Female police officers?

My son is just coming up to the end of his 2nd year in the police, so is technically a probationer.

The fitness levels required to be in the police are ludicrously low.
Just about anyone can compete the bleep test. He did it running backwards because it was so slow.
He's been doing Jujitsu for a number of years and that's more effective than the standard training he has received.

He's 6' 6" fit as a butchers dog, and built. He's lost a bit of speed as he's needed to bulk out a little, but he's still quick.

He's been involved in all sorts of violent incidents. The latest one was chasing a bad guy who jumped on a WPC's stomach full force, so she has to press her emergency button.

He found the bad guy, was chasing him and leaped over a fence which gave way. Carried on chasing him, and unfortunately the bad guy gave himself up and was fully compliant. Meant he couldn't get the treatment he deserved.

15 minutes later all the soft tissue damage started to hurt. Ended up with a moon boot and loads of deep cuts over his arms. He'll live, but seeing his Sergeant coming out of his car (he couldn't drive) with a police van behind initially mate me sick to my stomach; just trying to work out what the hell was going on.

There are people out there who don't give a fuck about whether they are hitting men or women and I think that's changed over the last 30 years. It wasn't the done thing when I was growing up. They don't care now.

And for balance, the job he'd done the night before was escorting the body of a 14 year old boy who'd drowned in a river.

The expectations of the police are exceptionally high, on the whole they do a great job, they aren't perfect, there some who abuse their positions, but I'd like everyone to do a week on shift with them before saying what it should or shouldn't be like.
Exactly

Great post, I’m in awe of your son, I wouldn’t do that job in a million years, I’m just glad like all peaceful, law abiding citizens, that there are people like your son.

He loves the job; we've made sure he looks after his mental health too such as encouraging him to get a membership at a quality spa etc.

He loves his shifts, but he knows the limitations in training, in pursuit of numbers, means there are some fellow officers who won't be able to hold their own in the violent situations; he has fed it all back.

It was interesting when he was in hospital in the latest issue, given the damage done to the WPC all the top brass were there (rightly) and TBF some have been in touch on follow ups; and he says they need more front line, response cops, as for a lot of the time, it's a numbers game.

Whether it has an impact he won't know, but at least he has said it.

There are times in policing where being gentle (like dealing with the OAP with dementia walking her dog in her underwear who was confused and needed his help) is a prerequisite; other times it's alpha male brute force. We need enough across the board to do all of it and do it well.

The only thing about him being in the police is the potential impact of being in the North if it ever gets silly. I'm no grass, but he might have to be!!

I posted this as I thought it was horrible to see a woman assaulted like this, I have 4 sisters and 2 daughters and I would not like to see this happen to them, no woman man bias here, just an old fashioned man who would never put a hand on a woman.

She’s too small . 5ft 2 and describes herself as petite.

Im not saying for a minute she shouldn’t be a police officer but with her height she needs to have elite fighting skills to be on the frontline .

Its a dangerous world with a lot of very unpredictable people about .
The Police in general should have elite fighting skills to combat the scum in modern society!

That video clip was embarrassing beyond belief, if ever a reply to all this DEI nonsense is required just show the video. Don’t like to kick people when they’re down but personally I feel she should be demoted or sent to a back office somewhere.

Are women Police Officers paid the same as the men?
If they are then they should face the same problems as the men.
OK, WPCs in general are not as big/strong etc as men, so should they receive the same pay rates?
Can they face up to hardened, tough men like the male PCs do??
So you'd send a 6'5" bearded man to deal with a rape or child sex abuse victim, would you?

Weird thread this.

There’s more criticism for the woman copper than there is the horrible piece of shit who did it. He actually can fight and is quick and no doubts that shot would have stunned most men…

But let’s all focus on whether women should be coppers rather than the ** who did it.
In boxing they don’t put heavyweights in with flyweights for a reason . It’s dangerous .

Its changed massively. People dont even care even if the police are armed these days.

Do they actually interview/deal with the female victims?
obviously less so with rape victims as its policy to be interviewed by a woman, although sometimes logistics are against that happening. Certainly with abused youngsters both genders of officers actively were involved. You have to remember various 'responsible adults' are present, invariably ladies. The important thing considered is does the victim mind who is interviewing them and secondly who the responsible adult is at ease with.

Women Police Officers ARE paid the same rate, although pension conditions differ slightly

What is missing nowadays is the initial training at DTC's such as Bruche, Dishforth and Cwmbran where fitness was paramount as was the learning of the law.

It was a sad day they decided to close them.
I think a lot of it is backup from the senior officers.

We had a case recently down in Dorset (?) where an officer was sacked for not nicking a knife wielding (black) suspect with sufficient "respect", others sacked for what look like reasonable mistakes, because they resulted in harm to someone with "protected characteristics", armed police officers turning in their cards because officers are being prosecuted for using them against suspects with the same characteristics, and even when acquitted they're still persecuted by "internal discipline", I could go on.

It's no wonder they've so much time to spend on policing Twitter, it's the only thing they can do with confidence without losing their job.

Well said LS

A rape victim (16) opened up to my son, who is 6' 6" with a beard.

Obviously dealt with the initial bit, then it gets taken over by the specialist units.

A lot depends on the attitude and building a relationship; which is where those who abuse their power can cause huge amounts of harm.
