Evo TTV post match, sums it up and wha I thought

Yeah we just collapsed badly the game before, when we do that our confidence leaves us.

Today was always going to be a battle.

Evatt wants to pass it and play technically so to be pragmatic and scrap is what many were asking for in a relegation battle, not to pass it at the back too which leads to long balls and 2nd balls.

Fans seemed to be liking the scrap and pressing until they scored, it was working well.

If we'd have played technical players and lost battles due to them not being good in the air or at scrapping, people would be going mad saying he can't change, we're in a relegation battle, what's he doing etc.

Was a good point in the end given other results. Wigan are a similar sized club as us at this level, not one of the teams expected to be going down, like us. There's worse sides.

He talks a good game Evo I’ll give him that. It does beg the question though if he won’t take a risk and play his creative players at home against a club 5th bottom of the league when will he? Certainly not away from home. I genuinely like the bloke but I think he overthinks things, at the end of the day it’s 3rd division football, just play your best most attacking team and let them worry about you. Especially at home!

Exactly what I said on another post. You would think you’d been listening to me 😂😂

Positive mental attitude he certainly hasn’t got and that is filtered into our play.
He has, but he's dealing with the players he's got and they don't. You can tell the way he's playing and being pragmatic goes against all he wants to do.

But many fans said you have to scrap, battle and so that team did and was set up for that. Given the Wigan bounce, a derby game and a bit more direct Wigan, overall it might have been the right call.

We'll never know what might happen, but we've seen some of the technical players overcome by strong battling sides before.

Had we done that then gone behind and heads gone, given we just had 4 put past us, most in the last 10 minutes, then a bad game can turn into a bad run. He obviously felt for a number of reasons today was going to be a battle.

You do realise we were playing Wigan at home?

So we didn't go for the win because we're feeling a bit fragile?
Maybe Ian could forecast when the players will be tough enough mentally to actually go for a win?
Because the games are running out.
A nervous tentative manager won't keep us up and it transmits to the players.
Yep what happened to the wounded animal theory. Oh and hang on we’re the home team

Like Bruce did? A lot more to it than that.

Can't Just throw small technical players into a battle if we're going long a lot, if we're playing them we need to be passing it far more.

People are going to moan no matter what.

Not entitled in the slightest to see a game go by the wayside that was more than there for the taking. Both sides were poor, but we were at home but set up not to lose.
Neither team deserved to win or lose. I think they only had one shot on target and that went in.

We had two from memory.

No but you seem to be implying that it's ok not to attack just because Wigan have had a couple of 'positive' results.
Not at all. I'm as disappointed as most with 2 shots on target all afternoon, especially after scoring after 3 minutes.

They had one, by the way.

Our first substitution was to bring on Ennis....

It wouldn't have mattered if we had brought Harry Kane on; if the midfield aren't capable of creating chances.

I thought Anderson offered little, especially second half. Disappointed that we didn't bring on one of our more creative players midway through the second half.
I thought both Anderson and Walters were blowing out of their arses after an hour. The issue was Anderson was the only physical presence we had in midfield.

Taking him off would have left us with the equivalent of crisp bags as defensive cover if the likes of Randall and Clarkson had come on.

I would have brought CJ on for Walters after an hour as their winger was running Walters ragged.

They had one that hit the inside of the post that was very lucky not to go in and one missed in the last minute that was a real chance, If that was the other way round you'd be using that to say how unlucky we were not to win.
Evatt completely contradicts himself. Scared to go for the win today but then talks about trying to win the next two away games. It's laughable. It's unbearable listening to his waffle because you know most of it is just bullshit.

Shots that hit the post don't count as being on target.

I don't think he realised when he took the job what a poor lot he inherited and he expected much more from them. He is trying his best with what he has.

And that's where you show yourself up. You try to make a point with excuses like that. You know Damn well that was a massive let off that 9 times out of 10 would have gone in. Then try to justify they had one shot and scored.

Because apart from the one that hit the post they never looked like scoring. Of course it was a let off, but it was also a one off.

We did at least huff and puff around their box, putting a number of efforts wide and got penalised in the area a number of times for God knows what.

He didn't say win, he said pick up pts.

Hit the nail on the head. Football is being over analysed to the point where people can't see what is in front of them. How can you keep bowler on the bench when he is probably the only player in the squad who can create something from nothing. Just get him in the team and not let him worry about tracking back. Midfield three of Anderson, brown and honeyman are going to create you very little

I think most people call it right on here ..it’s a disappointing performance and an underwhelming attitude…we have to regain a winning mentality…lose the next two and I would say we’re more likely to go down than not…4 points from the next two games would be great …in fact I would be happy with 3 points ..anything less and it’s squeaky bum time and our attitude and willingness to battle is questionable. Personally I think we will draw the next two ..hope we do better than that

Anderson only physical presence in midfield - yet another one of them bizarrely got man of the match!

Disagree with that Wiz...

I would have had Bowler on much earlier, in place of Anderson, to give the Pie Eaters something to worry about.
Enough left in midfield with Brown and Honeyman plus the wingbacks.
That starting line up was never going to create much, apart from a set play, which we actually managed to score from! 😲

Wigan who have appointed a new manager, are better for it and have just won two on the bounce.
I can understand the caution, but as the game entered the last half hour or so it looked increasingly winnable and the extra 2 points would have done us the world of good ahead of losing a point. I'd have taken Bloxham off and put Bowler or Randall on after 65 and gone with just Fletcher- open play didn't look a likely route so 2 was not necessary.

That said, IE will have seen this game in context with those coming up, rather than in isolation. However, at some point (soon) he's going to have to go out and try to win games.

I'm still behind Evatt 100%, but he is a tad overcautious. Now the next 2 games at Wim and Don are games we MUST get 4 points from. He does that and it's 5 from 3 and he's vindicated for yesterday. He doesn't and Sheffield runs out of knives.
