Finland, Sweden and Nato

As we know they want to join Nato, but President Erdogan of Turkey has said he will veto their applications. Who draws up these rules that allows one nation out of 30 to decide whether a country can join or not?

You would have thought that if not a majority, it would have been two thirds or something like that.

Is he just trying to negotiate and will approve in the end, or is this actually the end of their desire to join?

He has a valid reason though wether you believe him or not is a different story.

Agree 100% however one vote against or to veto it should not make a difference.

He's a lot nearer to Russia than us, so probably getting pressure from that quarter.

It would be better if all countries were in NATO & if any one became an aggressor then the might of the rest would come down on them. Of course it would never work, as we can't even agree with our allies, let alone some of the dodgy countries.

The Russia/Ukraine war gets really twisted when it comes to Turkey. On one hand, the Turks have close ties with Russia due to Russian involvement in Syria and Turkey wanting to keep Kurds away from their Syrian border but on the other hand Erdogan has family ties to a Turkish drone company which is selling killing drones to Ukraine that are destoying Russians.

Exactly.

Almost as stupid as the UN Security Council trying to pass a resolution to condemn Russia's invasion of Ukraine but having it vetoed by Russia.

Should be a 2/3rds majority.
Why not kick Turkey out? 2/3rds majority. 😉
As I wrote earlier Dave….

“If he didn’t (or any country) have the right to Veto, it would effectively allow a countries troops to be committed to defend a country you don’t want to.”

…would you agree to UK troops being deployed to a country that the UK didn’t want to join NATO?

Geopolitically this is a smart move by Erdogan. It leaves him room to manoeuvre on both fronts.

Finland are sorted for a nuclear war. They can have most of their population living underground for months if they come under attack from Vlad.

"There are 5,500 bunkers in Helsinki alone , creating a vast network of underground facilities that have been built since the 1980s."

Then come back out to what?

It’s another reason for Vlad not to invade Finland. It doesn’t have to be nuclear.

They don’t have the same in Russia so they would be f@cked if they went that route as NATO would destroy Moscow 💣
Along with every other major Russian and Chinese city. Russian missiles would also destroy all American major cities, all of the UK and all of France.
Out of sheer panic, China would destroy Japan and all Australian settlements. Israel would take the opportunity to destroy Egypt and Iran. India and Pakistan would blow each other to bits, whilst North Korea would destroy the South.

The northern hemisphere would go into a nuclear winter, through which only a few species of fish and insects would survive.
The Southern hemisphere would face years of crop failure, sown by the remaining few of the human species, causing a likely mass extinction of the remains of humanity.

Yes that's why it won't happen.

So what you're saying is that a cardboard box in the living room won't work?
