Feigning Injury

I'm sick of players in this competition throwing themselves on the ground every time they are tackled and lose the ball.
There are so many obviously false dives etc, it's embarrassing.
Time the Referees, with the aid of VAR, to actually take another think.
OK, we use the VAR system mainly for goal mouth incidents and penalties, and maybe it's too much to use it for cheating,
However they are ruining the game we love, so something must be done to stop it.

I totally agree, you'd think after the serious incident with Eriksen, players would realise feigning injury could potentially have awful consequences. When you look at other sports, such as both rugby codes, it just doesn't happen. I've said all along the worst thing in any sport, is a cheat, with the introduction of VAR and multiple camera angles it is time football introduced a panel to stamp out players who do this. I'm absolutely convinced that we'd see a change immediately, with those culpable being banned, fined and shamed.

Bang on DP: I find myself turning it over in frustration. I sometimes watch The Big Match Revisited to remind myself of what football was like. It wasn’t perfect but at least it didn’t make me angry!

The refs have done well so far in spotting most of the dives for what they are. This thing of running at the defender's leg and squealing whilst flourishing an imaginary red card towards the ref in mid air is really starting to grate though. I'd love it, LOVE IT* (©KK*) if they went a step further and dished out a few more bookings 🏝️ 👍

Pepe really, really is the most irritating footballer ever. Spends more time on the floor than he does on his feet. The amount of time he spends rolling on the floor, it's a miracle of modern medicine he's still playing at 38.

Mark 'squealing' it's not, it's open screaming in many cases.

Totally agree a panel to review after games then retrospective punishments.
Be it yellow cards and bans for future matches.

Been banging on about the squealers/cheats, hold-ups for non-injury for a good while. A good tackle is becoming a lost art because of the danger of sending off.
I’m with you 100% DP!

It really needs addressing, when you get ref's telling players to go down it doesn't help, the Evatt Tevez incident springs to mind, where Evatt was fouled & stumbled whilst staying on his feet, giving Tevez half a yard to score, (we should have at least drawn that day) Players trailing their legs & all manner of other cheating technique's they employ. VAR is probably the only way this can be tackled apart from the obvious tap on the elbow & going down holding their heads. As has been said above it can be reviewed after the games as well as during & meaningful punishments subsequently dished out. I hasten to add Blackpool players have been guilty too, I have laughed at a few decisions over the years, without naming the players.

Yep, it`s hurting the game and is very annoying - Bruno Fernandes is my bete noire in this field at the moment. So much talent, so little class on the field.

I enjoy watching good level semi-pro football nowadays (I only started watching through my lad playing), which is closer to the type of football that I, and probably many others on here, played many moons ago. Still physical but basically honest - with nowhere near the level of cheating and feigning of injury we now see in elite football...

The Portugese do seem to have their fair share of the worst offenders. 100% agree with BF, he comes across as an absolute cretin.

I think you will find that 99% of players are guilty and it certainly doesn’t help with pundits failing to be critical no matter how blatant it is. It’s the same with penalties, “he had every right to go down “ seem to be heard quite regularly.

Just turned the Italy game off I can't stand it they are in another's league .Most teams are doing it even poor kick and rush teams like Scotland

The diving was probably worse at international level in the 80s and 90s, if you think back nearly every tackle resulted in somebody rolling half way across the pitch!

The initiative to stop diving must start with team managers. Clearly, they are all condoning it to get their team an advantage. If managers told their players it was dishonest, shameful and “unmanly” (yes, say that) and any player that continued to dive would not be selected to play, it would stop very quickly.

So the football authorities must have a formal initiative with national/club officials and managers. And if their teams are persistent diving offenders then fine the clubs and the managers personally. And let the fines escalate for repeated cheating. And apply pitchside bans for the coaching staff.

It would have to be Europe-wide for it to be fair and effective, so will it happen with UEFA? Little chance, some of their embedded attitudes have forever corrupted fair play in their football culture. Don’t get me started on the South Americans.

I have to say that I stopped watching all football because of this bull shit cheating ( apart from the mighty) it’s completely ruined the once beautiful game( pele).😢

We need to change the language of football. We talk about "winning" a penalty or free kick, you should be awarded a penalty for foul play, you don't win one.
Absolutely agree. It's almost biggied up as being a modern skill. Cheating is cheating and it sticks in my craw when it's legitimised by people who should know better. Not classy at all

I don't think this tournament has been particularly blighted by diving, it might even be slightly in decline.

To be fair its not just the diving, kane rattles his ribs a bit and the phisios come running over holding his head like his neck could be broken calling for the defibrillator just in case with the air ambulance on stand by....... You know what I mean.... My favourite is the pretent communication with the wild jesticulation amoungst team mates, top football is 65% football 20% wwf type thing and15% pamtermine.

Do you like the bit when Pam goes to yours😉!

There seems to be more use of elbows and holding/shirt pulling in this tournament than diving, a lot of stamping on the foot to, I'm surprised that in itself has not caused injuries., but still just as bad. And the more talent a player has the worse he is for cheating, weird.

Maybe they become top players by having that ultra competitive edge, all part of the sport for me, adds a bit of interest.

Welcome to Italian football !
Those jokers think they are the Roman Army ! They probably buy every ref like today’s v Wales - their whole culture is Corruption

About time red cards got dished out, fine, fine, fine and kick them out if they don’t stop it - remember that dive in the first half for a pen today !! The Wales player got told off for discussing the dive by the player - they are great at kneeing you in the back etc in the same move (though they were probably fouled !!)

So the conclusion - take yer trophies and medals and chick Em into the Med for cheating

Sir Brian Miffed, Camberwell

As soon as an opponent simply touches the back of an Italian gently it seems to activate springs in their knees, so that their lower legs jerk upwards and they hit the ground like a sack of spuds. VAR should be reporting simulation, asking the ref to review and hand out a booking for cheating. I don’t care if the first half of games last for 55 minutes if it stopped them.

The Welsh red card was probably fair. It was possibly late unintentionally but it was nasty and could have caused injury deforming his ankle as it did. And looked even worse to the ref when the Italian rolled about screaming.

But the point about talented players being the worst wusses is about “entitlement”. The best play for the big clubs, are paid the most and can be sufficiently arrogant to believe an “inferior” opponent has no right to dispossess them of the ball. Neymar being the archetype.
