be wishing they hadn't.

Latest BBC news: Not just shellfish that are missing, but baked beans and custard creams can't be found on the shelves of European supermarkets. They'll be rioting on the streets there soon.
Well they said Brexit would cause food shortages 😁

If you want to talk games how's maybe EU consigned to Dusty bin
Dusty Bin was the booby prize so the analogy doesn't fit with how much the EU is thriving at our expense with billions of financial services trades and jobs transferred from London and lots of UK firms setting up factories and warehouses over there instead of here. 'Who wants to be a Millionaire?' would be more appropriate seeing as though we have handed this over to them.

Feeling sorry for our once European friends I’ve been out this morning and bought multi box's of Heinz baked beans, Custard creams, Bourbons, and some frozen shell fish (muscles, crayfish, cockles etc) I got the frozen ones so they don’t have to go through the purification process.
I’am happy to send them to a supermarket on the continent and remind our former friends what their missing but I’am not sure which country deserves them most.
Any help much appreciated guys. 👍

Maybe you could donate some of it to a food bank for those Brits who have or who will shortly be losing their jobs?

Yer I can do that no problem at all it’s just that I felt sorry for our once Euro friends who can no longer savour some British delights. 👍

Do you want me to exclude those from the shellfish industry or not as they are the innocent people in all this mess and any jobs lost it’s a direct result of Brussels madness.

Mexboro, Big Hands, Shandypants, Wizaard. I was trying to find the collective noun for a group of clowns.

It seems there are two words - A pratfall and a mutiny. Amazing how closely both words fit in this case. 😆

By the way, which one is which?

“Brussels madness”?

Is that the same as “It’s what you voted for. Brexit meant Brexit. Get over it”.

So no custard creams on the shelves eh? 😮

Wait till the Bourbons run out. 😂
You are constantly blasé about the effects of this brexit mess on other people. We all know none of this will have any effect on you in your little retirees bubble but people have needlessly lost their jobs and livelihoods. Try having a little empathy.
Has your blue passport arrived, which you were so excited about, yet?

Their must be a lot of people like me then because 52% voted leave.

I usually only comment on threads the anti British brigade slag off our country every day every week and I think it’s that that tommy is referring to you just get sick of it.

The people who have lost their jobs in the fishing industry/shell fish industry have so because the EU are back stabbing us in the back for daring to leave what was once acceptable to import shell fish prior to Jan 1st now all of a sudden isn’t.

100x more people have lost their jobs through the pandemic than Brexit but do prove me wrong.

Of course certain things aren’t running smoothly right now I’ve never said any different but ffs we’ve only been out of the EI 6 weeks for Gods sake some things might take 6/12 months before we see the benefits, no one has ever said it’s going to be all fine on 2nd January have they?

It’s issues like this that you know 100% you did the right thing in voting leave their just a bunch of back stabbing tw*ts the balls up over the vaccine just proves my point.

Should have left a decade in my opinion things would be all rosey by now and the EU would be history. (Covid Exception)

As I understand it, they are asking for purified shellfish, which we have never had to supply because we could send it within the EU and get the product cleansed at the end point.

As a result of the vote, we're no longer in the EU so need to clean before transportation to meet the standard expected directly as a consequence of not being in the EU. This is what the vote was about. The fact that our incompetent Government didn't read the small print means its them that stabbed us in the back. Nativity was more important to the Minister than faffing around reading pages of detail.

Anyway, we've left. You were all for that so let's get out there and sell shellfish elsewhere. Apparently theres loads of other markets for fresh seafood. Pity they're a long way away and not on our doorstep.

Just to clear up the issue on purification, you can’t purify shell fish with anything other than salt water otherwise you’ll kill them so you purify them with salt water the same salt water you caught them in.
As said many times before on here the EU are more than happy to eat fish from U.K. waters but have you ever asked yourself why the catch never gets purified when it’s caught in the same water as shell fish?
Oh and it doesn’t take a non fisherman to work out all sea fish eat shell fish it’s their natural diet.

Wiz, you, I, Mex, and numerous others keep posting the facts about shellfish, but it doesn't suit their agenda, so they ignore it. I asked days ago about this new shellfish market we got, what the source was, and strangely, had no reply.

They are getting really Trumpian in their desperation to paint EU bad, UK good. The EU has many faults, at times could not organise the proverbial in a brewery, but food hygiene rules have been consistent and excellent for many years.

Because it shortens the shelf life drastically, do keep up. You purify it with artificially made salt water or purifies sea water to guarantee no nasties. However, as this has no nutrients, they die quickly.

No nasties yet they eat the fish from the same water without purification that feed on shell fish? 😂
Don’t kid yourself.
Ever tried keeping salt water fish in a tank using artificially made marine salt? a few granules too much either way and you kill what’s in the tank even the coral nothing like the water they live in.
Purification my backside we’ve been eating shell fish for thousands of years without any issues.
I’ve been harvesting and eating mussels, cockle, Brown shrimp out of Morecambe bay for 40+ years without any purification and I’am still here.

The people who have lost their jobs because their jobs have moved out of this country, will they be seeing the benefit in 6/12 months time?

Right driver start the bus, I'm on now.

No one likes to see people losing their job/business and I’am no different but like I said previously 100x more have fallen by the wayside as a direct result of Covid not Brexit.
People are all too quick to beat Brexit with a stick these days for every bit of negative news.

As such an expert in shellfish, you have no doubt answered your own question. Shellfish like this are filter feeders, and concentrate spread nutrients, algae, plankton, bacteria, viruses, in fact this is the reason why two of the world's monothaeistic religions forbid their consumption. Shellfish related food poisoning is very common, in fact BFCPete above said it happened to him the only time he ate it

As you have eaten loads out of Morecambe Bay, ever had your mercury levels tested?

Of course people suffer from shell fish food poisoning the same way as they suffer from food poisoning in general.

Sea food poisoning is usually down to the way it’s been stored or cooled once cooked it’s the same with any raw meat (Chicken being the worst culprit) it’s usually contracted when abroad when they have dodgy fridges/freezers as they don’t work very well in very hot weather thats why many Brits on holiday tend to give shell fish a wide berth.

As for my mercury levels thanks for asking but how much do you think I eat? Probably no more than half a dozen times a year if I’am lucky (all are seasonal) so I’am sure my levels are just fine.

I’am no expert but I’ve never once been ill from any shell fish I’ve caught myself and I’ve never yet used any purification system it’s simply cooked as soon as possible and stored in a chilled fridge for no more than 2-3 days max.

Oh and for the record yes I’ve been ill from eating it abroad for reasons I’ve given above.

Quick question when on holiday abroad how many glass cabinets do you see full of fish/shell fish outside restaurants in full sun light when walking around with the only cooling is a few ice cubes? They wheel them out in the morning and usually stood there all day and in to the evening then any not sold usually turn up again the next morning and they talk about purification of our shell fish? Seriously don’t make me laugh.

Its amazing. These people were our partners, and now they are our competitors. Of course they are going to treat us differently. These Brexiteers seem to think we are something special and we really aren't.

You can't say that. It's negative.

It's amazing how you 🤡 weren't so supportive of our fishing industry prior to Brexit when you went to great lengths to point out it was barely 1% of the economy and shouldn't be an obstacle to getting Brexit done and now suddenly here you are bemoaning the problems that have arisen.

Oh welcome to the board Coppiceman. Seemed to take you years to discover AVFTT eh! Or have you just changed your username or perhaps even have more than one? Rhetorical question by the way.

Maybe that could be the strapline for brexit.

Brexit - It's not half as bad as Covid 19.

I see they have banned UK shellfish imports indefinitely. They have been happy to take these shellfish for years when the seas were more polluted, and are still happy to use them if they are caught by a EU boat a few miles offshore.
I do not think we should just let this second blatant breach of free trade just pass by after the vaccine debacle without any reprisals.
Do not want to start trade wars but the EU are showing their true colours.
Selfish institution that will be no longer within 2 years watch this space.
