Everyone written off automatic?

No doubt Lincoln and Posh have got momentum behind them at the moment (Us, Oxford and Sunderland probably the other three clubs) and even if we win our two games in hand then we are 9/10 points behind them. Of course if we win those two games in hand and we can beat both sides in the return fixtures then that brings down the points needed dramatically. Big week - looking at their fixtures, we will need to get maximum points just to keep up!

Lincoln: Swindon (h)/Plymouth (a)
Peterborough: Plymouth (a)/Wigan (h)

All of those are massive ifs, if we win our games in hand, if we can beat them in the reverse fixtures.

I don't believe there is even a remote chance this squad could go up automatic this year. We've already lost 10 games, it would be a massive achievement if we turned the season around to even finish 6th.

Odds are around 8/1 and I would say that is about right.

We would need an incredible amount of good fortune for it to happen.
It has been done before though!

I'd agree with Peel in that automatic feel beyond us now. However I don't want to write off the playoff just yet. A lot will depend, quite obviously, on getting some of our key injured players back in the side. We've shown we are capable of grinding difficult results like Portsmouth with the diminished squad but we'll need more of our options, both upfront and at the back, available if we are going to build up a big run of results.

Feels like we’ve been playing catch up all season, but the annoying thing is that I don’t feel like any of the sides in this division are a serious step above. I’m interested to see how we’ll do away at Lincoln.

We’ve already shown we can do it against Pompey, Peterborough, Hull etc, but I’m not convinced we’re ruthless enough just yet to push aside the more ugly (or well organised, which ever stance you take) sides in this division such as Gills, Accy etc.

I stand by what I’ve said all season, a top half finish with some positive football would be a great outcome, and then we really push next year 👍

Interesting reading some of those Pompey comments after Saturdays game pretty much unanimous in that fans think they’ve already blown automatic promotion and surprisingly so few actually still think they’ll finish in the play-offs and let’s not forget Pompey are 8 points ahead right now (granted we’ve 2 games in hand)

So for me
Auto no chance top 2 won’t be caught.
Play-offs a slight chance, but would have to go on an amazing run.

We'd need Lincoln, Peterborough and Hull to all have a sudden collapse in form. Given how consistent they have been so far, that seems unlikely. I think top 2 isn't impossible but I have my doubts about us being good enough to put that kind of run together. Tuesday is a big game, if we can secure another 3 points we will be well in the play off hunt.

It really is frustrating that we aren't closer to the top 2 considering some of the result we've achieved this season. I notice Peterborough have only lost once at home all season for example...
I think our poor start, injury list and now a gruelling fixture backlog will mean automatic is going to be beyond us. Such a shame because I think this team at full strength is definitely good enough to be competing with Lincoln, Peterborough and Hull. Not saying mistakes haven't been made, but sometimes you just don't get the breaks either.

We can beat anyone. Top 2 isnt out of range when we have 20 games to go.

Need to win at least 15 of the remaining 20 games to be in with a shout of the top 2 ....... not impossible but I wouldnt personally place a bet on it.

Of course we can get promotion

Even automatic isn't that far away when there are so many games left

We are playing ok enough to get results and the league is relatively poor, anyone can beat any other side

Its a bit annoying that we are playing catch up given how strong our squad looks but the start of the season was abysmal

Simon Sadler has backed the coach with everything he wants so promotion should be a realistic expectation
