Fleetwood Rivalry

Is the rivalry gathering pace?
IMO It is a derby based on the definition, yes they are tinpot and have no history but are people beginning to feel more like it is not just another game now?

To me it will never rival the games v the knobbers and Bolton but I am starting to feel like it it has gained more importance to beat them.

Social media has mixed messages, “couldn’t give a fuck about them” and in the same breath “can you get me a ticket”.

I wouldn't say it is gathering pace, no.

They haven't played Lancaster City in ages.

Of course it is. People may not like it to be but it is.
You only have to look at the home game this season and the reaction to beating the cods to determine that. The coda are getting to big for their boots but we will beat them at their poxy ground. Agree not in the same league as prescum though.

See it threw the Cods eyes as a new FL side they need a rival and seeing as we are are in the same league and a few miles up the road they absolutely hate us and I've no issue with that.

The feeling is now mutual and doing the double on them will be one of the highlights on the pitch this season if it comes off.

agree 👍

BRR said they are back in their box yesterday so you must be mistaken! Time moves on as do traditional rivalries, even for the clubs who are perceived glamour opponents 😀

A lot of our lot can’t/won’t except it outwardly but they are irrespective of the fact they only have one man and his dog watching them

So Athers, say they go up, would you not be arsed that the tin pot fuckers are in a league above us and you would treat it the same way as say Ipswich getting promoted?

I think some people have a kind of social guilt complex about them, particularly those who have preached about community values and links to the local club.
Must be awkward too returning home and finding your family and old friends enjoying watching the local side, and seeing a picture of Joey Barton sat over the fireplace.

Didn't someone say that apart from the Southend comeback game, our last 2 biggest home followings have both been against Fleetwood.
Which just goes to prove the appeal it has for most people. A lot more than Rochdale & Accrington anyway.
Instead of all this bigger than you snobbery, just embrace the fact we have another derby game on the fixture list. 👍

There is no history between us though. We have played them a handful of times competitively. Maybe if we keep playing the frequently for another 10 or 20 years it will be a proper derby, but as it stands it is just a local game against a league rival. Preston is our derby game. Always has been always will be. Bolton are another club we have a history with. Then you have Burnley. This is all of course in my humble opinion.

As for the last time we played Fleetwood and beat them I was more happy than Normal, but only because of Barton's shitty comments pre match

nah I’ve lost that Burnley one mate and never really had it. For me it’s; knobbers, Bolton and now the cods (in that order)

I agree that the Burnley rivalry had faded some what. Each to their own, but I really have no ill feeling towards the cods at all. I actually admire what Pilley has done at what is essentially a non league club punching above their weight. Fair play to em.

I class playing Fleetwood as a little derby game. Vs Preston is the BIG derby match for Pool.

I'm not too bothered if we lose to Fleetwood. Winning or losing against Preston is a totally different matter.

Exactly. Losing to Fleetwood is an embarrassing inconvenience. Losing to Preston ruins my month, let alone weekend

Yes Gaz your first paragraph nails it .
Don’t agree with if we lose to the cods I’m not bothered - I’m bothered about every game we lose tbh

I think it's a bigger game for the teenage crowd that have started attending after the boycott, they're yet to experience the big one yet and might be waiting a while so they fill the gap with Fleetwood.

I have to say though, I walked out into the North Stand against Fleetwood this season about 5 minutes before kick off and the atmosphere was absolutely electric, definitely felt like a derby at that moment and went up a little bit in my estimation.

Not arsed about them. Bolton a much bigger game for me. Must win

Got to agree there, I always put Bolton behind Preston as our biggest rivals. I remember seeing a thread on twitter where people were ranking their top 5 rivalries and I was surprised to see how low a lot of people rank Bolton, considering the history I thought everyone would have 'em up there.

Of course TP - horwich number 2 on my list but tbh cods slowly creeping up it 👊

They are just an irritation. What annoys me is that they are doing so well this season and the Oyston's can say 'they never finished above us on our watch' - not the sort of thing Sadler wants to be remembered for!

Spot on. 👍
The youth look forward to this game far more than the older generation who hold onto their traditional derby memories.
The last 2 games we've played them at home, the youth have really built it up on their social media, and not been disappointed.
Pitch invasions, smoke bombs, firebombs, last minute goals, much bigger home crowds and great atmosphere.
What's not to like?

They finished a division higher than us under the O's!
That season the claim they arent rivals by some posters on here was spot on.
Same people who dismissed Ian Holloway as a grinning baboon but thankfully they arent in charge of England cricket team selection.

As time progresses and if they stay at this level it will become a similar Derby to Prescum

My lad who is 7 has never seen us play prescum but he's been to two home games against fleetwood and seen the rivalry..

3,000 crowds won’t sustain championship football. Simple as that. Good luck to them though. Living the dream

Why won't it??

You can factually play in an empty stadium every week and be in any league so long as you have a benevolent owner. In modern football attendances mean FA if there is a good owner.

Regardless - Fleetwood get more than 3000 don't they?

No. Average just over 2000. 3300 today with about a 1000 Portsmouth

No you can't. FFP means you can't just pump money in. Ask a City fan.

Point is that the TV money,PL consolidation payments,FFP money within limits and a budgeted but well planned transfer policy can keep a team at the top end of L1.

Let's be honest it served the Seasiders well just before the grinning baboon arrived.

When Fleetwood get promoted, could they can hire Bloomfield Rd? One hand washing the other as Pool would benefit partially from gate takings. Something to ponder over when you think about it even if Fleetwood pull a 8-10,000 crowd.

Can’t see that happening somehow, Andy would rather build a new stadium

That would never happen in a million years!
Don't think it would even be allowed would it by the EFL?
I can just imagine the Fleetwood diehards being told they have to go to Blackpool every other week. The crowds would go down not up.

They're 6 miles away, they're in the same Division. If that's not a derby, what is?

All this Fylde Coast football as if we're all one big happy family is deluded nonsense. If they're so happy about it, how come it kicks off at every game.

Then there's Joey Barton...

They struggled to get 1300 when they came for a League game despite being offered 2500 tickets.

Exactly Wiz that’s what I’m saying it’s gathering momentum

Financial fair play. Crowds go a lot way to paying players wages

Very impressive how they’ve come up the leagues, built a nice ground, nice training complex etc. But with the crowds they attract I just don’t see how sustainable long term it can be.....

Have zero interest in them and treat them as any other league team whereas I hope we beat them and they don't get promoted. No rivalry here for me.

Got to laugh how people pretend they have no interest in Fleetwood.
Can you explain why the home following spikes considerably when we play against them?
Not to mention, the pitch invasions etc.
I guarantee now, that there will be many more threads and posts about the Fleetwood game, than the Bolton game.
But we don't care about 'em. Yeah right on. LOL

Someone should tell Bournemouth then as they can only get 10000 in their ground.
Or are their players on less than Blackpool's were when we were in the premier league.

BTW Fleetwood are, at the moment, one of those itches that you just can't seem to be able to scratch.
For me Knobbers, BW and the dingles are the derbies for Blackpool.
Can understand the yoof bit though.

Last time I looked, Premier League teams get a few more quid off the telly than League One or even Championship. Gates are irrelevant in the Prem but not elsewhere
