Evatt post match

Great manager Evatt. Spoke very well. He’ll get it right.
Really wish he'd have come in over the summer and had a full pre season and to build as much of the squad as he can in 1 window.

There's no way he'd have signed some of the players we have.

For me hes a great manager and no matter who we had in we'd still hit the same issues with the players we have available.

Doesn't matter if Pep is stood on the touchline, when a ball is pinged out to CJ and it goes through him time after time, when Brown misplaces basic passes, when headers away are aimless and to no-one, when most chances we create are blazed over or just a weak off balance efforts etc, when players are caught offside needlessly, when you have to rely on the guys who failed before he came in even with a stronger squad at times, then it's going to be difficult, really difficult.

Many of them fail too often at the basics and that's always going to make it tough.

Agree with that. The mentality amongst key players is too weak.

We lack that winning, aggressive mentality. We need Evatt to steer us out and kick several men overboard at the first opportunity.

I agree with what Evatt said totally today. Our play was at times pretty good but then it goes to someone who either can't control it, can't finish it or in some cases just randomly falls over. What can you do. The players are poor and we desperately need the 6 or 7 injuries back. Evatt will get it right if given the time and the backing.

This is the Team that Bruce built and he could do nothing with them . Can not wait for the next transfer window to see if Sadler will back Evo. Some of these player are on long contracts and I don’t think they are bothered. If top teams can play 18 year olds why are we playing players at the end of their career.

Hi picked the team …. Coulson and Lyons as our creative players ….. Today is 100% on Evatt !!
As opposed to who? CJ, who can barely trap the ball at times. Hanson who hasn't set the world alight.

Banks can shoot a bit, but where does he play, do we alter it just for him?

An honest interview from Evvo, unlike those we got from Bruce - "they were a very good team. Everything is fine etc" .
It would be unhelpful & unfair to single anyone out, as all the players let themselves, Evvo & the supporters down today.
I hope SS has the money to back Evvo for several new players in January. Or we're in for a long, hard relegation battle. If (contracts or neutral agreements permitting) we are able to offload any players that will be a huge bonus.
Just over a 9,000 silent crowd today (including absent ST holders) speaks volumes.
The players alone have dismantled fortress Bloomfield Road.

He’s shocked with what he’s taken over. Personally think he’s still sheltering these players, he should be calling them out in public. Or these so called leaders should be speaking out themselves.
A decent leader won't call anyone out in public, it's not the right thing to do. Although I hope he will have a few honest conversations tomorrow or Monday! The togetherness just isn't there.

Poor today but we have to move on.

There's more to it than that. Any team we put out must at least want to fight for the shirt.
These players have played under Bruce, Dobbie and Evatt, different styles and different ways.

We see the same issues with some of the limited players.

We've still been better overall under Evatt.

They have been fighting for the shirt so far, today was nowhere near good enough, not good enough quality wise at both ends either.

I don't blame Evatt at all, he needs time and it's becoming apparent that there's something very wrong with the club right now.
It's been wrong for some seasons.

There isn't the basic plan or a clue of a medium term goal. This is boardroom stuff and is why we've recruited good players but not to make a good team. The latter is the cheaper option but required thought and some skill.

Surely 2007-2012 thought us these lessons?

Complete panic and lost our heads.
I have never know a Blackpool team so void of confidence.

My concern is that they appear less confident now than when IE took over
When he talks about fear and standing up and being counted, ability aside, isn't he responsible for motivating and instilling confidence?
There was no way today we looked like levelling once we went behind.
For the first time in many a year I left before the final whistle

We must be looking at the CEO role along with a whole host of staff?

You'd think wouldn't you? Difference is Sadler is investing, he's just really shit at it. He should stick to ace horses

He also has to take responsibility for his decisions though. Such as starting again with three hopelessly right footed centre halves when it's obvious that's not going to work. Such as bringing off our best attacking hope in Lyons (because that's how poor our attacking outlets were today) and replacing him with CJ. All while Coulson, who turned back inside and lost our momentum almost every time he received the ball stayed on the pitch while Ashcroft and Jimmy warmed the bench.

Evatt is asking for the fans to stay on side, because the players confidence is low.

The last thing they need is fans booing them when they make a misplaced pass or cheering when someone gets subbed.

And he is spot on.
The problem is Evo has had to suffer a few games of this, while the fans have had years of it. While the manager changes, the club infrastructure carries on blindly.

I agree.
A meaningful statement from Evvo would be to make the same team play at Harrogate, where under normal circumstances, todays players would be given a day off & our young players would be expected to play.

Just not convinced the system will work.

If there’s one thing we were crying out for when we sacked Bruce it was a manager who was dynamic and flexible.

Evatt loves the club and I like him but if he sticks rigidly to using wing backs then I really worry for what’s ahead of us.

I couldn't understand the Lyons substitution either, as he was our best threat and looking good going forward.
All I can think is he had a knock, or had tired due to lack of minutes played recently.
You'd HAVE to hope there was a valid reason, which I'm sure there was.

We as fans can see misplaced passes and the such, but we don't see knocks on the TG or general fatigue for whatever reason.

Pre match I thought it the best XI we could field within the 18 named and in the best formation. Just the players aren't yet a team- lack of leaders, lack of little partnerships in the team. Just not right atm.

Still, I trust Evatt to see it right.

But, and I'm sorry, if this is the standard of play fans are (regularly) being subjected to, how are they truly expected to react?

Not going to give him a free ride, but Evo's hands are more or less tied at the moment because NOTHING in the available squad really works.

Getting Husband AND Imray fit would help because we can then play a solid back 4, which would be much better for any 2 of the 3 CB's.
If we played Husband as a LCB, there's no natural RCB. Ihiekwe proved that today by being hopelessly exposed. Casey and Horsfall wouldn't do any better as they lack pace.

The midfield options don't look right, whichever combination or system is played. 2 in the middle will be overrun and we don't have the right wide men and 3 in the middle lacks legs and balance.

The forward options don't look close to being a pair or a 3. There's no obvious combinations that look 'right'.

In short, we have to make do until January and hope that someone with sense can start building a squad that keeps us up.

If SS wants us to stay up, then the first thing he needs to buy into, is that the squad needs some athletes, rather than the meek bunch of wet rags that are wearing the shirt at the moment.

It’s ok Evatt saying we need to stick together but unfortunately it works both ways.
When you can see it doesn’t mean anything to this squad to loose badly, how does he expect us to react?
This squad is rotten to the core and it may take a relegation to shift some of the shite from our squad and let Evo start again.

Agree with all of that tbh. The problem is, I think Evo is as wedded to 3/5 at the back as Critchley. He will need to build some flexibility into his thinking to get us out of this shambolic mess. One more thing we all now know. We have an £8 million wage bill, the 6th largest in this league. So far this season these players are stealing it and they need to step up fast.

As said on another thread, just 4 good players coming in Jan and 4 who aren't good enough going, added to the good ones we want to keep some of which who are currently out injured can change a squad and team pretty dramatically.

He took one heck of a whack from their decisive keeper, followed by another whack when his face hit the grass. He's a tough Irish kid, but he may suffered from delayed concussion.

We signed a ton of wingers, then brought in a manager who doesn't play wingers. We lost a goalscoring midfielder and replaced him with two defensive midfielders
The decisions we continue to make are really poor and we'll continue to make our way down the leagues if we don't improve our decision making.
Sadler needs to get much better people around him, because the one's he has now are taking us backwards. I'd be livid if I'd forked out the sixth largest budget in the league and this was the result.

I take from that interview that he’s seen more than enough to make his mind up about this squad. Whether he can change it in January given we’ve spaffed a decent wedge of money already remains to be seen

If I was Sadler and saw little chance of P/O's in Jan then I wouldn't spend, but tinker with loans.

Right players, right positions and no problem.

Then look at the summer window.
